THE following notices, received by the Minister of Finance from the Mayor of the Borough of Geraldine, are published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the Borough of Geraldine, taken on the 30th day of June, 1948, on the proposal of the Geraldine Borough Council to borrow the sum of £3,800 for concrete kerbing and channelling in certain streets—
Votes.
The number of votes for the proposal was .. 128
The number of votes against the proposal was .. 49
The number of informal votes was .. 1
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

The Survey Board of New Zealand,

IT is hereby notified for general information that the Survey Board, in conjunction with the Australian Surveyors' Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates for registration as surveyors, commencing at 10 a.m. on Monday, 30th August, 1948, at Wellington.
Candidates are notified that their applications, on the proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later than Monday, 16th August, 1948, and that the examination fee must be paid at the same time to the Secretary, from whom application forms and other particulars may be obtained.
Candidates may present themselves for examination in the following written subjects :—
After one year's service—
(1) Physics, geology, and forestry.
(2) Plotting and plan drawing.
(3) Computations A.
After two years' service—
(4) Computations B.
(5) Engineering surveying.
(6) Town-planning.
After three years' service—
(7) Laws and regulations.
(8) Astronomy and geodesy.
(9) Land-surveying design.
(10) Preparation of field notes.
(11) Land classification and valuation.
Candidates presenting themselves for examination in any written subject or subjects may present themselves for examination at any Chief Surveyor's Office.
The oral and practical portion of the examination cannot be taken until the candidate's term of indentureship has been completed.
Candidates for the oral and practical portion of the examination must sit in Wellington. Plans for this portion of the examination, the certificate, and other evidence required by Regulation No. 31 of the Survey Examination Regulations 1943, must be forwarded with the application to sit.

By-laws regulating Traffic on the Island Stream Bridge, Maheno, on the Timaru-Dunedin State Highway
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Main Highways Act, 1922, and by section 155 of the Public Works Act, 1928, the Main Highways Board doth hereby make the following by-law in respect of the above-mentioned bridge, and doth hereby declare that the said by-law shall come into force on the 15th day of June, 1948.
BY-LAW
-
THAT the Main Highways Board hereby gives notice that no persons shall drive or take or permit to be driven or taken any vehicle upon or over the Island Stream Bridge at Maheno on the Timaru-Dunedin State Highway at a greater speed than fifteen miles per hour or if the gross weight of the vehicle is in excess of 10 tons.

(a) No person shall drive or cause or permit to be driven or allow any cattle in excess of forty at any given time to pass along or over the above-mentioned bridge.
(b) Cattle includes any bull, cow, ox, steer, heifer, or calf. -
(a) Every person who does or causes or procures to be done anything contrary to the terms of this by-law shall be guilty of an offence.
(b) Every person guilty of an offence against this by-law shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five pounds (£5) for each such offence.
The foregoing by-laws were made by a resolution duly passed at a meeting of the Main Highways Board held at Wellington on 15th June, 1948.

Position : Fixed red light on end of Gladstone Wharf. Lat., 43° 36′6 S.; long., 172° 43' E. (approx.).
Position of Berthing Lights.—109° distant 460 ft. from the above light.
Details : Two blue lights vertically disposed at heights of 22 ft. and 25 ft., visible seaward for a distance of two miles (approx.), have been established for the purpose of facilitating berthing of the Inter-Island Express Steamers.
