Appointments, Promotions, and Relinquishments of Temporary
Rank of Officers on Active Service with the 2nd New
Zealand Expeditionary Force Overseas.

Wellington, 21st November, 1941.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
and relinquishments of temporary rank of officers on active
service with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force
overseas, vide List No. 44:—

APPOINTMENTS.

Commands and Staff.

Lieutenant-Colonel (temp. Brigadier) A. S. Wilder, D.S.O.,
M.C., V.D., Commanding Training Group, Maadi Camp,
relinquishes the additional appointment of Commandant,
Maadi Camp, on return of Brigadier A. S. Falconer, D.S.O.,
M.C., from hospital. Dated 15th October, 1941.

Colonel K. L. Stewart, O.B.E., relinquishes the appointment
of General Staff Officer, 1st Grade, 2nd N.Z. Division, on
being placed on the New Zealand Roll. Dated 20th October,
1941.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Gentry, N.Z. Engineers, relin-
quishes the appointment of Assistant Adjutant and Quarter-
master-General, 2nd N.Z. Division, and is appointed General
Staff Officer, 1st Grade, 2nd N.Z. Division, and remains
seconded. Dated 20th October, 1941.

Lieutenant-Colonel G. H. Clifton, M.C., N.Z. Engineers,
relinquishes the appointment of C.R.E., 2nd N.Z. Division,
and is seconded for special duty with a Corps, Middle East
Forces. Dated 18th October, 1941.

Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M.C., E.D., 19th
(Wellington) Battalion, relinquishes command of the Battalion
on being placed on the New Zealand Roll. Dated 20th
October, 1941.

Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) S. M. Satterthwaite,
Central Infantry, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant
Adjutant-General, 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is appointed
General Staff Officer (Staff Duties), 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary
Force, and remains seconded. Dated 18th October, 1941.

Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) D. T. Maxwell, Southern
Infantry, is appointed Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster-
General, 2nd N.Z. Division, and remains seconded. Dated
20th October, 1941.

Major S. F. Hartnell, Central Infantry, relinquishes the
appointment of second in command, 19th (Wellington)
Battalion, and is appointed to command 19th (Wellington)
Battalion. Dated 20th October, 1941.

Major R. V. Closey, E.D., Northern Infantry, relinquishes
command of the N.Z. Reception Depot, is appointed to
command 1st N.Z. Field Maintenance Centre, and is seconded.
Dated 18th October, 1941.

Major F. W. Huggins, E.D., Southern Infantry, is appointed
to command 2nd N.Z. Field Maintenance Centre, and is
seconded. Dated 18th October, 1941.

Major G. J. O. Stewart, N.Z. Artillery, is appointed second in
command, N.Z. Artillery Training Depot. Dated 12th
October, 1941.

Major J. O. Kelcey, N.Z. Ordnance Corps, relinquishes the
appointment of Deputy Assistant Director of Ordnance
Services (E), 2nd N.Z. Division, and is appointed Chief
Ordnance Mechanical Engineer, 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary
Force. Dated 18th August, 1941.

Major N. P. Manning, N.Z. Ordnance Corps, relinquishes
the appointment of Senior Ordnance Mechanical Engineer,
Maadi Camp. Dated 8th October, 1941.

Captain R. R. Atkinson, 2nd N.Z. Divisional Cavalry, is
appointed Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General, 2nd N.Z.
Expeditionary Force, and remains seconded. Dated 30th
September, 1941.

Captain J. E. F. Vogel, Central Infantry, relinquishes the
appointment of Staff Captain, N.Z. Training Group, Maadi
Camp, is seconded for special duties with an Army, Middle
East Forces, as a Staff Captain (Q), and remains seconded.
Dated 20th October, 1941.

Captain S. W. Nicholson, N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes the
appointment of Staff Captain, Headquarters, N.Z. Divisional
Artillery, and ceases to be seconded. Dated 25th October,
1941.

Lieutenant J. M. D. McCredie, N.Z. Artillery, relinquishes
the appointment of Staff Lieutenant, Headquarters, N.Z.
Artillery, and ceases to be seconded. Dated 1st September,
1941.

Lieutenant D. W. E. Nelligan, N.Z. Artillery, is appointed
Staff Lieutenant, Headquarters, N.Z. Divisional Artillery,
and is seconded. Dated 1st September, 1941.

Lieutenant J. M. D. McCredie, N.Z. Artillery, is appointed
Staff Captain, Headquarters, N.Z. Divisional Artillery, and
is seconded. Dated 25th October, 1941.

Lieutenant H. G. A. Claridge, N.Z. Engineers, is appointed
to command No. 1 N.Z. Water Issue Section, and is seconded.
Dated 18th October, 1941.

Lieutenant G. A. Possin, Central Infantry, is appointed
Staff Captain (temp.), N.Z. Training Group, Maadi Camp,
and is seconded. Dated 20th October, 1941.

temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while commanding a
Battalion, vice Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M.C., E.D.

Major F. M. H. Hanson, M.M., N.Z. Engineers, is granted
the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while acting as
