CITIZENS and traffic-control authorities throughout New Zealand are requested to observe the practice adopted in this Dominion on former similar occasions of two minutes' silence from 11 a.m., and the suspension of all vehicular traffic during that period, on 11th November next.
Where a service is held it is suggested that it should be at the local cenotaph or war memorial, as the case may be.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments.—Fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops within the Borough of Hamilton
WHEREAS a requisition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Hamilton has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions: (1) On the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.; (2) on the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday and on the Thursday immediately preceding Anniversary Day or Anzac Day when such day falls on a Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.:
And whereas he is satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, the Minister of Labour doth hereby direct that on and after the 22nd day of November, 1943, all the said shops within the said borough shall be closed accordingly.
The notices gazetted on the 31st August, 1922, and 17th December, 1925, fixing the closing-hours of grocers’ shops within the Borough of Hamilton, and the notices gazetted on the 4th December, 1924, and 17th December, 1925, prohibiting the sale in the Borough of Hamilton of certain goods comprised in the trade of a grocer are hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Approval of Testing Officer under the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940
IN terms of Regulation 5 of the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, the Minister of Transport doth hereby approve, until further notice, of the person named in column 2 of the Schedule hereunder being Testing Officer under the said regulations for the authority specified in column 1 of the said Schedule.

Notice requiring certain Goods-service Licensees to join the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance (Incorporated)
WHEREAS under the Transport Organization Membership Regulations 1941 a poll has been conducted on the proposal that all licensees comprised in the following classes—namely, all goods-service licensees other than—
(1) Licensees operating in the cities and boroughs of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Napier, Gisborne, Palmerston North, Oamaru, and Invercargill, and in the area commonly known as the Hutt Valley (inclusive of the City of Lower Hutt and the boroughs of Petone and Upper Hutt);
(2) Licensees, additional to those described in the preceding paragraph, operating wholly or partly within a radius of twenty miles of the cities of Auckland or Wellington, within a radius of fifteen miles of the City of Christchurch, within a radius of thirty miles of the City of Dunedin, or within a radius of six miles of the towns of Napier, Gisborne, Palmerston North, Oamaru, and Invercargill, who are members of the New Zealand Carriers' Federation (Incorporated) or of an organization affiliated thereto or a member thereof;
(3) Government Departments;
(4) Licensees in respect of services which are required to be licensed only by reason of the provisions of section 17 of the Transport Law Amendment Act, 1939, or by reason of the provisions of the Transport (Goods) Emergency Regulations 1943, and which are not carried on for hire or reward;
(5) Licensees who are members of the New Zealand Workers' Union and who are employed as drivers by the Public Works Department;
(6) Any licensee whose total revenue from his goods-service is less than £200 per annum;
be required to join the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance (Incorporated):
And whereas of 801 votes recorded 616 were in favour of the proposal:
Now, therefore, I, James O'Brien, Minister of Transport, do hereby declare that every person who is now or hereafter the holder of a continuous or seasonal goods-service license under the Transport Licensing Act, 1931, and is a person comprised in the following classes—namely, all goods-service licensees with the exceptions described in the preceding paragraphs (1) to (6)—if he is not already a member thereof shall, not later than the 11th day of December, 1943, or not later than fourteen days after the grant to him of such license (as the case may be), join the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance (Incorporated).
For the purposes of this notice membership of an organization which is for the time being affiliated to or a member of that organization is by the said regulations deemed to be membership also of that organization.

PURSUANT to subsection (6) of section 4 of the Motor-vehicles Insurance (Third-party Risks) Act, 1928, notice is hereby given that I have amended my Register of insurance companies entitled to underwrite insurance business in terms of the abovementioned Act by deleting the name of Bennie S. Cohen and Son (N.Z.), Ltd., and substituting therefor the name of Edward Lumfley and Sons (N.Z.), Ltd.
