of Section 65, Block IX, Waimata Survey District; thence to and
along the north-eastern boundary of Sections 65, 76, 58, 77, and 81,
Block IX, Waimata Survey District, to and across a public road to the
northernmost corner of Section 66, Block VIII, Waimata Survey
District; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary of
Sections 66, 67, Block VIII, and 69, Lot 2 (D.P. 926), part Section 74,
and Waihirere U Block, Block X, Waimata Survey District; thence
south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of said Waihirere U
Block to its intersection with the northern boundary of Block XIV,

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 19th day of
May, 1948
Present:
THE RIGHT HON. P. FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
WHEREAS by section thirty of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928,
it is enacted that the Governor-General may, by Order in
Council, on petition in that behalf signed by a majority of the
persons qualified to be enrolled on the ratepayers’ list for any
proposed district, constitute and declare any area of land of not less
than one thousand acres a rabbit district under and for the
purposes of Part II of the said Act:
And whereas, in pursuance of the provisions of the said section
thirty of the said Act, a petition has been received praying that the
area of land described in the Schedule hereto be constituted and
declared a rabbit district under and for the purposes of Part II
of the said Act:
And whereas the said petition is signed by a majority of the
persons in the said area of land qualified to be enrolled on the
ratepayers’ list for the said proposed district, and it is deemed
expedient to give effect to the prayer of the petitioners accordingly:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and
authorities conferred upon him by the said Act, His Excellency the
Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council, doth hereby constitute by the specific
name of the “Hokonui Rabbit District” and declare that area
of land defined in the Schedule hereto to be a rabbit district under
and for the purpose of Part II of the said Act; and doth hereby
further declare that the basis on which the Board to be established
for the said district shall first levy its general rate shall be on the
basis on the acreage of the rateable property in the said district.
SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF THE HOKONUI RABBIT DISTRICT
ALL that area in the County of Southland, Southland Land District,
containing by estimation 43,080 acres, more or less, and bounded
as follows: Commencing at a point on the right bank of the
Makarewa River, the said point being in line with the eastern
boundary of Section 27, Block X, New River Hundred; thence
in a northerly direction along the eastern boundary of Blocks X
and VIII, New River Hundred, to the north-eastern corner of the
latter; thence in a westerly direction along the northern boundary
of the said Block VIII, New River Hundred, to the south-eastern
corner of Block II, Winton Hundred; thence in a northerly direction
generally along the eastern boundary of Blocks II and III, Winton
Hundred, to the Winton–Hedgehope railway-line; thence in an
easterly direction along the said Winton–Hedgehope railway-line
to a point in line with the eastern side of the Boggy Burn – Brown’s
Road; thence in a northerly direction generally along the said
eastern side of the Boggy Burn – Brown’s Road to the eastern
boundary of Block IX, Winton Hundred; thence in a northerly
direction along the said eastern boundary of Block IX, Winton
Hundred, to and across the Otapiri Stream; thence in a northerly
direction along the left bank of the said Otapiri Stream to the
southern boundary of Block LXI, Hokonui Survey District;
thence in an easterly direction along the southern boundary of
Blocks LXI and LXII, Hokonui Survey District, to the north-
western corner of Section 453, Block XVI, Forest Hill Hundred;
thence in a southerly direction along the western boundary of the
said Section 453 to and across Mandeville Road; thence in an
easterly direction along the southern side of the said Mandeville
Road to the north-western corner of Section 457, Block XVI,
Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a southerly direction along the
western boundary of the said Section 457 to the northern boundary
of Section 462, Block XVI, Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a
westerly direction along the said northern boundary of Section 462
and Section 461 to and across Hay Road; thence in a northerly
and westerly direction along the western and southern sides of the
said Hay Road to the north-western boundary of Section 467,
Block XVI, Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a south-westerly
direction along the north-western boundary of the said Section 467
to the north-eastern boundary of Section 468, Block XVI, Forest
Hill Hundred; thence in a north-westerly direction along the
north-eastern boundary of Section 468, Block XVI, Forest Hill
Hundred, to Lot 2 on D.P. 3471; thence south-westerly and
north-westerly along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries
of Lot 2 on D.P. 3471 aforesaid; thence in a north-westerly direction
along the north-eastern boundaries of Lot 1, D.P. 3471 afore-
mentioned, to Taylor’s Gorge Road; thence southerly along the
eastern side of said road to the south-western corner of Lot 1,
D.P. 3471; thence easterly along the northern side of a public
road to the south-western corner of Section 468, Block XVI
aforesaid; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary
of said Section 468, Block XVI aforesaid, to the north-western
corner of Section 469, Block XVI, Forest Hill Hundred; thence
in a south-easterly and easterly direction along the south-western
and southern boundaries respectively of the said Section 469 to
Hay Road; thence in a southerly direction generally along the
said Hay Road to a point in line with the south-western boundary
of Section 417, Block XII, Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a south-
easterly direction by a right line across the said Hay Road, to and
along the south-western boundary of the said Section 417 and
Section 418, Block XII, Forest Hill Hundred, to the southernmost
corner thereof; thence in a north-easterly direction along the
south-eastern boundary of the said Section 418 to the south-western
corner of Section 427, Block XI, Forest Hill Hundred; thence
in an easterly and southerly direction along the southern and
western boundaries of the said Section 427, to and across a public
road to the westernmost corner of Section 429, Block XI, Forest
Hill Hundred; thence in a south-easterly direction along the
south-western boundary of the said Section 429 to the southern
boundary thereof; thence in a westerly direction generally along
the northern boundary of Sections 430B and 430A, Block X, Forest
Hill Hundred, to the westernmost corner of the latter; thence
in a south-easterly, easterly, and north-easterly direction along
the south-western, southern, and south-eastern boundaries respec-
tively of Section 430A aforesaid to the south-western corner of
Section 430B aforesaid; thence in a south-easterly direction along
the south-western boundary of the said Section 430B and that
boundary produced to the western boundary of Section 134, Block X,
Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a southerly direction along the
said western boundary of Section 134 to the southernmost corner
thereof; thence in a westerly direction along the northern boundary
of Section 215, Block X, Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a westerly
and north-westerly direction along the northern and north-eastern
boundaries of Section 435, Block IX, Forest Hill Hundred; thence
in a westerly direction along the northern boundary of the said
Section 435; thence by a right line across a public road; thence
in a westerly, north-westerly, and south-westerly direction along
the north, north-eastern, and north-western boundaries of
Section 431, Block IX, Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a south-
westerly and south-easterly direction along the north-western
and south-western boundaries of Section 432, Block IX, Forest
Hill Hundred; thence south-easterly by the south-western
boundaries of Section 433, Block IX, Forest Hill Hundred; thence
by a right line across a public road to the north-western boundary
of Section 437, Block IX, Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a south-
westerly direction generally by the western boundary of the said
Section 437 to the northern side of a public road forming the
northern boundary of Section 440B, Block IV, Forest Hill Hundred;
thence in a westerly direction generally along the northern side
of the said public road forming the northern boundary of Sections
440B, 440A, Block IV, and Section 439A, Block V, Forest Hill
Hundred; thence in a north-westerly, north-easterly, and north-
westerly direction along the north-eastern, south-eastern, and
north-eastern boundaries respectively of Section 439A, Block V,
Forest Hill Hundred; thence in a north-westerly direction generally
along the northern side of a public road forming the northern
boundary of Sections 439A, 439B, and 192, across another public
road, and along the north-eastern boundary of Section 192 aforesaid
and that line produced to the right bank of the Makarewa River;
thence in a south-westerly direction along the said right bank of
the Makarewa River to the point of commencement.
