HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resignation, and retirement of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:-
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY
Regular Force—
Lieutenant and Quartermaster J. G. Gilberd to be temp. Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 15th December, 1948.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMOURED CORPS
Territorial Force—
1st Divisional Regiment, R.N.Z.A.C. (New Zealand Scottish)—
Major-General Sir Norman W. McD. Weir, K.B.E., C.B., Generals’ List, is appointed Colonel of the Regiment. Dated 1st April, 1949.
THE ROYAL N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS
Regular Force—
Lieutenant and Quartermaster R. W. Robinson to be Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 30th March, 1949.
THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS
Territorial Force—
The North Auckland Regiment—
Leo Desmond Pointon to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to the Kaitaia District High School Cadets, Area 3. Dated 1st January, 1949.
The Wellington West Coast and Taranaki Regiment—
Lieutenant D. H. Thurston, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be temp. Lieutenant, with seniority from 2nd November, 1946, and is seconded to the Hawera Technical High School Cadets, Area 8. Dated 1st February, 1949.
Lieutenant C. M. Douglas, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be temp. Lieutenant, with seniority from 16th January, 1948, and is seconded to the Hawera Technical High School Cadets, Area 8. Dated 1st February, 1949.
2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) R. W. Russell ceases to be seconded to the Hawera Technical High School Cadets and resigns his commission. Dated 28th March, 1949.
The Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment—
Gordon Francis Doole to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to the Marlborough College Cadets, Area 9. Dated 1st February, 1949.
Cedric Theodore Irvine to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to the Motueka District High School Cadets, Area 9. Dated 1st February, 1949.
The Canterbury Regiment—
Terence Patrick Moloney to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to St. Bede’s College Cadets, Area 10. Dated 1st March, 1949.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERS
Regular Force—
Captain and Quartermaster C. E. Slade-Jones, having reached the normal age for retirement, is transferred to the Supernumerary List, N.Z. Regular Force, with his present rank and seniority. Dated 31st January, 1949.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMY DENTAL CORPS
Regular Force—
Lieutenant-Colonel (temp. Colonel) B. S. Finn, C.B.E., D.S.O., E.D., K.H.D.S., relinquishes the appointment of Director of Dental Services (Navy, Army, and Air). Dated 31st March, 1949.
Major W. MacD. Ford, B.D.S., to be temp. Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 1st April, 1949.
Territorial Force—
Lieutenant-Colonel J. F. Fuller, O.B.E., B.D.S., from the Retired List, to be Colonel, and is appointed Director of Dental Services (Navy, Army, and Air) on a part-time basis. Dated 1st April, 1949.
THE ROYAL N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT
Territorial Force—
The Rev. T. M. C. Hay, Chaplain, 4th Class (Presbyterian) is transferred to the Reserve List, Class I, Area 11. Dated 28th March, 1949.
N.Z. ARMY NURSING SERVICE
Regular Force—
Charge Sister P. I. Johnston is granted a further extension of her short-service commission to 31st December, 1949.
RESERVE OF OFFICERS
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own)—
Lieutenant A. C. Hipwell is posted to the Retired List. Dated 30th March, 1949.
OFFICER CEASING TO BE SECONDED TO THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
Captain W. A. Simpson, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 12th December, 1944. Dated 13th January, 1949.
OFFICERS STRUCK OFF THE STRENGTH OF THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
Captain H. Bleasdale, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 29th March, 1949.
