HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments and promotions in the Royal New Zealand Navy:—

Lieutenant-Commander Alexander David Boyle, Royal Navy; granted the rank of Acting-Commander, Royal New Zealand Navy, whilst holding present appointment (to continue to receive pay and allowances as Lieutenant-Commander), to date 8th December, 1941.

Lieutenant Ernest Savage, Royal Navy, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, on relief (date to be reported).

Acting-Lieutenant George Raymond Davis-Goff, confirmed in rank with seniority of 21st August, 1936.

Temporary Acting Lieutenant-Commander Thomas Sandford Critchley, granted the rank of Temporary Acting Commander whilst holding present appointment (to continue to receive pay and allowances as Lieutenant-Commander), to date 23rd December, 1941.

Mr. Thomas George Edward Hallin, Warrant Engineer, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” on relief, vice Pearse (date to be reported).

Mr. Thomas Alexander Pearse, Temporary Acting Warrant Mechanician, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Leander,” vice Hallin (date to be reported).

Roy Ernest Ansley, Chief Petty Officer, N.Z.D. 642, promoted to the rank of Acting Gunner (T), to date 12th December, 1941, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Leander,” vice Savage, to date 10th January, 1942.

Thomas Brown, Acting Electrical Artificer, 4th Class, N.Z.D. 1989, promoted to the rank of Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (Special Branch), Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, to date 1st January, 1942, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, as Degaussing Officer, Auckland, vice Minchall, to date 1st January, 1942.

Sub-Lieutenant Eric Primrose Chapman, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and reappointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, to date 4th December, 1941.

Probationary Temporary Lieutenant Vincent Stanislaus Hamill, confirmed in rank with original seniority of 18th November, 1941.

Temporary Lieutenant Arthur Eric Webster (T. 124), appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “James Cosgrove,” to date 15th December, 1941.

Temporary Lieutenant Arthur Homewood Hyde (T. 124), appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “South Sea,” vice Smith, to date 28th December, 1941, and H.M.N.Z.S. “South Sea,” as First Lieutenant, temporary, to date 5th January, 1942.

Temporary Sub-Lieutenant Benjamin Cyril Roberts (T. 124), appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Matai” for Flotilla duties, to date 1st January, 1942.

Hugh Alfred Hill, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Lieutenant, to date 8th December, 1941, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, for Naval Control Service duties, Auckland, to date 8th December, 1941.

Robert Dalrymple Stewart, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Lieutenant, to date 20th December, 1941, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, for duty at Navy Office, Wellington, as Merchant Shipping Officer, to date 20th December, 1941.

Charles Dalrymple Watt, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Lieutenant, to date 5th January, 1942, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, for training in Naval Control Service duties, Auckland, to date 5th January, 1942.

James Duncan, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Lieutenant (to serve under T. 124 XV Agreement), to date 15th December, 1941, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, for duty as Assistant Examining Officer, Lyttelton, vice Pearson, to date 15th December, 1941.

Josiah Herd, Esquire, entered as Temporary Skipper (to serve under T. 124 XV Agreement), for duty as spare Skipper for Examination Service Vessels, to date 17th December, 1941, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, for H.M.N.Z.S. “Janie Seddon,” temporary, vice Barr, to date 17th December, 1941.

Lieutenant Commander George Edwin Lisle Alderton, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, as District Intelligence Officer, Auckland, in continuation, and as Naval Liaison Officer for No. 1 Military District, vice Garner, to date 17th November, 1941.

Lieutenant-Commander Alister Barclay Gilfillan, granted the status of “Qualified Officer,” to date 4th December, 1941.

Lieutenant-Commander William Henry Minchall, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, for (T) course in Australia, to date 1st January, 1942.

Lieutenant Henry Lester Hudson, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” additional, for duty with the Fiji Naval Volunteer Force, to date 12th December, 1941.

Lieutenant Cyril Howard Hilliard, appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Muritai” as First Lieutenant, temporary, vice Hudson, to date 9th December, 1941, and H.M.N.Z.S. “James Cosgrove” on relief (date to be reported).
