Distinguished Flying Cross
Flying Officer Albert Hart Robertson Zillwood (NZ 4310159), Royal New Zealand Air Force, of Auckland.
This officer was the navigator of an aircraft detailed to attack a target at Nantes. Shortly after making the attack the aircraft sustained damage. The pilot was seriously injured and was unable to execute his duties. Despite his lack of experience the air bomber took over the controls, and with the assistance of Flying Officer Zillwood succeeded in flying the damaged aircraft to base. These members of the aircraft crew displayed exceptional coolness, great determination, and devotion to duty in most difficult circumstances. They have completed very many sorties against heavily defended targets in Germany.
His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve the following awards in recognition of gallantry and devotion to duty in operations against the enemy :-
To be a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order
Acting Wing Commander Roy Douglas Max, D.F.C. (NZ 2076), Royal New Zealand Air Force, of Nelson.
