Alterations to the Scale of Charges upon the New Zealand Government Railways
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1926, and its amendments, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, Robert Semple, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges and to the Goods—Local Rates Scale of Charges made on the 13th day of April, 1939, and published in the Supplement dated the 19th day of April, 1939, to the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th day of April, 1939, in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic.
GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES
PASSENGERS
1. GENERAL REGULATIONS
By omitting paragraph 3 and substituting the following :—
- Unless otherwise provided, children under 4 years of age in the charge of a responsible person travel free ; children 4 years of age and under 14 years of age, at half rates.
Paragraph 4 : By omitting the words "not exceeding 12 years of age," and substituting the words "under 14 years of age."
4. Sleeping-berths
Paragraph 7 :—
By omitting from subparagraph (a) the words "not exceeding 12 years of age," and substituting the words "under 14 years of age."
By omitting from subparagraph (b) the words "neither of whom exceeds 12 years of age," and substituting the words "both of whom are under 14 years of age."
By omitting from subparagraph (d) the words "Children over 12 years of age," and substituting the words "Children 14 years of age and over."
9. Trip Bearer Tickets
Paragraph 4 : By omitting the words "over three but not exceeding twelve years of age," and substituting the words "4 years of age and under 14 years of age."
30. Judges proceeding to Shows, Exhibitors, Attendants, Owners, or Trainers travelling in Charge of Live-stock, Racehorses, or Polo Ponies
By omitting paragraph 3A and substituting the following :—
3A. JOCKEYS AND TROTTING DRIVERS TRAVELLING TO AND FROM RACE AND TROTTING MEETINGS
Jockeys and trotting drivers travelling to attend race and trotting meetings for the purpose of riding or driving thereat, or returning home after having ridden or driven at such meetings, may, on production of a certificate in the following form, together with their membership-cards signifying membership of the New Zealand Jockeys' Association in the case of jockeys, and the New Zealand Owners' and Breeders' Association in the case of trotting drivers, be granted tickets at the following fares :—
(a) Single or return tickets available for first-class travel at the appropriate second-class fare (Regulation 2).
(b) Single or return tickets available for second-class travel at three-quarters of the appropriate second-class fare (Regulation 2).

for { the purpose of { riding / driving } } at a { race / trotting } meeting at .................... on ....................

Tickets issued under the provisions of this paragraph will have the same availability as ordinary tickets (Regulation 2).
The minimum charge per passenger will be 2s. 2d.

40. Suburban Fares
Paragraph 17 : By omitting the words "over three but not exceeding twelve years of age," and substituting the words "4 years of age and under 14 years of age."
LUGGAGE, PARCELS, ETC.
45. Checked Luggage
Paragraph 1, subparagraph (b) :—
By omitting the words "Picton Section," and substituting the words "Picton or Nelson Sections."
By adding the following new subparagraph :—
(j) From any officered station on the Nelson Section to any station on the North Island main line and branches.
Paragraph 15 :—
By adding after the words "Wellington-Picton" the words "and Wellington-Nelson."
By adding after the words "paragraphs 15" (three places) the words "15A."
