  1. Social and Cultural Services

The provision of sites, buildings, and services throughout the area for social and cultural purposes, including—

(a) New hospitals, hospital extensions, and ancillary buildings for the South Canterbury Hospital Board at Timaru, Temuka, and Waimate:

(b) The improvement of school facilities generally throughout the area, including additions to and partial rebuilding of Ashburton East Primary and Timaru Technical School, provision of a new combined secondary school at Ashburton, and the provision of a new secondary department at the Temuka District High School.

  1. Defence

Construction and improvement of defence installations.

  1. Public Administration

New facilities for Government and local administration, including—

(a) Construction of new departmental buildings to house local offices of Government Departments, the principal building being at Timaru:

(b) New police-station and new courthouse at Timaru.

SECOND SCHEDULE

APPROXIMATE BOUNDARIES OF AREA

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the northern boundary of the Ashburton County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1939, at page 2115, being the source of the Rakaia River; thence easterly and south-easterly generally along that boundary and the north-eastern boundary of that county to the sea-coast; thence south-westerly generally along the sea-coast to a point in line with the production south-easterly of the right line between Trig. Station J, Block XIII, Waihao Survey District, and Trig. Station 82, Block VIII, Elephant Hill Survey District; thence north-westerly to and along that line to the said Trig. Station J; thence north-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station X, Block V, Waihao Survey District; thence northerly generally along right lines to Trig. Station E, Block II, Nimrod Survey District, to Trig. Station B, Block XV, Burke Survey District, to Trig. Station Mount Burgess, Block IV, Burke Survey District, to Trig. Station D, Round Hill, Block XVI, Tekapo North Survey District, to Trig.

Station HA, Block I, Fox Survey District, to McClure Peak; thence north-easterly generally along the north-western boundary of Ashburton County hereinbefore mentioned to the point of commencement.

In so far as the foregoing notice affects works which by virtue of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933, the Public Works Act, 1928, or any other statute or otherwise howsoever, the Timaru Borough Council is empowered to undertake, the Timaru Borough Council hereby joins in giving and affirms the said notice.
