Notice of Intention to take Land for Housing Purposes in Block IX, Belmont Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, and section 32 of the Statutes Amendment Act, 1936, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for housing purposes: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Lower Hutt and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block IX, Moeraki Survey District, for Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road—and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Hampden and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 26·4 perches.

Situated in Block IX, Moeraki Survey District (Otago R.D.). (S.O. M 152.)

The Sandbag Manufacturing Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1942.

WHEREAS it appears to me to be necessary for securing the public safety, the defence of New Zealand, the efficient prosecution of any war in which His Majesty may be engaged, and for maintaining supplies and services essential to the life of the community, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, pursuant to the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, do hereby order as follows:—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Sandbag Manufacturing Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1942.

  2. This Order applies to Messrs. McKendrick Bros., Ltd., Auckland, and to the workers employed by that company in the manufacture of sandbags.

  3. The provisions of all Acts and all regulations thereunder, and of all awards and industrial agreements under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925, and of all other voluntary agreements affecting conditions of employment shall be and are hereby suspended in so far as they operate to restrict or prevent the employment of female workers on shift-work between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. from Monday to Friday inclusive, subject, however, to the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth.

  4. Two shifts shall be worked each day, the morning shift from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a break of half an hour for a meal, and the afternoon shift from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. with a break of half an hour for a meal, meal intervals on both shifts to be paid for.

  5. Shifts shall be rotated.

  6. Adult male workers shall be paid at the rate of £5 per week of forty hours, and female workers commencing at the work shall be paid at the rate of £2 10s. per week of forty hours with an increase to £3 per week after two months’ experience, and thereafter not less than £3 per week.

  7. The rates provided in clause 6 hereof for female workers shall be subject to the provisions of the general order of the Court of Arbitration dated 9th August, 1940, made in pursuance of the Rates of Wages Emergency Regulations 1940, increasing rates of remuneration by an amount equal to five per cent. thereof, and the rates provided in clause 6 hereof for both male and female workers shall be subject to the provisions of any other general order that may hereafter be made by the Court of Arbitration in pursuance of the said regulations.

  8. Each adult male worker shall receive in addition to his ordinary wages the sum of 2s. per shift when employed on the afternoon shift, and each female worker shall receive in addition to her ordinary wages the sum of 2s. 6d. per week extra when employed on the morning shift and the sum of 2s. per shift extra when employed on the afternoon shift.

  9. This Order shall come into effect on the day of the date hereof.
