supply that is nearest or most convenient of access to him. Any authority given by the Tribunal under this subclause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of fruit or may relate generally to all fruit to which this Order applies sold by the retailer while the approval remains in force.

RETAILERS TO EXHIBIT RETAIL PRICES

  1. Every retailer who offers or exposes for sale in any shop any fruit to which this Order applies shall keep in a prominent position in such proximity to the fruit to which it relates as to be obviously descriptive thereof a ticket, placard, or label on which shall be stated in legible and prominent characters the following particulars :-

(a) The retail price per pound of the oranges or grapefruit (as the case may be):

(b) The word "Jamaican."

Price Order No. 297 (Plain and Iodised Salt)

PURSUANT to the powers conferred on it by the Control of Prices Emergency Regulations 1939, the Price Tribunal, acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, doth hereby make the following Price Order :-

PRELIMINARY

  1. This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 297, and shall come into force on the 1st day of January, 1945.

  2. (1) Price Orders Nos. 126 and 134 are hereby revoked.

(2) The revocation of the said Orders shall not affect the liability of any person for an offence in relation thereto committed, before the coming into force of this Order.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER

  1. This Order applies with respect to all plain or iodised salt:-

(a) That is packed in pourer drums by the National Dairy Association of New Zealand, Ltd., and is marketed under the trade-name "Glacia"; or

(b) That is packed in pourer drums or in 1 lb. packets by N. W. Stevens, Ltd., and is marketed under the trade-name "New Century".

FIXING MAXIMUM PRICES FOR SALT TO WHICH THIS ORDER APPLIES

Packers' Prices

  1. (1) The maximum price that may be charged or received by the packer for any salt to which this Order applies, when sold to a wholesaler, shall be :-

(a) "Glacia" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 8s. per dozen.

(b) "New Century" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 8s. 1d. per dozen. For 1 lb. packets : 3s. 6d. per dozen.

(2) The prices fixed by this clause are fixed as for delivery by the packer in accordance with established trade practice.

Wholesalers' Prices

  1. The maximum price that may be charged or received by any wholesaler for any salt to which this Order applies, when sold to a retailer, shall be :-

(a) "Glacia" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 9s. 3d. per dozen.

(b) "New Century" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 9s. 3d. per dozen. For 1 lb. packets : 4s. per dozen.

Retailers' Prices

  1. (1) The maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for any salt to which this Order applies shall be determined as follows :-

(a) Where the retailer's premises are situate in an area within which any general wholesale merchant normally undertakes the free delivery of goods to retailers :-

"Glacia" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 1s. per drum.

"New Century" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 1s. per drum. For 1 lb. packets : 5 1/2d. per packet.

(b) In every other case-

"Glacia" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 1s. 0 1/2d. per drum.

"New Century" (plain or iodised) salt: For pourer drums : 1s. 0 1/2d. per drum. For 1 lb. packets : 6d. per packet.

(2) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the foregoing provisions of this clause and subject to such conditions, if any, as it thinks fit, the Tribunal, on application by any retailer, may authorize special maximum retail prices in respect of any salt to which this Order applies where for any reason extraordinary freight charges are incurred by the retailer in obtaining delivery from the source of supply that is nearest or most convenient of access to him. Any authority given by the Tribunal under this subclause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of salt or may apply generally to all salt to which this Order applies sold by the retailer while the approval remains in force.

Price Order No. 298 (Canned Fruit)

PURSUANT to the powers conferred on it by the Control of Prices Emergency Regulations 1939, the Price Tribunal, acting with the authority of the Minister of Industries and Commerce, doth hereby make the following Price Order :-

  1. This Order may be cited as Price Order No. 298, and shall come into force on the 22nd day of December, 1944.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER

  1. This Order applies with respect to all canned peaches, canned pears, and canned apricots whether packed in New Zealand or elsewhere.

FIXING MAXIMUM PRICES OF CANNED FRUIT TO WHICH THIS ORDER APPLIES

Wholesalers' Prices

  1. (1) Subject to the following provisions of this clause, the maximum price that may be charged or received by any wholesaler for any canned fruit to which this Order applies shall be determined-

(a) For canned fruit sold by any wholesaler carrying on business in any of the cities or boroughs of Auckland, Blenheim, Christchurch, Dannevirke, Dunedin, Gisborne, Greymouth, Hamilton, Hastings, Hawera, Hokitika, Invercargill, Masterton, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Timaru, Wanganui, Westport, or Wellington-

(b) For canned fruit sold by any other wholesaler there may be added to the appropriate prices fixed in paragraph (a) hereof the amount of the freight charges incurred by the wholesaler in effecting delivery (not exceeding in any case the charges that would have been incurred if delivery had been effected by a common carrier at current freight rates).

(2) With respect to canned fruits packed in New Zealand, the maximum prices fixed by the foregoing provisions of this clause shall be reduced by a discount of 2 1/2 per cent. thereof where payment is made on or before the 20th day of the month following the month in which delivery is made to the retailer.

Retailers' Prices

  1. (1) Subject to the following provisions of this clause, the maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for any canned fruit to which this Order applies shall be determined as follows :-

(a) For canned fruit sold in any area within which any wholesaler carrying on business in any of the cities or boroughs of Auckland, Blenheim, Christchurch, Dannevirke, Dunedin, Gisborne, Greymouth, Hamilton, Hastings, Hawera, Hokitika, Invercargill, Masterton, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Timaru, Wanganui, Westport, or Wellington normally undertakes the free delivery of goods to retailers :-

(b) For canned fruit sold elsewhere: The appropriate maximum prices fixed by paragraph (a) hereof increased by 1d. per can.

(2) Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this clause and subject to such conditions, if any, as it thinks fit, the Tribunal, on application by any retailer, may authorize special maximum retail prices in respect of any canned fruit to which this Order applies where for any reason extraordinary freight charges are incurred by the retailer in obtaining delivery from the source of supply that is nearest or most convenient of access to him. Any authority given by the Tribunal under this subclause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of canned fruit or may relate generally to all canned fruit to which this Order applies sold by the retailer while the approval remains in force.
