Declaring Lands in the Otago Land District to be subject to the Provisions of Section 23 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Act, 1939

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS by section twenty-three of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Act, 1939, it is enacted that the Governor-General may by Proclamation declare any lands of the Crown to be subject to the provisions of that section to enable certain readjustments of leases and licences to be carried into effect:
And whereas it is deemed expedient that the lands described in the Schedule hereto should be subject to the provisions of the said section:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities so conferred upon me by subsection one of the aforesaid section twenty-three, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare, that from and after the date of gazetting hereof, the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be subject to the provisions of the said section twenty-three of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Act, 1939.

Constituting the Taieri Ridge Rabbit District.—(Notice No. Ag. 4546)

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington, this 15th day of September, 1948
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section thirty of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, it is enacted that the Governor-General may, by Order in Council, on petition in that behalf signed by a majority of the persons qualified to be enrolled on the ratepayers' list for any proposed district, constitute and declare any area of land of not less than one thousand acres a rabbit district under and for the purposes of Part II of the said Act:
And whereas, in pursuance of the provisions of the said section thirty of the said Act, a petition has been received praying that the area of land described in the Schedule hereto be constituted and declared a rabbit district under and for the purposes of Part II of the said Act:
And whereas the said petition is signed by a majority of the persons in the said area of land qualified to be enrolled on the ratepayers' list for the said proposed district, and it is deemed expedient to give effect to the prayer of the petitioners accordingly:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by the said Act, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby constitute by the specific name of the “Taieri Ridge Rabbit District” and declare that area of land defined in the Schedule hereto to be a rabbit district under and for the purpose of Part II of the said Act; and doth hereby further declare that the basis on which the Board to be established for the said district shall first levy its general rate shall be on the basis of the acreage of the rateable property in the said district.
SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF THE TAIERI RIDGE RABBIT DISTRICT
ALL that area in the Otago Land District, containing 53,018 acres, more or less, being a part of Rock and Pillar, Highlay, and Strath-Taieri District, bounded as follows: Commencing at the north-western corner of Section 16, Block III, Rock and Pillar District; thence along the north-western boundary of said Section 16 and the northern boundaries of Section 3, Block IV, Rock and Pillar District, and Section 2, Block IV, Highlay District, to the north-eastern corner of said Section 2; thence south-westerly and south-easterly along the public road forming generally the eastern boundaries of Section 1 and 2, Block V, Highlay District, to Section 10, Block XII, Rock and Pillar District; thence south-westerly along the western side of the public road intersecting said Section 10 to the main Hyde to Macrae's public road, across the said road; thence south-westerly along the western side of the public road forming generally the eastern boundary of Section 12, Block XII, Rock and Pillar District, to the southern boundary of said Section 12; thence westerly along the southern boundary of said Section 12 to the south-western corner of said Section 12; thence southerly along the eastern boundary of Section 7, Block XI, Rock and Pillar District, across a public road; thence southerly along the eastern boundary of Section 2, Block III, Strath-Taieri District, to the south-eastern corner of said Section 2; thence south-westerly along the western side of the public road intersecting Section 1, Block III, Strath-Taieri District, to the south-eastern corner of said Section 1; thence south-westerly along the public road forming the eastern boundary of Section 2, Block VI, Strath-Taieri District, across the said road to the north-eastern corner of Section 1, Block VI, Strath-Taieri District; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of said Section 1 to the south-eastern corner of said Section 1; thence westerly along the southern boundary of said Section 1 to the north-eastern corner of Section 15, Block X, Strath-Taieri District; thence southerly along the eastern boundaries of said Section 15 and Section 14, Block X, Strath-Taieri District, across a public road; thence easterly along the northern boundary of Section 2, Block XI, Strath-Taieri District, to the north-eastern corner of said Section 2; thence south-easterly along the eastern boundaries of said Section 2 and Section 3, Block XIII, Strath-Taieri District, to the eastern corner of said Section 3; thence generally in a westerly direction along the south-eastern boundary of said Section 3 to the south-western corner of said Section 3; thence northerly along the western boundaries of said Section 3 and Sections 7 and 2, Block XI, Strath-Taieri District, to the north-western corner of said Section 2; thence westerly along the public road forming the southern boundaries of Sections 14, 15, 21, 24, 23, and 12, Block X, Strath-Taieri District, to the Taieri River; thence generally in a northerly direction along the western boundaries of said Section 12 and Section 25, Block X, Strath-Taieri District, to the north-western corner of said Section 25; thence easterly along the northern boundary of said Section 25 to and north-easterly along the north-western boundary of said Section 12 to its northern corner; thence easterly along the northern boundary of said Section 12 to its north-eastern corner; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundary of said Section 23 to Section 15, Block X, Strath-Taieri District; thence north-westerly along the south-western boundary of said Section 15 to a public road; thence generally in a northerly direction along the western boundary of said Section 15 to the north-western corner of said Section 15; thence generally north-easterly along the left hand bank of the Taieri River to the point of commencement.
