Appointments, Promotions, Resignation, and Retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Military Forces

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY

Regular Force—
Lieutenant and Quartermaster J. R. Spence, M.B.E., to be Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 12th December, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMOURED CORPS

Regular Force—
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) R. N. Griggs relinquishes the appointment of Staff Captain, Military Secretary's Section, Army Headquarters, Wellington, dated 24th November, 1948, proceeds to the United Kingdom to undergo a course at the Staff College, Camberley, and retains the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 25th November, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS

Regular Force—
N.Z. Regiment—
Lieutenant and Quartermaster D. M. Sweeney to be temp. Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 17th September, 1948.
Territorial Force—
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own)—
Colin Sutton Atkinson to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.), and is seconded to the Pukekohe Technical High School Cadets, Area 1. Dated 1st May, 1948.
2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) J. A. Asher ceases to be seconded to the Mount Albert Grammar School Cadets, Area 1, and resigns his commission. Dated 18th November, 1948.
The Hauraki Regiment—
Temp. Captain T. R. C. Muir to be temp. Major and remains seconded to the Tauranga College Cadets. Dated 24th June, 1948.
The Canterbury Regiment—
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) E. J. Wood, E.D., to be temp. Major, and remains seconded to the Ashburton High School Cadets. Dated 25th August, 1948.
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 56, dated 28th October, 1948, relative to the promotion of 2nd Lieutenant M. H. Biggs, for "Dated 18th May, 1948", substitute "Dated 18th May, 1947."
The Otago and Southland Regiment—
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be temp. Lieutenants and remain seconded to the Gore High School Cadets :—
B. F. Ferrand. Dated 17th April, 1948.
N. T. Hamilton. Dated 18th April, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMY MEDICAL CORPS

Territorial Force—
Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) A. B. Jameson, E.D., M.B., Ch.B., is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 3rd November, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT

Territorial Force—
The Rev. N. E. Winhall, M.B.E., Chaplain, 4th Class (temp. Chaplain, 3rd Class), Church of England, to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 9th November, 1942, is appointed Senior Chaplain to the Forces, Church of England, and is granted the temporary rank of Chaplain, 2nd Class. Dated 1st February, 1946.
The Rev. V. R. Jamieson, M.B.E., Chaplain, 4th Class (temp. Chaplain, 3rd Class), Methodist, to be Chaplain, 3rd Class, with seniority from 5th July, 1942, is appointed Senior Chaplain to the Forces, Methodist, and is granted the temporary rank of Chaplain, 2nd Class. Dated 1st February, 1947.
The Rev. G. A. D. Spence, O.B.E., M.C., Chaplain, 4th Class (temp. Chaplain, 2nd Class), Presbyterian, to be Chaplain, 2nd Class, with seniority from 30th April, 1944, and is appointed Senior Chaplain to the Forces, Presbyterian. Dated 1st May, 1948.

SUPERNUMERARY LIST, N.Z. REGULAR FORCE
Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) F. G. M. Jenkins, D.C.M., is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 27th November, 1948.

RESERVE OF OFFICERS
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly's Own)—
Captain W. W. Horwell, M.M., E.D., is posted to the Retired List. Dated 29th November, 1948.

OFFICERS CEASING TO BE SECONDED TO THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
Lieutenant-Colonel A. B. Jameson, E.D., M.B., Ch.B., The Royal N.Z. Army Medical Corps, and is reposted to the Territorial Force with the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, with seniority from 15th July, 1948. Dated 3rd November, 1948.
Captain I. J. Hellyer, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 12th December, 1944. Dated 19th November, 1948.
Lieutenant G. R. Tomline, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 9th December, 1947. Dated 12th October, 1948.

OFFICERS STRUCK OFF THE STRENGTH OF THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Major R. G. Foulkes, M.C., and is posted to the Retired List. Dated 3rd November, 1948.
Major K. R. Mosheim, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 25th November, 1948.
Major M. Pirritt, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 28th November, 1948.
Major A. B. H. Naughton, M.M., and is posted to the non-mobilized strength of the 1st Battalion, The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), with the temporary rank of Major, with seniority from 15th July, 1948. Dated 29th November, 1948.
Captain R. W. Vette, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 6th November, 1948.
Captain M. J. Philpott, and is posted to the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List. Dated 18th November, 1948.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section nine of the Government Railways Amendment Act, 1927, I, Robert Semple, Minister of Railways, do hereby appoint as a member of the Government Railways Appeal Board Edwin William Barnes, a member of the Railways Department at Wellington, to hold office for a term of six months from and including the 1st day of January, 1949.
