Settlement Land in Canterbury Land District for Selection on
Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Christchurch, 11th January, 1943.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned property
is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land
Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, and applications
will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christ-
church, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Monday, 8th February, 1943.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the
District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Tuesday, 9th
February, 1943, at 10.30 o'clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable
to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any
Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined
documentary evidence of their financial position and farming
experience.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the
examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required
to pay immediately at the conclusion of the ballot a deposit com-
prising the first half-year's rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, and
amount of weighting for improvements.
SCHEDULE.
CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Waimate County.—Waimate Settlement.
(Exempt from payment of rent for one year.)
SECTIONS 1 and 36, Block XIV, Waimate Survey District, and
Section 2, Block II, Waitaki Survey District : Area, 996 acres
3 roods 30 perches. Capital value, £2,000*; half-yearly rent, £50.
Weighted with £566 for improvements, comprising dwelling,
washhouse and dairy, stable, wool-shed, coal and wood shed,
garage, men's hut, plantation and shelter-belts, yards, well, pump,
and fencing. This sum is payable in cash, or on such terms as may
be arranged prior to the ballot between the applicant and the State
Advances Corporation. It will be necessary for applicants to
produce evidence to the Land Board of the terms arranged.
The property is situated about six miles and a half from Waimate
and one mile and a half from the Arno Railway-station by good
roads. The soil is of light to medium quality. Altitude up to
1,200 ft. above sea-level. The property is mostly steep and broken
by gullies ; well watered by creeks and springs. Suitable for
sheep-grazing.
*Improvements, which are the property of the Crown and
included in the capital value for rental purposes, are as follows :—
Section 1.—Half value 92 chains fencing north boundary
(post, wire, and iron standards); half value 16 chains fencing on
east boundary (gorse) ; half value 24 chains fencing on east boundary
(post, wire, and standards) ; full value 38 chains road-fencing on
west boundary (post and wire). Valued at £52.
Section 2.—176 chains fencing (gorse on south and west boundary
adjoining R.S. 19342 and wire on west boundary adjoining road
and R.S. 28789 and on east boundary adjoining Section 3). Valued
at £36.
Section 36.—43 chains road-boundary fencing (six plain and
one barb, posts, and standards) ; half value 120 chains party-
boundary fencing (six plain and one barb, posts, and standards) ;
134 chains subdivisional fencing (mixed post, standards, wire, and
netting) ; planting, £10 ; sheep-yards, £5. Valued at £90. Total
value, £178.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICES.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Hokitika, 23rd December, 1942.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase
of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office
of the State Forest Service, Hokitika, at 4 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday,
20th January, 1943.
SCHEDULE.
WESTLAND CONSERVANCY.—WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.
ALL the milling-timber on that piece of land containing 144 acres,
situated in Block XV, Mawheranui Survey District, State Forest
No. 33, approximately nine miles from Kotuku Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 163,300,
or in board feet 965,000, made up as follows :—

Time for removal : One year.
Terms of Payment.
A marked cheque for a deposit of £225, together with £1 ls.
license fee, must accompany the tender, and balance be paid in
five equal monthly instalments, the first of which shall be made one
month after the date of sale.

Special Condition.
The successful tenderer shall be liable for payment for any
damage caused by fire on the above-mentioned area during the term
of the license.
Terms and Conditions.
-
All instalment-payments shall be secured by "on demand"
promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the
Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent.
per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged
on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment. -
The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in
accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921–22, the
regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions. -
The aforementioned quality, quantity, and kind as to the
said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes
of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor
shall the successful purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price
by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, or kind
as stated herein or in any advertisement having reference to the said
timber. -
A return giving the number of logs cut of each species and
their contents must be made quarterly by the licensee on the last
days of March, June, September, and December, respectively, in
each year. A return must also be made on the same dates showing
the output of sawn timber of each species. These returns may be
ascertained and verified by inspection of the books of the mill, or by
such other means as the Conservator may require, and for this
purpose the accounts and books shall be open to the inspection of
the Conservator, a Forest Ranger, or other duly authorized officer. -
The attention of all tenderers is drawn to the fact that the
local controlling body may require the successful tenderer to pay
any claims or charges which may be made by that body for the
maintenance of the road over which the timber may be transported,
and before a sawmill license is issued a letter indicating that satis-
factory arrangements have been made in this connection must be
produced to the undersigned. -
Intending buyers are expected to visit the locality and to
satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relative to
the sale. -
Each tenderer must state the total price that he is prepared
to pay for the timber. The highest or any tender will not necessarily
be accepted, and the timber described is submitted for sale subject
to the final acceptance of the tender by the Commissioner of State
Forests. -
The right is reserved to the Commissioner of State Forests
to withdraw from sale any or all of the said timber either before or
after the closing date for receipt of tenders. -
If no tender is accepted for the timber herein mentioned it
will remain open for application for three months from the closing
date of tenders. -
Tenders should be on the special form obtainable from any
office of the State Forest Service, and should be enclosed in envelopes
addressed “Conservator of Forests, Hokitika,” and endorsed
“Tender for Timber.”
The conditions, which will be inserted in the license to be
issued to the purchaser, and further particulars may be obtained on
application to the undersigned or to the Director of Forestry,
Wellington.

situated in Block X, Hohonu Survey District, State Forest No. 31,
approximately fifteen miles from Kumara Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 540,800,
or in board feet 3,413,000, made up as follows :—

of the license.
