THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointment in the Public Service:—
Neilson Arnold Williamson
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Factories Act, 1921-22, on and from the 29th day of August, 1945.

Waihi Drainage Area.—Notice of making and levying General Rates
I, CLARENCE FARRINGDON SKINNER, Minister of Lands, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon me by the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, do hereby make and levy, on the unimproved value of all land within the Pukehina Subdivision of the Waihi Drainage Area constituted under the said Act, the general rates described in the First Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land included in the Central Subdivision the general rate described in the Second Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land in the Kaikokopu Subdivision the general rates described in the Third Schedule hereto, such respective rates being for the purpose of meeting maintenance-costs for the period 1st April, 1945, to 31st March, 1946.
The amount of such rates will be payable in one sum on the 1st October, 1945, together with the amount of the special rates already made and levied, to the Collector of Rates, Room 45, First Floor, Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland.
The rate-book will be open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, and a copy of the same will be available for inspection at the office of Mr. H. W. Earp, Clerk, Kaituna River Board, Te Puke, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.
FIRST SCHEDULE
PUKEHINA SUBDIVISION
Class A.—On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, fivepence and seven one-hundredths of a penny (5·07d.) in the pound.
Class C.—On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C, twopence and twenty-five one-hundredths of a penny (2·25d.) in the pound.
SECOND SCHEDULE
CENTRAL SUBDIVISION
Class A.—On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, tenpence and eighty-nine one-hundredths of a penny (10·89d.) in the pound.
THIRD SCHEDULE
KAIKOKOPU SUBDIVISION
Class A.—On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, tenpence and thirty-eight one-hundredths of a penny (10·38d.) in the pound.
Class B.—On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class B, eightpence and eight one-hundredths of a penny (8·08d.) in the pound.
Class C.—On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C, fourpence and six one-tenths of a penny (4·6d.) in the pound.

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice of Intention to take Land
THE Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, hereby gives notice of his intention to take the lands described in the Schedule hereto under Part II of the said Act, and specifies the 2nd day of May, 1946, as the date on which possession of the land is required, and the 23rd day of October, 1945, as the date on or before which objections may be made under section 25 of the said Act.
SCHEDULE
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT
ALL that parcel of land containing two thousand and seventeen (2,017) acres one (1) rood and thirty-four decimal eight (34·8) perches, more or less, being private road, and Lots 1A, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25, and parts Lots 1, 5, 6, 7, 12, and 14 on Deeds Plan 311, Goodwood Estate, Block I and Block IV, Hawksbury Survey District, and being all the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 271, folio 76, limited as to parcels.
Also Sections 610R and 611R, Block I, Hawksbury Survey District, containing eight (8) acres two (2) roods twenty-four (24) perches, more or less, and being all the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 200, folio 282 (Otago Registry).

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice of Intention to take Land
THE Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, hereby gives notice of his intention to take the lands described in the Schedule hereto under Part II of the said Act, and specifies the 4th day of March, 1946, as the date on which possession of the land is required, and the 29th day of October, 1945, as the date on or before which objections may be made under section 25 of the said Act.

HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT
ALL that area in the Hawke’s Bay Land District containing by admeasurement six thousand seven hundred and twenty-nine (6,729) acres and thirty-nine decimal nought six (39·06) perches, more or less, being part of the Te Ohu Block, and Sections 39R, 40R, 41R, 42R, 43R, 44R, 45R, Block VI, Norsewood Survey District: Bounded towards the north-east by the Ngamoko Forest Reserve, Sections 4 and 3, Block II, Norsewood Survey District, the abutment of a public road, Section 2, Block II, Norsewood Survey District, and the Mangatewainui Stream; towards the south-east by the Woodville–Napier State Highway; towards the south-west by Sections 52 and 53, Block VI, Norsewood Survey District, the Mangatewaiti Stream, Sections 3 and 2, Block V, Norsewood Survey District, and a State forest in Block IV, Norsewood Survey District; towards the west by the Wellington Land District, as described in Gazette, 1936, page 1808, and being the balance of the land comprised in certificates of title, H.B. Vol. 47, folio 158, and H.B. Vol. 101, folio 14 (Hawke’s Bay Registry).

ALL those parcels of land containing together four hundred and seventy-five (475) acres one (1) rood and eight (8) perches, more or less, being—Firstly, Lot 3 on D.P. 2413, and being part of Wharekaka 1c Block, Block VIII, Uawa Survey District, and being all the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 60, folio 146 (Gisborne Registry).

Also all that parcel of land containing three hundred and ninety-one (391) acres one (1) rood and eight (8) perches, more or less, being part of Wharekaka No. 2 Block, Block VIII, Uawa Survey District, and bounded as follows: Towards the west by Wharekaka 1E 1B, 1E 1A, 1E 2, and part Wharekaka 1E 3 Blocks and Lot 5, D.P. 2413; towards the north-east by Kopuatarakihi 1D 4 and 1D 2 Blocks; towards the south-east and again towards the north-east by Kopuni B Block; towards the south-east generally by a public road; and towards the south by Wharekaka 2E 1A Block, and being part of the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 13, folio 295 (Gisborne Registry).
