STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE

Milling-logs for Sale by Public Tender

State Forest Service,
Invercargill, 14th January, 1947.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of logs to be delivered for the purpose of this sale from State Forests Nos. 68, 77, and 92, Southland Conservancy, Otago Land District, will close at the office of the State Forest Service at Invercargill on the 17th day of March, 1947. Tenderers will be required to offer a price per cubic foot for each of the log sizes and species groups as hereinafter defined and specified.

Delivery of logs will be commenced on the lst day of October, 1948, or on such other date as may be mutually agreed upon between the Commissioner of State Forests (hereinafter referred to as the Commissioner) and the successful tenderer (hereinafter referred to as the purchaser). Full-scale sawmilling operations shall be commenced within a period of two years from the date of acceptance of the tender.

Logs will be delivered to a mill-site in State forest situated in Block XII, Glenkenich Survey District (hereinafter referred to as the said mill-site), which shall be leased by the Commissioner to the purchaser.

The quantity of logs delivered as aforesaid shall amount altogether to not less than 900,000 cubic feet and not more than 1,000,000 cubic feet annually commencing from the date on which the first delivery is made under this sale.

Log Sizes

Sizes of the logs delivered as aforesaid are defined as follows : Pinus radiata, P. muricata, P. ponderosa, P. laricio, Larix decidua, and Pseudotsuga taxifolia (Douglas fir):--

5 and 6 in. : Logs whose diameter at the small end inside bark is 5 in. and over and under 7 in.

7 and 8 in. : Logs whose diameter at the small end inside bark is 7 in. and over and under 9 in.

9 and 10 in. : Logs whose diameter at the small end inside bark is 9 in. and over and under 11 in.

11 and 12 in. : Logs whose diameter at the small end inside bark is 11 in. and over and under 13 in.

13 and 14 in. : Logs whose diameter at the small end inside bark is 13 in. and over and under 15 in.

15 in. and over : Logs whose diameter at the small end inside bark is 15 in. and over.

UPSET PRICES

Upset prices in pence per cubic foot are as follows :-

The minimum diameter of logs in Group A shall be 6 in. and the minimum diameter of all other logs shall be 5 in., the measurements being at the small end inside bark.

The upset prices have been fixed on the basis of the authorized prices for sawn timber as at the 1st January, 1947.

PERIOD OF SALE

Twenty-two years, for the first four years of which, commencing from the date of notification of acceptance of the tender of the purchaser, the prices of logs delivered as aforesaid shall be the prices tendered by the purchaser, and for the subsequent eighteen years of which the prices of logs so delivered shall be such prices revised at the termination of the first four years aforesaid and thereafter at the termination of each successive two-year period as the Commissioner shall determine in terms of Regulation 31 of the State Forest Regulations (published in the Gazette, 1909, at page 1031), as amended by Regulation 5 of the State Forest Regulations Amendment, 1936 (Statutory Regulations, Serial number 104/1937), such prices to be in approximate conformity with the then current values of sawn produce.

DEPOSIT AND TERMS OF PAYMENT

Each tender shall be accompanied by a marked or bank cheque to yield the sum of one thousand pounds (£1,000). Cheques accompanying unsuccessful tenders will be returned to the unsuccessful tenderers when a decision on the tenders has been made by the Commissioner. The cheque accompanying the tender of the
