Setting apart Land owned by a Maori as a Maori Reservation

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 12th day of May, 1948

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. P. FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to section five of the Maori Purposes Act, 1937, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby set apart and reserve the land described in the Schedule hereto, being land owned by a Maori, as a Maori reservation for the common use of the Ngati Panga hapu of the Tuhoe Tribe as a burial-ground.

SCHEDULE

All that piece of land containing 1 acre 3 roods 10 perches, more or less, known as Allotment 11g, Parish of Waiotahi, being the whole of the land comprised in Certificate of Title, Volume 83, folio 283 (Gisborne Registry).

PURSUANT to section five of the Maori Purposes Act, 1937, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby set apart and reserve the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule hereto as a Maori reservation for the common use of the members of the Ngatiuenuku Sub-tribe of the Whanganui Tribe as a marae and meeting-place.

THE RIGHT HON. P. FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to subsection two of section five and to section six of the Maori Purposes Act, 1937, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby include the land described in the Schedule hereto, being land owned by Maoris, in the Manukorihi Pa, constituted as a Maori reservation under section one hundred and three of the Maori Purposes Act, 1931.

SCHEDULE

All that area of land situated in Block I, Waitara Survey District, being the Manukorihi 3A, 3B, 4–16, and 20 Blocks, together containing an area of 17 acres 1 rood 26·2 perches, more or less, and being the whole of the land comprised and described in Certificate of Title, Volume 153, folio 150 (Taranaki Registry).

Officer authorized to attest Signatures of Maoris to Instruments under the Chattels Transfer Act, 1924

PURSUANT to section five hundred and forty-seven of the Maori Land Act, 1931, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that

John Miller Cram, Field Supervisor, Tauranga,

being an officer in the service of the Crown, is authorized to attest, in accordance with the provisions of the said section five hundred and forty-seven, the signatures of Maoris to instruments by way of security within the meaning of the Chattels Transfer Act, 1924.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 7th day of May, 1948.

PURSUANT to section two hundred and sixty-eight of the Maori Land Act, 1931, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that

John Miller Cram, Field Supervisor, Tauranga,

being an officer in the service of the Crown, is authorized to attest, in accordance with the provisions of the said section two hundred and sixty-eight, the signatures of Maoris to instruments of alienation of Maori land.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 7th day of May, 1948.

Officers authorized to take and receive Statutory Declarations

PURSUANT to the authority conferred upon me by the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the persons whose names are set out in the Schedule hereto, being officers in the service of the Crown holding the offices stated opposite their names respectively in the said Schedule, are authorized to take and receive statutory declarations under the three-hundred-and-first section of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927.

Appointing One Non-elective Member of the Westland Catchment Board

WHEREAS by warrant dated the sixteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 74 of the eighteenth day of December of the same year, Alan Copland Beck, Esquire, was appointed a non-elective member of the Westland Catchment Board in terms of section forty-four of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941:

And whereas the said Alan Copland Beck has resigned from membership of the said Board, and it is considered expedient to appoint another non-elective member in lieu of the said Alan Copland Beck:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by section forty-four of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941, and of all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling me in this behalf, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby cancel the appointment of the said Alan Copland Beck to be a non-elective member of the Westland Catchment Board, and do hereby appoint

Richard Patrick Suggate, Esquire, B.A. (Oxon), Geological Survey Branch, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Greymouth,

to be a non-elective member of the Westland Catchment Board for a term commencing on the twentieth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and forty-eight, and terminating on the thirtieth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and fifty.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 12th day of May, 1948.

Land permanently reserved in the Hawke’s Bay Land District

WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section of the Land Act, 1924, it is enacted that the Governor-General may from time to time set apart temporarily as reserves, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral licence, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:

And whereas by the three-hundred-and-sixtieth section of the said Act it is provided that land temporarily reserved under the said three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section may, at the expiration of one month but not later than six months, after the publication in the Gazette of notice of such temporary reservation, be permanently reserved, and that notice of such permanent reservation shall be published in the Gazette:
