HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, relinquishment of commission, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces :—

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY

Regular Force—

Lieutenant and Quartermaster A. J. Holland to be Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 26th January, 1949.

THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS

Regular Force—

N.Z. Regiment—

Major N. B. Cowper, to be temp. Lieutenant-Colonel, and is appointed Area Commander, Area 5, Wellington. Dated 7th February, 1949.

Territorial Force—

The Wellington Regiment (City of Wellington’s Own)—

Captain J. T. McCaw, E.D., to be temp. Major, and remains seconded to Rongotai College Cadets. Dated 18th January, 1949.

Temp. Lieutenant L. S. Hart to be temp. Captain, and remains seconded to Scots College Cadets. Dated 18th January, 1949.

The Hawkes Bay Regiment—

Michael Vernon Rout, B.Sc., B.E. (late Lieutenant, R.N.Z.N.V.R.), to be temp. Lieutenant, and is seconded to the Napier Boys’ High School Cadets, Area 7. Dated 1st August, 1948.

The Nelson, Marlborough, and West Coast Regiment—

Temp. Captain William Henderson Bryant, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List (Home Guard), to be temp. Lieutenant, and is seconded to the Motueka District High School Cadets, Area 9. Dated 18th June, 1948.

The Otago and Southland Regiment—

Lieutenant A. R. Dreaver to be temp. Captain, and remains seconded to the South Otago High School Cadets. Dated 25th November, 1948.

Roy Forrester Young to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to the Waitaki Boys’ High School Cadets, Area 11. Dated 18th November, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMY MEDICAL CORPS

Regular Force—

Charles Rice to be temp. Lieutenant (on prob.) and is posted for duty to Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 10th February, 1949.

THE ROYAL N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT

Territorial Force—

The Rev. J. W. McKenzie, C.B.E., M.M., E.D., Chaplain, 2nd Class (temp. Chaplain, 1st Class) (Presbyterian), Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, is appointed Chaplain Commandant, The Royal N.Z. Chaplains Department. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. E. B. Moore, Chaplain, 3rd Class (temp. Chaplain, 2nd Class) (Church of England), to be Chaplain, 2nd Class, with seniority from 3rd March, 1942. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. G. H. Schurr, Chaplain, 3rd Class (Church of England), to be Chaplain, 2nd Class, with seniority from 20th October, 1945, and is transferred to the Reserve List, Class I, Area 9. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. L. C. Horwood, Chaplain, 4th Class (Methodist), Area 10, to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 20th August, 1944, and is transferred to the Reserve List, Class I. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. J. C. Draper, Chaplain, 4th Class (temp. Chaplain, 3rd Class) (Methodist), Area 1, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 13th February, 1945. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. W. R. Francis, Chaplain, 3rd Class (Methodist), Area 7, from the Retired List, to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 10th June, 1945. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. W. W. H. Greenslade, Chaplain, 4th Class (Methodist), Area 5, to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 12th February, 1946. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. R. H. Dalby, Chaplain, 4th Class (Church of England), to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 29th August, 1946, and is transferred to the Reserve List, Class I, Area 9. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. G. R. Thompson, Chaplain, 4th Class (Methodist), Area 2, from the Reserve List, Class II, to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 15th December, 1946. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Ven. Archd. A. K. Warren, M.C., Chaplain, 4th Class (Church of England), from the Retired List, to be temp. Chaplain, 3rd Class, Area 10, with seniority from 1st December, 1948. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. L. N. Watkins, Chaplain, 4th Class (Church of England), to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 19th December, 1948, and is transferred to the Reserve List, Class I, Area 8. Dated 31st December, 1948.

The Rev. D. V. de Candole, Chaplain, 4th Class (temp. Chaplain, 3rd Class) (Church of England), is transferred to the Reserve List, Class I, Area 8, with the rank of Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 21st July, 1945. Dated 28th March, 1946.

The Rev. A. R. Witheford, Chaplain, 4th Class (Methodist), Area 10, from the Reserve List, Class I, to be Chaplain 4th Class, with seniority from 20th April, 1942. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. A. T. Kent, Chaplain, 4th Class (Methodist), Area 4, from the Reserve List, Class I, to be Chaplain, 4th Class, with seniority from 5th June, 1942. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. J. K. Watson, M.C., Chaplain, 4th Class (Methodist), Area 10, from the Reserve List, Class I, to be Chaplain, 4th Class, with seniority from 18th July, 1943. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. D. R. Allen, Chaplain, 4th Class (Presbyterian), from the Retired List, to be Chaplain, 4th Class, with seniority from 26th January, 1947, and is transferred to the Reserve List, Class II, Area 1. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. W. S. Dawson, Chaplain, 4th Class (Methodist), Area 5, from the Reserve List, Class I, to be Chaplain, 4th Class, with seniority from 12th May, 1947. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The Rev. J. A. F. Watson, Chaplain, 4th Class (Presbyterian), relinquishes his commission. Dated 1st December, 1948.

The undermentioned Chaplains, 4th Class (Methodist), are transferred to the Reserve List, Class I :—

N.Z. ARMY NURSING SERVICE

Regular Force—

Charge Sister (temp. Matron) S. E. G. Sherrard, A.R.R.C., is granted an extension of her short-service commission for a period of one year as from 1st April, 1949.

Matron C. McDonald, A.R.R.C., is granted a short-service commission for a period of two years as from 2nd January, 1949, in the rank of Matron, with seniority from 31st December, 1948, and is seconded for duty at the Royal N.Z. Naval Base Hospital, Devonport. Dated 2nd January, 1949.

Charge Sister L. E. Souness is granted an extension of her short-service commission for a period of one year as from 1st April, 1949.

Charge Sister P. M. Aitcheson is granted a short-service commission for a period of one year as from 7th January, 1949, in the rank of Charge Sister, with seniority from 7th January, 1949, and is posted for duty to Cadet Camp, Linton. Dated 7th January, 1949.

N.Z. WOMEN’S ARMY AUXILIARY CORPS

Regular Force—

Lieutenant C. J. Webb, from the Retired List, to be temp. Captain (on prob.). Dated 31st January, 1949.

RESERVE OF OFFICERS

Major J. A. McDonald, E.D. (late The Waikato Regiment), is posted to the Retired List. Dated 16th February, 1949.

OFFICERS CEASING TO BE SECONDED TO THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Major P. W. F. Joplin, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 12th December, 1944. Dated 13th January, 1949.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 23, dated 11th April, 1946, relative to the Rev. D. V. de Candole, is hereby cancelled and the following substituted :—

“The Rev. D. V. de Candole, Chaplain, 3rd Class (Church of England), Royal N.Z. Chaplains Department, and is reposted to the Territorial Force with the temporary rank of Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 21st July, 1945. Dated 28th March, 1946.”

Matron C. McDonald, A.R.R.C., and is posted to the N.Z. Regular Force. Dated 1st January, 1949.

Charge Sister P. M. Aitcheson, N.Z. Army Nursing Service, and is posted to the N.Z. Regular Force. Dated 6th January, 1949.

OFFICERS STRUCK OFF THE STRENGTH OF THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Major R. H. Kerr, and is posted to the Retired List. Dated 12th February, 1949.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 67, dated 23rd December, 1948, relative to Captain M. T. Dempsey, for “Dated 9th December, 1948,” substitute “Dated 23rd November, 1948.”

Captain E. McG. Murray, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 9th February, 1949.

Captain G. J. H. Atkinson, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 10th February, 1949.

Captain L. A. Gatfield, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 11th February, 1949.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 4, dated 27th January, 1949, relative to Lieutenant B. A. Packer, for “Dated 15th December, 1949,” substitute “Dated 15th November, 1949.”
