THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—

Robert William Kavanagh

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Tuatapere, on and from the 27th day of October, 1943.

William Kanara Topia

to be Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Panguru, on and from the 1st day of November, 1943.

Calvert Percy Wilkinson

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Dannevirke, on and from the 8th day of November, 1943.

Timothy Keogh

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Helensville, on and from the 8th day of November, 1943.

Robert Leslie Paterson

to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Porangahau, on and from the 12th day of November, 1943.

Alexander Gilchrist Johnston

Notice of Intention to take Land for a Public Work

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for a public work: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Washdyke and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objection to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the 6th day of December, 1943, to the Minister of Works at Wellington.


SCHEDULE

APPROXIMATE areas of the pieces of land required to be taken:—

0 1 22 Part Rural Section 7458; edged red.
7 2 36 Part Lot 21, D.P. 578, being part Rural Section 7458; edged yellow.

Situated in Block X, Arowhenua Survey District (Canterbury R.D.).

In the Canterbury Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 118294, deposited in the office of the Minister of Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.

The Auckland Laundry Workers’ and Dry-cleaners’ Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1943

IN pursuance of the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, the Minister of Labour doth hereby order as follows:—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Auckland Laundry Workers’ and Dry-cleaners’ Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1943.

  2. This Order applies to workers employed in laundries and to women and boys employed in dry-cleaning establishments in the Auckland district and to the employers of such workers.

  3. The provisions of all Acts and regulations and orders thereunder, and of all awards and industrial agreements under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925, and of all other voluntary agreements affecting conditions of employment are hereby suspended in so far as they operate to prevent the employment of the workers referred to in clause 2 hereof on any Sunday, holiday, or half-holiday, but such suspension shall be subject to the following conditions, viz.:—

(1) The work performed on any Sunday, holiday, or half-holiday in the case of laundries shall be exclusively for hospitals, shipping, or the Armed Forces, and, in the case of dry-cleaning establishments, shall be exclusively for the Armed Forces.

(2) Nothing in this Order shall be interpreted as making it compulsory for any worker referred to in clause 2 hereof to work on any Sunday, holiday, or half-holiday.

  1. This Order shall come into effect on the day of the date hereof.
