NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—CAPE MARIA VAN DIEMEN
Light to be established
Previous notice: No. 32 (2) of 1940.
Position: North-western extreme of cape. Lat., 34° 29′·0 S.; long., 172° 38′·2 E. (approx.).
Abridged description: Fl. 15 sec., 297 ft. 15 M. (U).
Details: An unwatched light will be established on the 1st October. Character: Flashing white every fifteen seconds. Elevation: 297 ft. Structure: Circular iron tower painted white, 8 ft. high, red lantern. Visibility: Fifteen miles. Arc of visibility: From 314° through north, east, and south to 206°, except where obscured by the island off the cape. The approximate arcs off shore obscured by the island are from 120° to 123° and from 140° to 147°.
NOTE.—The red sector mentioned in previous notice will not be established.

Revoking Timber Control Notice No. 26
NOTICE is hereby given that, in pursuance of the Supply Control Emergency Regulations 1939 and the Timber Emergency Regulations 1939, I, Alexander Robert Entrican, Timber Controller, hereby revoke the Timber Control Notice No. 26* (which relates to the disposal of timber materials being the product of the Westland, Grey, and Inangahua Counties, to persons in the Southland Land District and portion of the Otago Land District).

CROWN LANDS NOTICE
Land in Wellington Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease
District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 8th September, 1943.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection on renewable lease; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Friday, 22nd October, 1943.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, 27th October, 1943, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicants are required to pay immediately at the conclusion of the ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, and weighting for improvements.

Borough of Raetihi.—Makotuku Survey District
SECTIONS 35 and 36, Block VI: Area, 4 acres. Capital value, £100; half-yearly rent, £2 10s.
Weighted with £19 10s. (payable in cash) for improvements, comprising felling, grassing, and fencing.
The sections are situated within the Borough of Raetihi, with frontages to Alexandra Road, one mile and a half from Raetihi Railway-station and half a mile from Raetihi School. Easy undulating land in grass; soil of medium loam on papa formation.

These sections are situated in Kaha Street, one quarter of a mile from Rangataua Post-office, Railway-station, and School. Good building-site in poor locality. All flat land, no water-supply; soil of medium loam resting on volcanic conglomerate formation.

Sections 5–17, Block XV, and Sections 1, 2, 3, 9–16, Block XVII: Area, 19 acres 1 rood 9·3 perches. Capital value, £10; half-yearly rent, 5s.
Weighted with £124 10s. (payable in cash) for improvements, comprising cow-shed, grassing, ploughing, stumping, and fencing.
The sections are situated in Horopito West Township, half a mile from post-office, railway, and school. Land is level to low-lying and swampy, and is only suitable to be worked in conjunction with other land for farming purposes. Requires further stumping, ploughing, and regrassing.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender
State Forest Service,
Hokitika, 1st September, 1943.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Hokitika, at 4 p.m. on Monday, 20th September, 1943.
SCHEDULE
WESTLAND CONSERVANCY.—WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT
ALL the milling-timber on that piece of land containing 138 acres, situated in Blocks II and VI, Hohonu Survey District, State Forest No. 31, approximately fourteen miles from Gladstone Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 279,000, or in board feet 1,788,000, made up as follows:—

Upset price: £1,715.
Time for removal: Two years.
Terms of Payment
A marked cheque for one-fifth of the amount of the tender, together with £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid in eight equal monthly instalments, the first of which shall be made one month after the date of sale.
Special Conditions

The successful tenderer shall be liable for payment for any damage caused by fire on the above-mentioned area during the term of the license.

The successful tenderer shall make good all damage done by himself or his servants to the water-race running through the above-mentioned area, and his sawmilling operations shall not interfere in any way with mining operations.
Terms and Conditions
-
All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.

The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921-22, the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions.

The aforementioned quality and kind as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price by reason of the said timber being of less quantity or kind as stated herein or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.
