Officer Authorized to Attest Signatures of Maoris to Instruments of Alienation

PURSUANT to section two hundred and sixty-eight of the Maori Land Act, 1931, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that

William James Romminger, Field Supervisor, Levin, being an officer in the service of the Crown, is authorized to attest, in accordance with the provisions of the said section two hundred and sixty-eight, the signatures of Maoris to instruments of alienation of Maori land.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 11th day of October, 1948.

Relinquishment of Temporary Rank of Officers of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force (Japan Section)

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to confirm the following relinquishments of temporary rank of officers of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force (Japan Section), vide List No. 104, dated 21st September, 1948:—

TEMPORARY RANK RELINQUISHED

2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) W. A. Murdoch, R.N.Z.E., relinquishes the temporary rank of Lieutenant on being placed on N.Z. Roll. Dated 23rd October, 1948.

2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) N. G. Gilbert, R.N.Z.A.M.C., relinquishes the temporary rank of Lieutenant and assumes the acting rank of Lieutenant on being placed on N.Z. Roll. Dated 23rd October, 1948.

Lieutenant and Quartermaster (temp. Captain and Quartermaster) A. J. Holland relinquishes the temporary rank of Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 15th August, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS

Territorial Force—

The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own)—

Captain (temp. Major) W. R. H. Martin ceases to be seconded to the Avondale College Cadets, Area 1, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 1, with the rank of Major, with seniority from 10th June, 1946. Dated 21st September, 1948.

The Wellington West Coast Regiment—

2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) T. G. McCullough ceases to be seconded to the Ohakune District High School Cadets, Area 6, and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b), Area 6, with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 6th September, 1945. Dated 23rd September, 1948.

The Taranaki Regiment—

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) H. C. Johnson, E.D., to be temp. Major, and remains seconded to the Stratford Technical High School Cadets, Area 8. Dated 1st July, 1948.

Hon. Lieutenant (Bandmaster) A. S. Ramsay is posted to the Retired List. Dated 20th September, 1948.

The Canterbury Regiment—

Captain (temp. Major) E. W. A. Espiner ceases to be seconded to the Christchurch West High School Cadets, Area 10, and is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Major. Dated 20th September, 1948.

2nd Lieutenant I. R. McLean to be temp. Lieutenant, and remains seconded to the Ashburton Technical High School Cadets, Area 10. Dated 5th April, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERS

Regular Force—

Lieutenant and Quartermaster H. J. Macdonald is posted to the Retired List. Dated 5th October, 1948.

N.Z. ARMY NURSING SERVICE

Regular Force—

Charge Sister (temp. Matron) S. E. G. Sherrard, A.R.R.C., is granted a short-service commission for a period of one year as from 1st April, 1948, in the rank of Charge Sister, with seniority from 1st May, 1942, is granted the temporary rank of Matron, with seniority from 3rd November, 1947, and remains seconded to the Royal N.Z. Air Force. Dated 1st April, 1948.
