Exemption Order under the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940


PURSUANT to the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, the Minister of Transport doth hereby order and declare that the provisions of clause (1) of Regulation 7 of the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, so far as they relate to the driving of heavy trade motors, shall not apply to the persons hereinafter mentioned, but in lieu thereof the following provision shall apply :-

A motor-driver’s license issued under the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940 to any one of the persons described in Column 1 of the Schedule hereunder may authorize him to drive a heavy trade motor for the purpose of the business of the respective employer described in Column 2 of the said Schedule, but shall not authorize him, while he is under the age of eighteen years, to drive a heavy trade-motor for any other purpose.

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice declaring Land taken for the Settlement of Discharged Servicemen


WHEREAS, pursuant to section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, notice was given of the intention of the Minister of Lands to take under Part II of the said Act the lands described in the Schedule hereto, and a copy of the said notice was published in the Gazette on the 27th day of January, 1944, at page 60 :

And whereas no objection was made in manner prescribed by the said Act to the taking of the lands specified in the said notice :

Now, therefore, I, Clarence Farrington Skinner, Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of section 27 of the said Act, do hereby declare that the said lands are taken for the settlement of discharged servicemen, and I hereby specify the 30th day of March, 1944, as the date on which the said lands shall be deemed to be vested in His Majesty the King.

SCHEDULE

ALL those parcels of land containing together one thousand one hundred and ninety-five (1,195) acres three (3) roods and five and five-tenths (5·5) perches, more or less, being Section Twelve (12) and parts of Section Thirteen (13), Block V, and part of Section Seventy-eight (78), District of Awatere, part of Section Eighty-nine (89), District of Flaxbourne, and parts of Section Two Hundred and Sixty-two (262), Flaxbourne Run, District of Flaxbourne, being the land contained in Certificate of Title, Volume 37, folio 59 (Marlborough Registry) : several of the boundaries of the said land are more particularly shown on plan a copy of which is deposited in the Land Registry Office at Blenheim with copy Proclamation No. 57 ; and all those parcels of land containing together one (1) acre one (1) rood and thirty-two and eight-tenths (32·8) perches, more or less, being Section Twelve (12), Block XIII, and Sections Thirty-two (32) and Thirty-three (33), Block XIV, Clifford Bay Survey District, being the land contained in Certificate of Title, Volume 40, folio 188 (Marlborough Registry).

Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1944.—Revocation of Declaration of Essential Industry No. 94


IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by Regulation 11 of the Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1944, the Minister of Industrial Man-power doth hereby revoke Declaration of Essential Industry No. 94 as published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 70 on the 23rd July, 1942.

Immediate Operational Awards approved by His Majesty the King

HIS Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve of the following Immediate Operational Awards in recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy in the Solomon Islands :—

Distinguished Flying Cross

Pilot Officer Donald Fraser Ayson (NZ 402538), Royal New Zealand Air Force, No. 1 Squadron.

On 24th December, 1943, Pilot Officer Ayson was the Captain and Pilot of a Ventura aircraft returning from a patrol in the vicinity of Bougainville Island and New Britain. The aircraft was suddenly attacked by nine Zero fighters. In spite of skilful evasive action taken by Pilot Officer Ayson, the fire controller was wounded and the intercommunication system was wrecked. Pilot Officer Ayson continued to take such evasive action as he could until another member of the crew took over fire control and was able to give him intermittent reports of the enemy attacks. During one attack his rudder
