Sale of Wrecked Motor-vehicles
TENDERS close with the Secretary, War Assets Realization Board, Defence Services Building, Bunny Street, Wellington (postal address, Box 5080, Lambton Quay, Wellington), at noon on Monday, 14th May, 1945, for the purchase of :-
WRECKED MOTOR-VEHICLES (Tenders Nos. 90 to 105), comprising nineteen trucks and cars at Christchurch and five trucks and cars at Dunedin.
Tenders must be addressed to the Board’s Secretary in envelopes marked “ Tender No. . . . . . . . . ” The highest or any tender not necessarily accepted.
Further information and conditions of tender may be obtained at the Board’s Wellington office and at the offices of the Board’s District Executive Officers, Dilworth Building, Auckland, and care of Public Works Department, Christchurch, and also from the Department of Industries and Commerce at Christchurch and Dunedin.
The Board also announces that HEAVY GALVANIZED 44-GALLON DRUMS are for sale at £2 5s. each, and that application should be made to Army Headquarters, Wellington, and Defence Headquarters, Auckland and Christchurch.

Surplus War Assets for Sale
THE War Assets Realization Board, Defence Services Building, Bunny Street, Wellington (postal address, Box 5080, Lambton Quay), invites offers for :-
DRILL STEEL, HOLLOW HEXAGON (approximately 14 tons, ⅞ in. and 1 in. diameter). Stocks held at Martha Mine, Waihi, and State Coal-mines, Greymouth.
SCRAP METAL (held at R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Te Rapa). The “ dump ” comprises scrap steel, iron, aluminium, dural, with small quantities of copper, brass, and lead. Approximate weight, 45 tons.

Price Order No. 357 (Mutton-birds)
PURSUANT to the powers conferred on it by the Control of Prices Emergency Regulations 1939,* the Price Tribunal, acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, doth hereby make the following Price Order :-
PRELIMINARY
-
This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 357, and shall come into force on the 30th day of April, 1945.

In this Order—
“ Birder ” means a person who catches mutton-birds :
“ Mutton-bird ” means a bird of the species Puffinus griseus.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER
- This Order applies with respect to all mutton-birds sold for consumption in New Zealand.
FIXING MAXIMUM PRICES FOR MUTTON-BIRDS
Birders’ Prices
- (1) The maximum price that may be charged or received by any birder for any mutton-birds shall be 1s. per bird.
(2) The maximum price fixed by the last preceding subclause is fixed as for delivery at such places and under such conditions as to packing and state of preparation as conform to the trade practice operative prior to the date of this Order.
Wholesalers’ Prices
- The maximum price that may be charged or received by any wholesaler for any mutton-birds shall be determined as follows :-
(a) Where the wholesaler’s place of business is situate in Stewart Island, the boroughs of Bluff or South Invercargill, or the City of Invercargill, the maximum price shall be 1s. 2d. per bird :
(b) Where the wholesaler’s place of business is situate elsewhere than in one of the localities specified in paragraph (a) hereof, the maximum price shall be the appropriate retail price fixed for the locality where the wholesaler’s place of business is situate reduced by 3d.
Retailers’ Prices
- (1) Subject to the following provisions of this clause, the maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for any mutton birds shall be determined as follows :-
Where the Retailer’s Place of Business is situate in— Maximum Retail Price per Bird.
(a) Stewart Island, the boroughs of Bluff or South Invercargill, or the City of Invercargill s. d.

(b) Elsewhere in the Southland Land District 1 7
(c) The Otago Land District or the Canterbury Provincial District 1 8
(d) The Westland, Nelson, Marlborough, or Wellington Provincial District 1 9
(e) The Hawke’s Bay or Taranaki Provincial District 1 10
(f) The Auckland Provincial District 1 11
(2) Where any mutton-birds are smoked or cooked by any retailer, the appropriate retail prices fixed in accordance with the last preceding subclause may be increased as follows :-
For smoking : By 3d.
For cooking : By 2d.
For smoking and cooking : By 5d.
(3) Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this clause and subject to such conditions, if any, as it thinks fit, the Tribunal, on application by any retailer, may authorize special maximum retail prices in respect of any mutton-birds where for any reason extraordinary freight charges are incurred by the retailer in obtaining delivery from the source of supply that is nearest or most convenient of access to him. Any authority given by the Tribunal under this subclause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of mutton-birds, or may relate generally to all mutton-birds sold by the retailer while the approval remains in force.
(4) Every retailer who offers or exposes for sale in any shop any mutton-birds shall keep in a prominent position in such proximity to the mutton-birds as to be obviously descriptive thereof a ticket placard, or label on which shall be stated in legible and prominent characters the retail price per bird.

Price Order No. 358 (White Oats)
PURSUANT to the powers conferred on it by the Control of Prices Emergency Regulations 1939,* the Price Tribunal, acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, doth hereby make the following Price Order :-
PRELIMINARY

This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 358, and shall come into force on the 30th day of April, 1945.

(1) Price Order No. 299† is hereby revoked.
(2) The revocation of the said Order shall not affect the liability of any person for any offence in relation thereto committed before the coming into force of this Order. -
In this Order,—
“ Grower ”, in relation to oats to which this Order applies, means a person engaged in the business of growing such oats for sale :
“ Grower’s station ”, in relation to any grower, means the railway-station that is nearest or most convenient of access to the grower’s premises :
“ Miller ” includes any person, firm, or company engaged in the business of milling oats :
The expression “ f.o.r.s.e.” means “ free on rail, sacks extra ”.
APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER
- This Order applies with respect to all white oats grown in New Zealand and harvested during the 1944-45 season or at any time thereafter.
