Alterations to the Scale of Charges upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1926, and its amendments, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, Robert Semple, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges and to the Goods—Local Rates Scale of Charges made on the 13th day of April, 1939, and published in the Supplement dated the 19th day of April, 1939, to the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th day of April, 1939, in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic.

GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES.

LUGGAGE, PARCELS, ETC.

45. Checked Luggage.

Paragraph 1: By omitting from subparagraphs (b), (c), and (d) the words “booking agencies at Symonds Street (Auckland) and Karangahape Road (Auckland),” and substituting the words “booking agency at Karangahape Road (Auckland).”

Paragraph 1: By adding the following subparagraph :—

(cc) From Kaitaia to any station on the North or South Island Main Line and Branches or the Picton Section, and from any officered station on the North or South Island Main Line and Branches or the Picton Section, including the City Booking-offices at Courtenay Place (Wellington) and Christchurch and the booking agency at Karangahape Road (Auckland) to Kaitaia.

The checking of luggage from and to Kaitaia will be available only to passengers travelling by the Department’s road and rail passenger services via Otira Junction. Only passengers’ bona fide personal luggage (not including merchandise and other goods) will be accepted for checking. See also Regulation 46, paragraph 13A.

By adding the following new paragraph :—

11A. For each check issued for luggage to be conveyed between Kaitaia and stations on the North Island Main Line and Branches the charge will be 7d. For each check issued for luggage to be conveyed between Kaitaia and stations on the South Island Main Line and Branches or the Picton Section the charge will be 1s. 2d.

46. Excess Luggage.

By adding the following new paragraph :—

13A. Luggage checked from or to Kaitaia will be charged at the following rates for conveyance on the Kaitaia – Otira Junction road portion of the journey :—

Bona fide personal luggage up to 1 cwt. per adult passenger (children over three years and not exceeding twelve years of age, 56 lb.) .. Free.

Excess luggage not exceeding 28 lb. .. .. .. .. 1 9
Excess luggage not exceeding 56 lb. .. .. .. .. 3 0
Excess luggage not exceeding 84 lb. .. .. .. .. 4 6

GOODS, LIVE-STOCK, PARCELS, AND LUGGAGE.

68. Classification of Goods, Live-stock, &c.

Batteries, old, certified for scrap purposes only, owners to load and unload .. .. .. .. C less 50%
Borax, for use as an artificial manure. See Regulation 86 .. E

Earthenware figures and models. Owner’s risk .. .. C plus 50%
Empties, cylinders, not otherwise specified, not “returned empties,” but when full to be forwarded by rail. The full packages, &c., to be conveyed between the same stations and from original consignee to the original consignor as the empties. At rates for “returned empties,” see Regulation 88.
Figures and models, earthenware or plastic. Owner’s risk .. C plus 50%
