Notice of Intention to take Land in the City of Christchurch for Housing Purposes.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, and section 32 of the Statutes Amendment Act, 1936, to take the land described in the Schedule here-to for housing purposes: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Christchurch and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken: 23·5 perches.

Being part Rural Section 161 (City of Christchurch) (Canterbury R.D.).

In the Canterbury Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 115868, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Election of European Member of the Rarotonga Island Council.

Cook Islands Department,

Wellington, 11th December, 1942.

IT is hereby notified that, in pursuance of the regulations for the election of a European member of the Rarotonga Island Council, Mr. Samuel Bennett, of Avarua, Trader, was duly elected as the European member of the Island Council of Rarotonga on the 23rd day of September, 1942.

Authorizing the Laying-off of a Road of less Width than 66 ft.

WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of Tauranga Extension No. 43 affecting Lot 1 on D.P. 29548, being portion of Section 5, Block X, Tauranga Survey District, Auckland Land District, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that the proposed road shown thereon as Tanner Street should be of the width of 66 ft.:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the power conferred upon him by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of every other power him thereunto enabling, the Minister of Lands doth hereby authorize the laying-off of Tanner Street of a width of not less than 50 ft.: Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.

Given under the hand of the Minister of Lands, this 18th day of December, 1942.

Kaitaia Drainage Area.—Notice of making and levying General Rates.

I, JAMES GILLISPIE BARCLAY, acting for the Minister of Lands, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, do hereby make and levy on the unimproved value of all land within the Kaitaia Town District Subdivision of the Kaitaia Drainage Area, constituted under the said Act, a general rate described in the First Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land in the subdivision of the Kaitaia Drainage Area outside the Kaitaia Town District the general rates described in the Second Schedule hereto, such respective rates being for the purpose of meeting maintenance-costs for the period from the 1st April, 1942, to the 31st March, 1943.

The said rates, together with the annually recurring special rates already made and levied, will be payable in one sum on the 21st December, 1942, to the Collector of Rates, at the Chief Drainage Engineer's Office, Room 45, 1st Floor, Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland, at which office the rate-book will be available for inspection. A copy of the rate-book will be available for inspection at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer at Kaitaia.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

TOWN SUBDIVISION.

On the unimproved value of all land within the Kaitaia Town District, sixty-six one-hundredths of a penny (0·66d.) in the pound.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

RURAL SUBDIVISION.

Class A.—On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928, eighteen-pence and fifty-three one-hundredths of a penny (18·53d.) in the pound. Class B.—On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class B, sixpence and forty-nine one-hundredths of a penny (6·49d.) in the pound. Class C.—On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C, twopence and seventy-eight one-hundredths of a penny (2·78d.) in the pound.

Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1942.—Declaration of Essential Industry (No. 109).

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by Regulation 11 of the Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1942, the Minister of Industrial Man-power doth hereby declare all work that comes within any of the classes of work, except picture-frame making, specified in the New Zealand Furniture-trade Employees' Award, including the manufacture of pillow-cases and mattress-cases, and including also sewing and other work connected with upholstered furniture, to be an essential industry for the purposes of those regulations.
