(3) Airways: The provision and improvement of aerodromes
and other facilities for civil aviation, including, in particular, the
following :—
(a) Improvements of aerodromes at Kaitaia, Kaikohe, and
Rawene, and a new aerodrome for Dargaville, and the
improvement or relocation of the airport at Whangarei:
(b) Provision of airparks for club and private aviation through-
out the area.
(4) Harbours: Improvement of harbour berthage and cargo-
handling facilities generally in the area, and in particular the
following works :—
At Hokianga: Rebuilding and repair of wharves and renewal
of the vehicular-ferry ramps;
At Opua: The renewal of the wharf; and
At Whangarei: The dredging of the channel and basin,
reclamation of the foreshore, and the diversion of the
Otaika Creek.
(5) Road Transport: Additional facilities for transport of
passengers and goods generally within the area, including, in parti-
cular, the provision of a municipal transport station at Whangarei.
- Utilities
(1) Electricity-supply: Additional generating stations, sub-
stations, transmission-lines, and reticulation, and supply of
electricity within the area generally, and in particular :—
(a) Hydro-electric generation station at Lake Omapere:
(b) Electric transmission-line from Henderson to Maungatapere:
(c) Extension of Maungatapere Substation:
(d) Extension of reticulation to serve Whangaroa, Hokianga,
and the northern portion of Mangonui County, and
fresh areas in the North Auckland and Bay of Islands
Electric-power Districts:
(e) Construction of a depot and branch office at Kaitaia and
head office at Kaikohe for the Bay of Islands
Electric-power Board.
(2) Water-supply, Sewerage, Storm-water Drainage, and Gas:
New and additional works in various parts of the area, including—
(a) New water-supplies or improvements to water-supplies at
Whangarei, Dargaville, Kawakawa, Rawene, Kohukohu,
Onerahi, Motukaraka, Horeke, Broadwood, Maungatu-
roto, and Wellsford, and in the following rural areas, viz.:
Parts of Hobson and Otamatea Counties between Awakino
Valley and Ruawai Flats, the Native settlements at
Whirinaki, Punguru, Lower Waihou, Te Karaka,
Waiotemata, Waima, and Mangamuka,* and in the
Maungaturoto and Mareretu districts:
(b) New sewerage systems at Kaitaia and Wellsford, and
extensions and improvements of the sewerage and
storm-water systems at Whangarei.
- Subdivisional Development
(1) The development of areas for residential, commercial,
industrial, and recreational purposes throughout the area, including
the construction of dwellinghouses and other works provided for
by the Housing Act, 1919, and other Acts, more particularly at
Whangarei, Dargaville, Kaikohe, Kaitaia, Kawakawa, Maungaturoto,
Moerewa, Okaihau, and in sundry rural areas.
(2) The subdivision, regrouping, and improvement of lands
affected by the reclamation and drainage works, and the better
utilization thereof.
(3) The reconstruction and improvement, where necessary,
of existing roads, streets, and bridges approaching and servicing
developmental works.
- Social Services
The provision of sites, buildings, and services throughout the
area for social and cultural and recreational purposes, including :—
(1) Educational—
(a) New technical school and hostel at Kaikohe:
(b) Additions to the Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools at Whangarei
and to the District High School at Dargaville:
(c) New primary schools at various locations throughout the
area:
(d) Establishment of works depots and training centres for the
instruction of Natives in trades and farming.
(2) Health—
(a) The provision of new wards and buildings and services for
the existing hospitals controlled by the Bay of Islands,
Hokianga, Whangarei, and Kaipara Hospital Boards, and
a new hospital, nurses’ home, and surgeon’s residence for
the Mangonui Hospital Board.
(b) Establishment of a new maternity hospital at Kaikohe
and a subsidiary hospital at Paparoa.
(3) Recreational: Extension of the public baths, parks, and
playing areas and reserves throughout the area, including, in
particular, provision of an Olympic swimming pool at Whangarei.
(4) Cultural: Provision of a broadcasting station at Whangarei.
- Defence
Construction and improvement of defence installations.
- Public Administration
New facilities for Government and local administration,
including—
At Whangarei: A Government centre, a new Courthouse,
and a new police-station.

Zealand Gazette of 1918 at page 1686; Bay of Islands, as described
in the New Zealand Gazette of 1945 at page 604; Whangarei, as
described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1945 at page 604; Hobson,
as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1932 at page 149;
Otamatea, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1929 at page
1683; Rodney, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1929
at page 790; and the boroughs of Whangarei, as described in the
New Zealand Gazette of 1939 at page 1581; Kaitaia, as described
in the New Zealand Gazette of 1945 at page 1049; Dargaville, as
described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1908 at page 1360; and the
independent town districts of Kaikohe, as described in the New
Zealand Gazette of 1919 at page 3427; Hikurangi, as described in
the New Zealand Gazette of 1908 at page 1170; Kamo, as
described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1929 at page 385;
Warkworth, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1909 at
page 549; and the beds and foreshores of the Whangarei and
Kaipara Harbours; and also the beds and foreshores of all bays,
harbours, rivers, mouths, streams, estuaries, and other inland
waters whatsoever contiguous to any of the areas hereinbefore
described.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described
in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of a quarry: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so
required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Benneydale and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected
by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same
in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Works at
Wellington.
