appointments in the Public Service:—
Charles Crandell Crosby
to be an Inspector of Machinery for the purposes of the
Inspection of Machinery Act, 1928, and a Surveyor of Ships
for the purposes of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, on
and from the 29th day of October, 1941.
Constable Percival Kimberley
to be Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Courts at Papakura for the
purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, on and from
the 1st day of November, 1941.

Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Wellington) Order No. 2, 1940,
Amendment No. 2.
PURSUANT to the Oil Fuel Retail Hours Emergency
Regulations (No. 2), 1940, and pursuant to the powers
in that behalf therein contained, I, David Wilson, acting
for the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct as follows:—
-
This Order may be cited as the Oil Fuel Retail Hours
(Wellington) Order, No. 2, 1940, Amendment No. 2. -
This Order shall be read together with and deemed
part of the Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Wellington) Order No. 2,
1940, hereinafter referred to as the “principal Order.” -
This Order shall come into force on the day of the
date hereof. -
The principal Order is hereby modified by deleting
from clause 8 thereof the words “C. E. Fisher’s V.I.C. Service
Station,” and substituting therefor the words “E. Macdonald,
Valley and Bay Motors.”

Building Construction Control Notice No. 5, 1941.
PURSUANT to the Supply Control Emergency Regulations
1939, and the Building Emergency Regulations 1939, I
hereby direct as follows:—
(1) Except with the precedent consent of the Building
Controller no person shall use copper or brass sheets
for any building or constructional purpose otherwise
than for the manufacture of washing-coppers,
hot-water cylinders, and drainage-vent stacks.
(2) Building Construction Control Notice No. 1, 1941, is
hereby consequentially amended by revoking
paragraph (2) thereof.

Note.—“Construction work” includes—
(a) The construction, extension, or alteration of any
building or other erection;
(b) The fabrication of materials for the purposes of any
kind of constructional work hereinbefore mentioned
whether carried on at the site or elsewhere.
Declaring Places to be Prohibited Places under the Defence
Emergency Regulations 1941.
PURSUANT to the Defence Emergency Regulations 1941,
the Minister of Defence doth hereby declare the place
specified in the Schedule hereto to be a prohibited place
for the purposes of the Defence Emergency Regulations
1941.
SCHEDULE.
DEFENCE AREA ON MAINLAND ADJACENT TO RIPA ISLAND.
All that area in the Canterbury Land District adjacent to
Ripa Island, and being Rural Section 181, part Rural Sec-
tion 202, and part of the one chain coastal road, situated in
Block I, Pigeon Bay Survey District, and bounded as follows:
Commencing at a point on the coast-line of Lyttelton Harbour,
the said point being in line with the production in a south-
westery direction of the south-eastern boundary of Rural
Section 181; thence north-westerly, north-easterly, and
south-easterly by the said coast-line to a point in
line with the production in a north-easterly direction of a
fence-line on a bearing of approximately 8°; thence south-
westery by that line of production and the said fence-line
bearing 188°, a total distance of approximately 2125 links
to the angle in the fence-line; thence from the angle south-
westery on a bearing of approximately 237½° along the
fence-line and its production to the coast-line, a distance of
approximately 1225 links; thence westerly generally along
the said coast-line to the point of commencement. As the
same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked
Army P.P. 48/205/3/1, deposited at Army Headquarters,
Wellington, and thereon bordered red.
CORRIGENDUM.
With reference to the Order published in New Zealand
Gazette No. 70, dated 21st August, 1941, the description of
the Maori Head Defence Area is hereby cancelled and the
following substituted:—
Maori Head Defence Area.
All that land known as Sections 19, 20, 24, 1404a, and
1406a, and parts of Sections 4 and 14, Block VII, Otago
Peninsula Survey District, and also part Section 1 and part
1405a, Block I, Tomahawk Survey District, bounded gener-
ally on the north and north-east by a road, on the east by
Section 38, Block I, Otago Peninsula Survey District, on
the south and south-west by the Pacific Ocean, and on the
west by Tomahawk Creek. As the same is more particularly
delineated on plan marked Army P.P. 29/205/3/1, deposited
in the Office of Army Headquarters, Wellington, and thereon
coloured red.
Dated at Wellington this 12th day of November, 1941.
