Revocation of Order in Council exempting certain Native Lands from Payment of Rates

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this 7th day of June, 1944

THE HON. D. G. SULLIVAN PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
Pursuant to section one hundred and four of the Rating Act, 1925, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby revoke the Order in Council made on the twenty-sixth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, and published in the Gazette on the twenty-seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, at page 856, exempting all Native lands situated within the County of Kawhia, save so far as such Native lands were then subject to subsisting leases to Europeans, from all rates made or levied by the Kawhia County Council under the provisions of the said Act, and doth cancel the exemption granted by the Order in Council aforesaid.

Pursuant to section two hundred and sixty-eight of the Native Land Act, 1931, I, Cyril Louis Norton Newall, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the persons whose names are set out in the Schedule hereto, being officers in the service of the Crown holding the offices set out after their respective names, are authorized to attest, in accordance with the provisions of the said section two hundred and sixty-eight, the signatures of Natives to instruments of alienation of Native land.

Pursuant to section five hundred and forty-seven of the Native Land Act, 1931, I, Cyril Louis Norton Newall, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the persons whose names are set out in the Schedule hereto, being officers in the service of the Crown holding the offices set out after their respective names, are authorized to attest, in accordance with the provisions of the said section five hundred and forty-seven, the signatures of Natives to instruments by way of security within the meaning of the Chattels Transfer Act, 1924.

Notifying the proposed Exchange of Crown Land in the Auckland Land District for other Land

WHEREAS by section one hundred and sixty of the Land Act, 1924, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor-General, whenever he deems it expedient in the public interest, to grant in fee-simple any area of Crown land which is subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1924, in exchange for the fee-simple of any other land, and on any such exchange to pay or receive any sum by way of equality of exchange :
And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor-General, it is expedient to exchange the Crown land described in the First Schedule hereto for the land of equal value described in the Second Schedule hereto, and the owner of the land described in the Second Schedule has agreed to such exchange :
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the aforesaid powers and authorities, doth hereby declare it is his intention to grant in fee-simple the area of Crown land described in the First Schedule hereto in exchange for the fee-simple of the land described in the Second Schedule.
FIRST SCHEDULE
DESCRIPTION OF LAND AUTHORIZED TO BE EXCHANGED

Allotment 261, Matata Parish : Area, 2 perches, more or less.
Allotment 262, Matata Parish : Area, 27 perches, more or less.

All that area in the Whakatane County, containing by admeasurement 27 perches, more or less, being part of Lot 1, D.P. 16781, being part of Allotment 136A, Matata Parish, and being part of the land comprised in Certificate of Title, Volume 653, folio 265 (Auckland Registry).

His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, terminations of appointments, and promotions in the Royal New Zealand Navy:-
Captain Francis John Butler, M.B.E., R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z. ship as directed, to date 15th March, 1944.
Mr. Roy Ernest Ansley, Acting-Gunner (T), confirmed in rank with original seniority of 12th December, 1941.
Chief Petty Officer John George Ward Draper, N.Z. 819, promoted to the rank of Temporary Acting-Gunner and appointed H.M. ship as directed, to date 12th March, 1944.
Mechanician Thomas Alexander Simpson, N.Z. 1182, promoted to the rank of Acting Warrant Mechanician and appointed H.M.N.Z. ship as directed, to date 1st March, 1944.
Mechanician Leslie Francis Price, N.Z. 574, promoted to the rank of Temporary Acting Warrant Mechanician and appointed H.M.N.Z. ship as directed, to date 13th March, 1944.
