Notice to Persons affected by Applications for Licenses under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.
Manufacture for Sale of Footwear.
An application has been received from W. E. Clare, 342 Dominion Road, Auckland, for an extension of his existing license to permit the manufacture of maids’ footwear, 11–7, by the machine-sewn, cemented, and fairstitch methods.
Taking of Fish for Sale.
Applications to take fish for sale have been received from C. J. Alcock, Rita Street, Mount Maunganui, Tauranga by means of the fishing-vessel “Virginia” (not yet registered), using drag-nets, long lines, hand-lines, and crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Tauranga; and from Caesar Roose, Mercer, by means of the fishing-vessel “Tere” (not yet registered), using Danish seine nets, long lines and hand-lines, catches to be landed at Port Waikato.
Any persons who consider they will be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau of Industry on these applications, and who wish to make representations accordingly, must furnish them in writing not later than the 20th August, 1942.

Information concerning Lights.
(1) Lighted Buoys established.
Position : 270°, 4,700 ft. from Bean Rock Lighthouse. Lat., 36° 50′ S.; long., 174° 50′ E. (approx.).
Abridged description : Occ. ev. 2 sec.
Details : A red buoy exhibiting an occulting white light every 2 sec., eclipse 1 sec., has been established in this position.
Position : 263½°, 4,350 ft. from Bean Rock Lighthouse.
Abridged description : Occ. R. ev. 2 sec.
Details : A black buoy exhibiting an occulting red light every 2 sec., eclipse 1 sec., has been established in this position.
Note.—All vessels entering or leaving the harbour must pass between these two buoys.
(2) Light re-established.
Previous notice : No. 15 of 1942 hereby cancelled.
Position : 076°, 2,950 ft. from Devonport Sandspit beacon. Lat., 36° 50′ S.; long., 174° 48′•5 E. (approx.).
Abridged description : Occ. G. ev. 12 sec.
Details : The occulting green light, every 12 sec., eclipse 6 sec., has been re-established on a pile beacon.
(3) Temporary Lighted Buoy removed.
Position : 265°, 3,300 ft. from Bean Rock Lighthouse.
Details : The temporary red buoy with occulting green light has been removed.

IT is hereby notified that at the annual meeting of the Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand, held on the 20th May, 1942—
Lindsay Heathcote Briggs, D.Sc. (N.Z.), D.Phil. (Oxon), F.N.Z.I.C., F.C.S., and
Leslie Issott Grange, D.Sc., A.O.S.M.,
were duly elected Fellows of the Royal Society of New Zealand.

Rules of the Royal Society of New Zealand amended.
IT is hereby notified that at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Royal Society of New Zealand, held on the 14th July, 1942, the following amendments and additions to the Rules of the Royal Society of New Zealand, published in New Zealand Gazette No. 84 of the 14th November, 1935, were made :-
SECTION G. 1.—FELLOWS.
(Rule 6 (b).)
After the words “their choice of” insert the words “the required number of,” and add the following : “Failure to vote for the full number will render the voting paper informal.”

SECTION F. 1.—HUTTON MEMORIAL MEDAL AND RESEARCH FUND.
(Rule 5.)
Add the following :—
“The Council shall appoint a committee consisting, if possible, of three holders of the award representative of the three sciences concerned (zoology, botany, geology) to recommend each award. This committee shall meet, the cost of one meeting to be a charge on the Hutton Fund.
SECTION F. IV.—THE T. K. SIDEP SUMMER TIME FUND.
(Rule 1.)
Add the following :—
“Copies of the notice shall be distributed to societies and institutions, the names of which appear on a list approved by the Council.”
Add the following new rule :—
“Rule 7. If no award be made on any given occasion, a general notice shall immediately be distributed in the same manner as in Rule 1. This notice shall indicate the purposes of the award, the subject-matter of the research, the qualifications required of applicants, and the probable date of the next award. The date of such award shall be considered within a period not exceeding two years of such notice.”

Rules relating to Plant Diseases Trust adopted by the Royal Society of New Zealand.
IT is hereby notified that at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Royal Society of New Zealand, held on the 14th July, 1942, the following rules under which grants from the Plant Diseases Trust shall be made were adopted :—
F. VII.—RULES RELATING TO PLANT DISEASES TRUST.
- Grants from the Trust shall be in accordance with the terms set out in the Declaration of Trust, and shall be made by the Standing Committee of the Council at any of its regular meetings, or by the Council at its annual meeting.
- Except under special circumstances grants shall be made from the income only derived from the Trust Fund.
- Member bodies shall be asked to draw the attention of their members at the beginning of each year to the existence of the fund.
- Every candidate for a grant shall send to the Secretary of the Society an application for such grant, together with a statement of the purpose for which it is proposed to utilize the grant, the amount desired, and the qualifications of the candidate to carry out the work.
- Persons qualified to apply for a grant shall be—
(a) Botanists or zoologists not on the staff of the Plant Research Bureau of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research wishing to carry out work at the Plant Diseases Division headquarters or subsidiary stations :
(b) Botanists or zoologists, whether on the regular staff of the Plant Research Bureau or not, wishing to perform field-work in aid of the Division, and needing assistance for travelling-expenses :
(c) The Director of the Plant Diseases Division of the Plant Research Bureau, on his own behalf or on behalf of any botanist or zoologist, for any specified project that is a legitimate activity of his Division. - The Standing Committee or the Council at its annual meeting shall, if it deems necessary or advisable, consult the Director of the Plant Diseases Division in determining whether to make a grant to any candidate or not.
- Every recipient of a grant shall report to the Council, through its Secretary, within a month after the completion of the work, showing how the grant has been expended. His report shall be accompanied by one from the Director of the Plant Diseases Division.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned property is open for selection on optional tenures under the Land Act, 1924 ; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Monday, 24th August, 1942.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, on Wednesday, 26th August, 1942, at 10.30 o'clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
