Open Seasons for the taking or killing of Opossums in certain
Acclimatization Districts

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington, this 23rd day of February,
1944
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by
the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, His Excellency
the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council, doth hereby order and declare that
opossums may be taken or killed within the acclimatization districts
specified in the Schedule hereto, except in any sanctuary other than
a scenic reserve, subject in all cases to the general regulations made
by Order in Council dated the twenty-fourth day of May, one
thousand nine hundred and thirty-four, and to the special con-
ditions specified in connection with each district.
SCHEDULE
AUCKLAND ACCLIMATIZATION DISTRICT
(As described in New Zealand Gazette No. 4 of 23rd January, 1930,
at page 159.)
- Season: Noon on 1st July to noon on 1st September, 1944
(both days inclusive). - License fee: £2.
- Officers authorized to issue trappers’ licenses: Chief Post-
master, Auckland; Postmaster, Paeroa.
SOUTH CANTERBURY ACCLIMATIZATION DISTRICT
(As described in New Zealand Gazette No. 17 of 12th March, 1925, at
page 752.)
- Season: Noon on 1st June to noon on 1st August, 1944
(inclusive). - License fee: £2.
- Officers authorized to issue trappers’ licenses: Chief Post-
master, Timaru; Postmasters, Geraldine and Temuka.

Notice to Persons affected by Applications for Licenses under Part III
of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936
Taking of Fish for Sale
C. F. Low, 22 Fenton Street, Thames, has applied for a license
to permit him to operate the 30 ft. 40 h.p. engined launch “Wainui,”
using set-nets, long lines, and hand-lines, catches to be landed at
Thames.
L. G. Vik, 4 Maryhill Terrace, Dunedin, has applied for a license
to permit him to operate the fishing-vessel “Quest” (not yet
registered), using set-nets, drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines, and
crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Port Chalmers.
G. E. Brasell, 30 Cressy Terrace, Lyttelton, has applied for a
variation in the conditions of his industrial fishing license to permit
him to operate a new 59 ft. 120 h.p. engined vessel (to be constructed),
using trawl-nets, catches to be landed at Lyttelton.
L. A. McNabb, Roto Street, Tahunanui, has applied for a license
to permit him to operate the fishing-vessel “Moonlight” NN. 706,
using trawl-nets, set-nets, drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines, and
crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Nelson.
L. McMannaway, Plimmerton, has applied for a variation in
the conditions of his industrial fishing license in respect of the
fishing-vessel “Southern Star,” WN. 301, so as to permit him to
operate in its place a new 55 ft. 90 h.p. engined vessel (to be con-
structed), using trawl-nets, purse-seine nets, long lines, hand-lines,
set-nets, and drag-nets, catches to be landed at Paremata, French
Pass, and Nelson.
O. H. Hope, 115 Kawai Street, Nelson, has applied for a license
to permit him to operate the fishing-vessel “Southern Star,”
WN. 301, using trawl-nets, set-nets, drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines,
and crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Nelson, French Pass,
and Picton.
Messrs. Seafoods Ltd., Auckland, has applied for a variation
in the conditions of its industrial fishing license in respect of the
fishing-vessel “Three Kings,” AK. 13, so as to permit that vessel
also to land its catches at Opua, Bay of Islands.
Manufacture for Sale of Footwear
R. Hannah and Co., Ltd., Wellington, has applied for an
extension of its existing license so as to permit the machining of
uppers in Wanganui.
Buchanan and Edwards Branch of Felt and Textiles of N.Z.,
Ltd., has applied for an extension of its existing license to permit
the use of the pump process in the manufacture of slippers.
Persons considering themselves materially affected by the
decision of the Bureau of Industry on these applications should make
any desired representations in writing not later than the 2nd March,
1944, to G. L. O’Halloran, Secretary, Bureau of Industry, G.P.O.
Box 3025, Wellington.

H. D. Tolley, Bridge Street, Port Ahuriri, has applied for a
license to permit him to operate the fishing-vessel “June,” NR. 18,
using trawl-nets, set-nets, drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines, and
crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Port Ahuriri.
W. V. Atkinson, 177 MacKenzie Avenue, Opawa, Christchurch,
has applied for a variation in the conditions of his industrial fishing
license so as to permit him to operate the fishing-vessel “Helene,”
LN. 172, using trawl-nets, set-nets, drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines,
and crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Lyttelton and Akaroa.
Fish Canning
A. Lloyd, Puru, Thames Coast, has applied for a license to carry
on the industry connected with the preservation for sale in
hermetically-sealed cans, jars, or other containers of fish (fish-paste
only).
Pharmacy Industry
The Buller United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary, Westport,
has applied for permission to transfer to itself the pharmacy license
of Edward Alexander Owles, Palmerston Street, Westport, with
a view to amalgamation.
Persons considering themselves materially affected by the
decisions of the Bureau of Industry on these applications should
make any desired representations in writing not later than the
9th March, 1944, to G. L. O’Halloran, Secretary, Bureau of Industry,
G.P.O. Box 3025, Wellington.
