The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice of Intention to take Lands
THE Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, hereby gives notice of his intention to take the lands described in the Schedule hereto under Part II of the said Act, and specifies the 1st day of June, 1948, as the date on which possession of the lands is required, and the 26th day of May, 1948, as the date on or before which objections may be made under section 25 of the said Act.
SCHEDULE
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT
ALL that area containing six hundred and twenty-four (624) acres one (1) rood thirty-seven decimal three (37·3) perches, more or less, being Allotments 5, 7, 10, and part Allotment 6, Deposited Plan 1276, Wairuna Estate, and being Section 33 and parts of Sections 34 and 69, Block III, Waipahi Survey District, and parts of Sections 23, 24, 25, 26, 38, and 39, Block XI, Pomahaka Survey District, and being all the land contained in certificates of title, Vol. 114, folios 39 and 41, Vol. 126, folio 52, and Vol. 156, folio 9 (Otago Registry).
Also all that area containing eight hundred and forty-five (845) acres three (3) roods and thirty-three decimal five (33·5) perches, more or less, being Sections 1 and 2, Block XI, Pomahaka Survey District, Sections 30, 31, 32, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 67, Block III, Waipahi Survey District, and closed road between Section 2, Block XI, on the north-east, and Section 1, Block XI, 59 Block IX, Pomahaka Survey District, and Section 52, Block III, Waipahi Survey District, on the south-west, and being all the land contained in certificates of title, Vol. 1, folio 102, Vol. 4, folio 34, Vol. 5, folio 381, Vol. 10, folio 102, Vol. 15, folio 157, Vol. 140, folio 219 and Vol. 267, folio 8, limited as to parcels (Otago Registry).

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Revocation of Notice of Intention to take Lands
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, notice was given of the intention of the Minister of Lands to take under Part II of the said Act the lands described in the Schedule hereto, and a copy of the said notice was published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 68 on the 20th day of November, 1947, at page 1817 :
And whereas an objection was made by the owner in the manner prescribed by the said Act, objecting to the taking of the said lands :
And whereas the Minister of Lands has decided not to proceed with action to take the said lands :
Now, therefore, the Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of subsection (4) of section 24 of the said Act, doth hereby revoke the notice of intention to take the said lands.
SCHEDULE
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
ALL that parcel of land situated in Block XVI, Opaheke Survey District, containing by admeasurement three (3) acres one (1) rood twenty (20) perches, more or less, being Allotment 212, Koheroa Parish, and being all of the land described in certificate of title Vol. 275, folio 46 (Auckland Registry).
Also all that parcel of land situated in Block XVI, Opaheke Survey District, Block VII, Wharekawa Survey District, Block IV, Maramarua Survey District, and Block I, Piako Survey District, containing by admeasurement one thousand seven hundred and ninety-four (1,794) acres and twenty-two (22) perches, more or less, being Allotment 56 and part of Allotment 54, Koheroa Parish, and being all of the land described in certificate of title, Vol. 569, folio 295, limited as to parcels (Auckland Registry).
Also all that parcel of land situated in Block VII, Wharekawa Survey District, and Block I, Piako Survey District, containing by admeasurement two hundred and fifty-two (252) acres and nineteen (19) perches, more or less, being Lot 1 on Deposited Plan 26455, being part of Allotment 153, Koheroa Parish, and being all of the land described in certificate of title, Vol. 693, folio 376 (Auckland Registry).
Also all that parcel of land situated in Block I, Piako Survey District, containing by admeasurement one hundred and one (101) acres one (1) rood thirty-five (35) perches, more or less, being Lot 2 on Deposited Plan 11912, being part of Allotment 47, Maramarua Parish, and being all of the land described in certificate of title, Vol. 694, folio 365 (Auckland Registry).

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Revocation of Notice declaring Land taken for the Settlement of a Discharged Serviceman
PURSUANT to the provisions of section 32 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, the Minister of Lands doth hereby revoke the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 11 of the 26th February, 1948, at page 224, declaring that the land described in the Schedule hereto is taken for the settlement of a discharged serviceman.
SCHEDULE
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT
ALL that parcel of land situated in Block VI, Aongatete Survey District, containing by admeasurement eighty-seven (87) acres nine (9) perches, more or less, being part of Section 28, Apata Settlement, and being the balance of the land described in certificate of title, Vol. 720, folio 80 (Auckland Registry).

Date of Election by Fire-Insurance Companies to fill Extraordinary Vacancies on the Balclutha, Kaitangata, and Milton Fire Boards, and the Dunedin Metropolitan Fire Board

Wellington, 20th April, 1948.
PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, and the rules thereunder, the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act doth appoint Wednesday, the 28th day of April, 1948, to be the date for holding the election of one member of the Balclutha, Kaitangata, and Milton Fire Boards, and the Dunedin Metropolitan Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. J. W. F. Norrie.

NOTICE is hereby given that the above Draft New Zealand Standard Specifications are now being circulated to affected interests for consideration and comment. The closing-date fixed for such comment is the 15th July, 1948.
All persons who may be affected by these specifications once they have been declared Standard Specifications by the Minister of Industries and Commerce may, at any time before the closing-date for comments, obtain on application, free copies from the New Zealand Standards Institute, Hamilton Chambers, 201 Lambton Quay, Wellington, so as to have an opportunity to consider the drafts and to comment thereon to the Standards Council or to an appropriate committee of the Council in accordance with subsection (3) section 8 of the Standards Act, 1941.

IT is hereby publicly notified that the number of valid votes recorded at the above-mentioned election was as follows :—

The total number of valid votes recorded was 252.
The total number of voting-papers rejected as informal was 2.
In accordance with the Second Schedule to the Education Act, 1914, I hereby declare Mr. George William Carrington to be duly elected as a member of the Education Board of the District of Otago for the Central Ward.

Mariners should therefore exercise care when approaching or navigating these harbours.
