in terms of section 26 of the Rating Act, 1925, to
appoint—

Stipendiary Magistrate, of Auckland, to be Judge of the
Assessment Courts for the Auckland districts.

Appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments and pro-
motions in the Royal New Zealand Navy:—

Commander Morgan John Yeatman, Royal Navy, lent
Royal New Zealand Navy, to date 23rd August, 1941, and
as Second Naval Member of the New Zealand Naval Board,
vice Fanshawe. (Date to be reported.)

Lieutenant Harold James Taylor, Royal Navy (Retired),
lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z.S.
“Philomel II” additional, for duty at Navy Office, Welling-
ton, to date 13th October, 1941.

Peter Drummond Allan entered as Naval Cadet, to date
25th November, 1940, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”
additional, for training in the United Kingdom.

Edward Tracy Fletcher Millett, Petty Officer Driver,
promoted to the rank of Probationary Temporary Sub-
Lieutenant, Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve,
and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, for
Patrol Launches, to date 3rd October, 1941.

Langman Joseph Henley, Petty Officer Driver, promoted
to the rank of Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant,
Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, and appointed
H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, for Patrol Launches,
to date 3rd October, 1941.

Temporary Lieutenant Albert Michael Halliday appointed
H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional (not to join), for courses

Temporary Lieutenant Arthur Homewood Hyde (T. 124),
appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, as spare
officer for Port Mine-sweepers. (Date to be reported.)

Probationary Temporary Lieutenant George Leslie Almond
confirmed in rank, to date 26th August, 1941.

Sub-Lieutenant Eric Primrose Chapman appointed
H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel” additional, for duty with the

New Zealand Military Forces.

Wellington, 15th November, 1941.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
and transfers of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—

STAFF.

Lieutenant-Colonel (temp. Colonel) L. Potter, N.Z. Staff
Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Officer Commanding,
Central Field Force, and the temporary rank of Colonel on
being seconded to the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated
1st November, 1941.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

Lieutenant B. D. FitzGerald, Instructor, Artillery Wing,
Army School of Instruction, is appointed Chief Instructor,
Artillery Wing, Army School of Instruction, Trentham, and
is granted the temporary rank of Captain while so employed.
Dated 28th October, 1941.

Lieutenant Archibald Hugh Bogle, Retired List, to be
Captain (temp.), and is appointed Staff Officer (Fortifications),
Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 10th November,
1941.

John Edward McGowan Byrne to be Lieutenant (temp.),
and is appointed Christchurch Inspector, Empty Components
(Grenades, &c.), Army Inspection Department. Dated 5th
October, 1941.

2nd Lieutenant A. D. Shepherd, Sick and Wounded Officer,
Area No. 10, Christchurch, is granted the temporary rank of
Lieutenant. Dated 4th November, 1941.

2nd Lieutenant (temp.) G. Appleton, 21st Light Aid Detach-
ment, N.Z. Ordnance Corps, to be Lieutenant (temp.), and
is appointed District Workshops Officer, Northern Military
District, vice Lieutenant H. Jones, N.Z. Temporary Staff,
seconded to the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 5th
November, 1941.

QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED
RIFLES.

Herbert John Hayman to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), with
seniority next below 2nd Lieutenant (temp.) R. B. Fleming.
Dated 1st October, 1941.

THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.

2nd Lieutenant B. N. Thomas is granted the temporary
rank of Lieutenant. Dated 26th August, 1941.

N.Z. ARTILLERY.

Captain (temp.) C. M. Taylor, B.Sc., A.M.I.E.E.,
A.M.N.Z.I.E., from the Corps of N.Z. Engineers, to be
Captain (temp.), with seniority from 1st October, 1941, and
is posted to Headquarters, 9th Heavy Regiment, super-
numerary to establishment. Dated 1st October, 1941.
