Designation of Corps of New Zealand Military Forces altered and Title “Royal” added

I, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting in pursuance of section six of the Defence Act, 1909, and with the gracious approval of His Majesty the King, do hereby change the designations of the several corps of the New Zealand Military Forces, the present designations of which are set out in the First Column of the Schedule hereto, to the respective designations set out opposite each in the Second Column of the said Schedule.

NZ 1063 Flight Lieutenant (temp.) Albert Samuel AGAR, A.F.C., to be Acting Squadron Leader (paid). Dated 16th June, 1947.

NZ 413017 Squadron Leader Keith Marwood BOLES, D.F.C., is transferred from the Active List to the Reserve of Air Force Officers, Class B, Section I. Dated 2nd September, 1947.

The notice appearing in the New Zealand Gazette No. 15, dated 14th March, 1946, page 334, under the heading “Reserve of Air Force Officers—Transfers,” is amended, so far as it relates to “Flight Lieutenant Henry Gift COLBECK, D.F.C.,” to read “Flight Lieutenant Henry Gift COLDBECK, D.F.C.”

Special Compensation Court.—Notice of Appointment of President and Members

WHEREAS by section 34 of the Finance Act (No. 3), 1944, it is enacted that claims for compensation made under the Public Works Act, 1928, by persons having estates in or interests in lands in the neighbourhood of Lake Taupo or the Waikato River by reason of the lands having been taken for the purpose of, or injuriously affected by, or having suffered damage from certain public works undertaken by the Minister of Works for the purpose of controlling the level of the waters in Lake Taupo and regulating the flow of the Waikato River, shall instead of being determined by a Compensation Court under Part III of the Public Works Act, 1928, or by the Native Land Court, be determined by a Special Compensation Court :

And whereas by the said section it is further enacted that the Court shall consist of two members, a President and one other member ; the President from time to time to be the Chief Justice of New Zealand or such present or past Judge of the Supreme Court as the Chief Justice from time to time assigns to the position of President ; and the other member from time to time to be the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court or such other present or past Judge of the Native Land Court as the Chief Judge from time to time assigns to the position of member :

Now, therefore, it is hereby notified that the Honourable Sir Harold Featherston Johnston, Kt., a former Judge of the Supreme Court, has been assigned by the Chief Justice of New Zealand to the position of President, and Ernest Mansfield Beechy, a Judge of the Native Land Court, has been assigned by the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court to the position of the other member of the Special Compensation Court aforesaid : And it is hereby further notified that the said Special Compensation Court shall be known as the Lake Taupo Control Compensation Court.
