under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.
Taking of Fish for Sale.
A PPLICATIONS have been received from P. Watson,
223 Hastings Street, Napier, for a variation in the
conditions attached to his Industrial Fishing License so as
to permit of the fishing-vessel “Akina” being re-engaged
in the industry, using trawl-nets, and consequentially for
conditions applicable to Industrial Fishing Licenses in respect
of the “Olive,” NR. 39, to be varied so as to exclude the
use of Danish seine-nets.
Any person who considers he will be materially affected
by the decision of the Bureau of Industry on these applications,
and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must
furnish them in writing not later than the 9th July, 1942.

for a variation in the conditions of his Industrial
Fishing License so as to permit the use of trawl-nets on the
fishing-vessel “Rover,” NR. 51, catches to be landed at
Napier. (NOTE.—Industrial Fishing Licenses issued in
respect of the “Ruby,” NR. 58, using trawl-nets, have been
withdrawn by consent.)
Any person who considers he will be materially affected
by the decision of the Bureau of Industry on this application,
and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must
furnish them in writing not later than the 9th July, 1942.

A N application has been received from Waitemata Fisheries,
Ltd., for a variation in the conditions of its Industrial
Fishing License so as to enable the company—
(a) To operate steam- or Diesel-engined trawlers (to be
commissioned), using trawl-nets, set-nets, and long
lines ;
(b) To install a cannery on board one or more of these
vessels for the canning of fish to be carried out
anywhere afloat in New Zealand waters ; and
(c) To operate a steam- or Diesel-engined fishing-vessel (to
be constructed), using Danish seine-nets, set-nets,
and long lines on the west coast of the North Island,
catches to be landed at Raglan and Kawhia.
Any person who considers he will be materially affected
by the decision of the Bureau of Industry on this application,
and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must
furnish them in writing not later than the 9th July, 1942.

A N application has been received from New Zealand
Indentors, Ltd., Grove Buildings, Auckland, for an
extension of their existing license to permit the use of the
cemented and Veldtschoen methods in the manufacture of
children’s footwear, 0–9.
Any person who considers he will be materially affected
by the decision of the Bureau of Industry on this application,
and who wishes to make representations accordingly, must

By-laws regulating Traffic on certain Main Highways Bridges.
I N pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by
section 9 of the Main Highways Act, 1922, and by section
155 of the Public Works Act, 1928, the Main Highways
Board doth hereby make the following by-law in respect of
the bridges set out in the Schedule hereto, and doth hereby
declare that the said by-law shall come into force on the 29th
day of June, 1942.
BY-LAW.
- (a) No person shall drive or cause or permit to be driven
or allow any cattle in excess of forty at any given time to pass
along or over any of the bridges described in the Schedule
hereto.
(b) Cattle includes any bull, cow, ox, steer, heifer, or calf.
- (a) Every person who does or causes or procures to be
done anything contrary to the terms of this by-law shall be
guilty of an offence.
(b) Every person guilty of an offence against this by-law
shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five (£5) pounds for each
such offence.

a meeting of the Main Highways Board held at Wellington on
the 17th day of June, 1942.

The Canterbury Aerated-water and Cordial Workers’ and
Brewery and Bottling House Workers’ Labour Legislation
Suspension Order 1942.
I N pursuance of the Labour Legislation Emergency Regula-
tions 1940, the Minister of Labour doth hereby order
as follows :—

This Order may be cited as the Canterbury Aerated-
water and Cordial Workers’ and Brewery and Bottling
House Workers’ Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1942. -
This Order applies to Ballins Breweries (N.Z.), Ltd.,
Christchurch, and to the adult male workers who are employed
by the said company and whose employment is subject to
the Canterbury Aerated-water and Cordial Workers’ award
dated the 11th day of July, 1940, and recorded in 40 Book
of Awards 961, or the New Zealand (except Nelson and
Otago and Southland) Brewery and Bottling House Workers’
award dated the 7th day of October, 1941, and recorded
in 41 Book of Awards 1347. -
The provisions of the awards referred to in clause 2
hereof shall be and are hereby suspended in so far as they
operate to restrict or prevent the employment of the workers
referred to in the said clause 2 on shift-work between the
hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. from Monday to Friday inclusive,
subject, however, to the terms and conditions hereinafter
set forth. -
Two shifts shall be worked each day, the early shift
from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the late shift from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. -
Shifts shall be rotated.

Each worker shall receive in addition to his ordinary
wages the sum of 3s. per shift when employed on the early
shift and the sum of 4s. per shift when employed on the
late shift. -
Any worker employed for three or less shifts in any
week shall be paid at overtime rates for the whole of such
shifts. -
In each shift there shall be a compulsory break of not
less than fifteen minutes in addition to the usual “smoke-ohs,”
the workers to be paid as for eight hours’ work. -
No youth shall be employed on shift-work.

This Order shall come into effect on the day of the
date hereof.
