section 50 of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928, been pleased
to appoint, on and from the 20th day of June, 1944—

under the said Act.

Appointment of Officer for Purposes of Parts I and II of the
Fisheries Act, 1908

BY direction of the Hon. Minister of Marine, it is hereby notified
that His Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance
of the provisions of the Fisheries Act, 1908, and of the Official
Appointments and Documents Act, 1919, appointed
Raymond Alexander Irvine, of Hakataramea,
to be an officer for the purposes of Parts I and II of the first-
mentioned Act in respect of the Waitaki Acclimatization District.

Harold Gregor Hodge, of Mount Maunganui,
to be a Ranger of Beaches for the purposes of the Harbours Act, 1923,
as from the 12th day of June, 1944.

Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris appointed
Registrar-General’s Office,

BY virtue of the powers conferred on me by the Maori Births and
Deaths Registration Regulations 1935, I hereby appoint
Leonard Ray Kerr
to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Maketu, on and
from the 1st day of June, 1944.

IT is hereby notified that Wednesday, 2nd August, 1944, is to be
observed as Arbor Day, and, in view of the national importance
of tree-planting, local bodies throughout New Zealand are requested
to organize suitable celebrations on that date.
Where on account of local climatic conditions in any district the
2nd August is deemed unsuitable, the local bodies affected are invited
to observe some other suitable day in that month.

Agreement for Grant of Right-of-way in favour of John Limond Findlay,
of North Taieri, Farmer, over Land in East Taieri Survey District
taken for a Public Work, assented to
WHEREAS by a Proclamation dated the 11th day of September,
1941, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 18th
day of the same month, all that piece of land containing 26 acres
0 roods 6 perches, being part Section 2, Block X, East Taieri Survey
District, was taken for a public work :
And whereas John Limond Findlay, of North Taieri, Farmer,
was entitled to compensation in respect of his interest in the said
land :
And whereas the Minister of Works agreed to grant to the said
John Limond Findlay and his successors in title a right-of-way over
the land described in the Schedule hereto as part satisfaction of the
compensation aforesaid and to grant a certain area of land in
satisfaction of the residue of the said compensation :
And whereas the said John Limond Findlay agreed to accept
such grants in satisfaction of the said compensation;
Now, therefore, I, Robert Semple, Minister of Works, do hereby
give notice, in pursuance of section 97 of the Public Works Act,
1928, that I assent to the above agreement.
SCHEDULE
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land affected : 3 roods 31·3
perches.
Being Section 13, Block VI, East Taieri Survey District.
In the Otago Land District ; as the same is more particularly
delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 119488, deposited in the office
of the Minister of Works, at Wellington, and thereon edged red.
Dated at Wellington, this 27th day of June, 1944.

Notice of Intention to take Land for Housing Purposes
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions
of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described
in the Schedule hereto for housing purposes : And notice is hereby
further given that the plan of the land required to be taken is
deposited in the post-office at Point Chevalier and is there open
for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the
said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the
taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such
writing, within forty days from the 7th day of July, 1944,
to the Minister of Works at Wellington.
