Hutchinson has been appointed to the position of Agent of
the Public Trust Office at Kaikohe.

AS in previous years, cards were sent out by post to grain-growers
and to potato-growers throughout the Dominion asking them
to state what areas they had sown or planted, or intended to sow or
plant, in wheat, oats, barley, and potatoes this season. It may be
well to note that only holdings of 1 acre and over outside borough
boundaries are covered by the figures appearing below. In the case
of potatoes a fair amount is grown on the smaller holdings and on
holdings situated within boroughs.

Notice to Persons affected by an Application for a License under
Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.

Taking of Fish for Sale.

AN application has been received from A. L. Clark, Port Chalmers,
for a license to take fish for sale by means of the fishing-
vessel “Valerie II,” using long lines, hand-lines, set-nets, drag-
nets, and crayfish-pots, catches to be landed at Port Chalmers.

Any person who considers he will be materially affected by the
decision of the Bureau of Industry on this application, and who
wishes to make representations accordingly, must furnish them in
writing not later than the 10th December, 1942.

Sawmilling Industry (Christmas Holidays) Notice 1942.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in pursuance of the Industrial
Man-power Emergency Regulations 1942, the Timber Controller hereby requires and directs as follows:—

  1. This notice may be cited as the Sawmilling Industry (Christmas Holidays) Notice 1942.
  2. Except with the prior consent of the Timber Controller every undertaking in the sawmilling industry shall in the week commencing the 21st December, 1942, be operated until the usual closing-hour on Wednesday, the 23rd December, 1942.
  3. Except with the prior consent of the Timber Controller every undertaking in the sawmilling industry shall in the week commencing the 4th January, 1943, be operated from a time which is not later than the usual commencing-time on the 5th January, 1943.
  4. All notices previously given, or deemed to have been given, by the Timber Controller under the Industrial Man-power Emergency Regulations 1942 which have the effect of requiring any undertaking in the sawmilling industry to work any specified number of hours in each week shall not apply in respect of the weeks commencing the 21st December, 1942, the 28th December, 1942, and the 4th January, 1943.

Timber Control Notice No. 51.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in pursuance of the Supply Control Emergency Regulations 1939 and the Timber Emergency Regulations 1939, I, Alexander Robert Entrican, Timber Controller, hereby require and direct as follows:—

  1. This notice may be cited as the Timber Control Notice No. 51.
  2. This notice shall come into force on the day following publication thereof in the Gazette.
  3. Without the precedent consent of the Timber Controller no proprietor or owner, within the meaning of the said regulations, of any insignis pine (Pinus radiata) timber shall saw or otherwise convert, or use, sell, supply, dispose of, or part with the possession of the same except for the manufacture of wooden containers.
  4. No person shall purchase, agree to purchase, offer to purchase, or otherwise acquire from any proprietor or owner any insignis pine (Pinus radiata) timber for purposes other than the manufacture of wooden containers except with the precedent consent of the Timber Controller.
  5. Timber Control Notice No. 49, published in the Gazette on the 30th July, 1942, at page 1975, is hereby revoked.
