Lands permanently reserved in the Taranaki, Wellington, Canterbury, and Southland Land Districts

WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section of the Land Act, 1924, it is enacted that the Governor-General may from time to time set apart temporarily as reserves, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral licence, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:

And whereas by the three-hundred-and-sixtieth section of the said Act it is provided that land temporarily reserved under the said three-hundred-and-fifty-ninth section may, at the expiration of one month, but not later than six months, after the publication in the Gazette of notice of such temporary reservation, be permanently reserved, and that notice of such permanent reservation shall be published in the Gazette:

And whereas the lands described in the Schedule hereto were by the Warrant dated the twenty-seventh day of November, one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven, and published in the Gazette of the fourth day of December of that year, temporarily reserved under the authority of the said Act for the purposes in the Schedule of the said Warrant specified at the end of the respective descriptions of the lands so intended to be temporarily reserved:

Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the said Act, do hereby permanently reserve the lands described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes in the said Schedule specified at the end of the respective descriptions of the lands so intended to be permanently reserved for which purposes the said lands were so temporarily reserved as aforesaid.

SCHEDULE

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT

Sections 601 to 606 inclusive and 633 to 638 inclusive, Town of Stratford : Area, 3 acres and 9.24 perches, more or less. (S.O. plan 8225.) (Railway.)

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT

All that area containing by admeasurement 4.5 perches, more or less, situated in the City of Wellington, being portion of Section 535, Town of Wellington, bounded as follows : Commencing at a point on the northern side of Wingfield Street, distant 156.5 links from the junction of Wingfield Street and Molesworth Street; thence northerly, easterly, and southerly by right lines, bearing 1° 46' distance 71·5 links, bearing 92° 49' 30" distance 39·3 links, and bearing 181° 53' distance 71·1 links; thence westerly along the northern side of Wingfield Street, distance 39·1 links, to the point of commencement, being all the land comprised in Certificate of Title, Volume 79, folio 295 (Wellington Registry). As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 22/873/27, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. (Public buildings of the General Government.)

All that area containing by admeasurement 2 acres 1 rood 0·92 perches, more or less, being Lot 20 on Survey Office plan 20128, and being part of Section 26, Hutt District, City of Lower Hutt. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 1/754/1, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. (Recreation.)

All that area in the City of Lower Hutt, containing by admeasurement 3 roods 3 perches, more or less, being Lot 2 on S.O. plan 20489, and being part Section 30, Hall Jones Settlement, situated in Block XIV, Belmont Survey District. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 6/6/848, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. (Site for a kindergarten.)

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT

Reserve 4493 (formerly part Rural Section 37006), Block II, Selwyn Survey District: Area, 18 acres and 38 perches, more or less. (Plantation.)

All that area containing by admeasurement 2 roods, more or less, being part Reserve 2999 (formerly Sections 240 and 241, Town of Geraldine), and situated in the Borough of Geraldine. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 6/1/3950, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. (Site for a kindergarten.)

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT

Section 78, Block VII, Oteramika Hundred: Area, 1 acre 1 rood 37 perches, more or less. (Recreation.)

All that area containing by admeasurement 1 rood 3 perches, more or less, being Section 56, Town of Tuatapere Extension No. 2. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 25/455A, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red. (Public-school site, Tuatapere.)

Declaring Part of Section 11, Block VI, Waitapu Survey District, in the Nelson Acclimatization District, to be a Sanctuary

IN pursuance of the powers conferred on me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a sanctuary for the purposes of the said Act.

SCHEDULE

ALL that area in the Nelson Land District, known as Blue Lake, situated in part of Section 11, Block VI, Waitapu Survey District, owned by E. C. and E. M. Wadsworth.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 27th day of February, 1948.

Appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following termination of appointment in the Royal New Zealand Navy:

Mr. John Malcolm Thorp, Gunner (T), Royal New Zealand Navy, resignation accepted and appointment terminated, to date 27th December, 1947, and placed on the Retired List of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 28th December, 1947.

Commander (S) Guy Tregarthen Millett, R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 6th November, 1947, and appointed Naval Secretary and Member of the New Zealand Naval Board, to date 6th January, 1948, vice Acting-Captain (S) W. J. G. Prophit, O.B.E., R.N. (granted the acting rank of Captain (S) whilst holding this appointment).

Lower Clutha River Trust.-Appointment of Commissioner

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the 10th day of December, 1947, and published in Gazette No. 74 of the 18th day of the same month, Charles Langbein, Esquire, of Dunedin, Civil Engineer, was appointed a Commissioner of the Lower Clutha River Trust, in terms of section 3, subsection (1), of the Lower Clutha River Improvement Act, 1938:

And whereas the said Charles Langbein has now resigned, and it is considered expedient to appoint another Commissioner in lieu of the said Charles Langbein:

Now, therefore, the Minister of Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 3, subsection (1), of the Lower Clutha River Improvement Act, 1938, doth hereby cancel the appointment of the said Charles Langbein to be a Commissioner of the Lower Clutha River Trust, and doth hereby appoint William Leslie Bell, Esquire, of Dunedin, Civil Engineer, to be a Commissioner of the Lower Clutha River Trust, such appointment to take effect as from the first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and forty-eight.

As witness my hand at Wellington, this 28th day of February, 1948.

Member of the Glencoe Rabbit Board appointed.-(Notice No. Ag. 4502)

PURSUANT to section 37 of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, the Minister of Agriculture doth hereby appoint Edward John Robertson, being an Inspector appointed under Part I of the said Act, to be a member of the Glencoe Rabbit Board.
