Also all that area in the Town of Waterford, containing by admeasurement 8 acres 1 rood 26·2 perches, more or less, being Lots 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 176, 177, 178, and 179 on D.P. 67, and Lot 1 on D.P. 15488, being portions of Allotment 52, Tahawai Parish, together with Allotments 52B and 52C, Tahawai Parish, bounded as follows: Towards the north-east by Third Avenue, 875 links; towards the south-east by Lots 37 and 30 on Plan 67, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland, and Major Street, 900 links; towards the south-west by Stone Street, Allotments 52A and part 52, Tahawai Parish, 947·2 links; towards the north-west by part Allotment 52, Tahawai Parish, 400 links; towards the north-east, north-west, and south-west by Fourth Avenue, 222·2, 100, and 250 links; and again towards the north-west by Lot 180 on Plan 67, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland, 400 links: be all the aforesaid linkages a little more or less. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 1/33, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged red. The Government Railways (Staff) Amending Regulations 1946

THE RIGHT HON. P. FRASER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to the Government Railways Act, 1926, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby make the following regulations.
REGULATIONS

These regulations may be cited as the Government Railways (Staff) Amending Regulations 1946, and shall be read together with and form part of the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1908, on the 12th day of June, 1922, and published in the Gazette on the 15th day of the same month at page 1583, as the same are enuring under the Government Railways Act, 1926 (hereinafter called the principal regulations).

Regulation 1 of the principal regulations, as amended by the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1926, on the 17th day of December, 1938, and published in the Gazette on the 21st day of the same month at page 2814, is amended by revoking the definition of “Housekeeper” and substituting the following:—
“‘Housekeeper’ means a person, residing with an employee, whose sole occupation is to keep house for such employee and who is not substantially dependent upon the income of a person other than such employee.
“For the purposes of this definition the term ‘employee’ means an employee who is not married, or, if married, is not living with his wife or her husband, and who is a bona fide householder.
“If any question arises as to whether any person is a ‘housekeeper’ within the meaning of this definition or as to whether any employee is a bona fide householder, it shall be determined by the General Manager.”
- (1) Regulation 16 of the principal regulations, as amended (a) by the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1908, on the 8th day of June, 1925, and published in the Gazette on the 11th day of the same month at page 1874, and by the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1926; (b) on the 9th day of September, 1929, and published in the Gazette on the 12th day of the same month at page 2447; (c) on the 17th day of December, 1938, and published in the Gazette on the 21st day of the same month at page 2814; and (d) on the 12th day of September, 1945, and published in the Gazette on the 20th day of the same month at page 1162, is amended by inserting immediately before the first proviso the following words:—
“As a junior trainee mechanician … 16 to 20 years last birthday.”
(2) This regulation shall come into force on the 1st day of February, 1946.
- (1) Regulation 22 of the principal regulations, as amended by the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1926, on the 9th day of September, 1929, and published in the Gazette on the 12th day of the same month at page 2447, is amended by inserting the following paragraph immediately after paragraph (a):—
“(aa) In the case of a trainee mechanician or a junior trainee mechanician three years computed from the date of taking up duty as a probationer:
“Provided that the General Manager may in special circumstances extend the last-mentioned probationary period for such period as he deems fit.”
(2) This regulation shall come into force on the 1st day of February, 1946.
- (1) Regulation 23 of the principal regulations is amended—
(a) By inserting between the number “23” and the words “in no case” the number “(1)” in parentheses:
(b) By revoking all the words thereof from and including the words “provided however” to the end of the regulation:
(c) By substituting for the words so revoked the following words:—
“(e) In the case of a trainee mechanician or junior trainee mechanician unless he has passed to the satisfaction of the General Manager such examinations as may be specified by the General Manager in the following subjects, namely:—
“Electricity and Magnetism:
“Telephony, Introductory:
“Telephony, Stage I:
“Telephony, Stage II:
“Provided that the General Manager may in special circumstances modify the requirements of this paragraph to such extent as he deems fit.”
“(2) Nevertheless, in any case where, on the report of the Permanent Head, the Minister is satisfied that any cadet has not had reasonable opportunity of qualifying for or passing any examination hereinbefore specified his period of probation may be extended for such time not exceeding twelve months as the Minister may determine.
(2) This regulation shall come into force on the 1st day of February, 1946.

Regulation 26A of the principal regulations (as inserted by the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1926, on the 7th day of March, 1940, and published in the Gazette on the 14th day of the same month at page 380) is revoked.

(1) The employment or continued employment of every person (other than administrative officers and persons exempted by the Minister from the provisions of this regulation pursuant to subsection (3) of section 28 of the Statutes Amendment Act, 1945) shall be conditional upon his holding membership in one of the following service organizations, namely:—
(a) The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants:
(b) The Engine-drivers, Firemen, and Cleaners’ Association:
(c) The New Zealand Railway Officers’ Institute (Incorporated):
(d) The New Zealand Railway Tradesmen’s Association.
(2) Every person who is required by this regulation to become a member of a service organization shall be deemed to have complied with that requirement if within the time specified in clause (3) hereof he makes application for membership of an organization in accordance with the rules of the organization.
(3) (a) A person who is a member of the Department on the first day of April, 1946, shall make his application for organization membership within eight weeks after that date.
(b) A person who thereafter becomes a member of the Department shall make his application for organization membership within eight weeks after the day on which he becomes a member.
