(4) Airways: Improvement of Harewood Aerodrome by extension of existing runways and development of new runways and taxiways.
(5) Harbours: Enlargement of Lyttelton Harbour and conversion of port facilities for service by road as well as rail, involving construction of a new outer breakwater.
(6) Tramways, Buses, &c.: Additional accommodation for passenger vehicles, additional workshops, and additional administration accommodation.
- Utilities
(1) Electricity Supply: Additional substations, transmission-lines, and reticulation and supply of electricity within the area.
(2) Water-supply and Sewerage: New and additional water-supply works and reticulation and sewerage works in various parts of the area, including—
(a) New city reservoir, Huntsbury, and a number of minor reservoirs and sewerage works.
(b) Water-supply and sewerage works in Waimairi County, Riccarton, New Brighton, Kaiapoi, and Leeston.
- Subdivisional Development
(a) The development of areas for residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational purposes throughout the area, including the construction of dwellinghouses and other works provided for by the Housing Act, 1919.
(b) The subdivision, regrouping, and improvement of lands affected by reclamation and drainage works in the area and better utilization thereof.
(c) The reconstruction and improvement, where necessary, of existing streets and bridges approaching developmental works.
- Social Services
The provision of sites, buildings, and services throughout the area for social and cultural services, including—
(a) New studios and reconstruction of present accommodation for National Broadcasting Services.
(b) St. Helen’s Hospital, being a new maternity hospital with nurses’ home and ancillary buildings in Christchurch.
(c) Improvements of existing hospital buildings in the area and construction of new general hospital, also new hospital at Cashmere and extension of Cashmere Sanatorium.
(d) Construction of a new chemistry block at Canterbury College.
(e) New hostel at Lincoln Agricultural College.
(f) New and additional school buildings, including in particular at Christchurch—
(i) New workshop for building trades at Christchurch Technical School:
(ii) New post-primary school:
(iii) New intermediate school.
(g) Additions to Queen Mary’s Hospital, Hanmer, and ancillary buildings.
(h) Centennial Memorial Baths in Christchurch.
- Defence
Construction and improvement of defence installations.
- Public Administration
New facilities for Government and local administration, including—
(1) New Chief Post Office, new garage and workshops, new store and line depot, and new bulk store, Christchurch, for Post and Telegraph Department.
(2) New central police-station and offices, Christchurch.
(3) New courthouses and accommodation for Justice Department, Christchurch.
(4) New stores depot for Public Works Department, Christchurch.
(5) New departmental building to house various Government Departments.
- Quarries, Shingle-pits, &c.
Provision and development of sources of supply and for storage of materials necessary for construction works.

APPROXIMATE BOUNDARIES OF AREA
ALL that area in the Marlborough and Canterbury Land Districts, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea-coast on the production of the right line between Trig. B, Mount Alexander, and Trig. J, Jacob’s Ladder; thence north-westerly to and along that right line to Trig. B aforesaid; thence south-westerly along a right line to Trig. S, Swyncombe; thence along a right line to Trig. C, Peaked Hill; thence along a right line to Trig. E, Mount Emily; thence southerly along a right line to Trig. G, Mount Crombie; thence south-westerly along a right line in the direction of Trig. P, Look-out, to the right bank of the Hurunui River; thence north-westerly generally along that bank to a point on the right line between Trig. P aforesaid, and Trig. B, Sunday Hill; thence along that right line to Trig. B aforesaid; thence along a right line to Trig. O, Mount Isobel; thence south-westerly generally along a right line in the direction of Trig. C, Mount Selfe, to its intersection with the northern boundary of Waipara County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1930, at page 2015; thence north-westerly and south-westerly generally along the said county boundary to the northern boundary of Tawera County; thence south-westerly generally along the said Tawera County boundary, as described in the New Zealand Statutes, 1909, at page 530, to the northern boundary of the Selwyn County; thence south-westerly along the boundary of Selwyn County, as described in the New Zealand Statutes, 1910, at page 587, to the north-western boundary of the Ashburton County, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1939, at page 2115; thence south-westerly along that boundary to the summit of Trig. Station Mount Tyndall, being a point on the boundary of the North Canterbury Catchment District, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1944 at page 236; thence south-easterly generally along that boundary to the sea-coast; thence north-easterly generally along the sea-coast and so as to include the banks, bars, foreshores, surfaces, contents, and beds of all streams, rivers, inlets, estuaries, mouths, lakes, bays, harbours, outlets, ports, and bights whatsoever, to a point on the production of the right line between Trig. B, Mount Alexander, and Trig. J, Jacob’s Ladder, being the point of commencement.

In so far as the foregoing notice affects works which by virtue of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933, or the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, 1941, the Public Works Act, 1928, or any other statute or otherwise howsoever, the Christchurch City Council or the North Canterbury Catchment Board respectively is empowered to undertake, the Christchurch City Council and the North Canterbury Catchment Board respectively hereby join in giving and affirm the said notice.
