Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the Purposes of the Motor-Vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, Section 3.

IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, the Minister of Transport does hereby declare the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which the public have access therein, shall be subject to the maximum speed limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.

SCHEDULE.

SITUATED within Malvern, Paparua, and Springs Counties— All that area at Burnham, bounded to the north-west by a line at right-angles to Aylesbury Road at a distance of 45 chains measured along the centre-line of the said road in a north-westerly direction from its intersection with the centre-line of the Christchurch-Timaru Main Highway; bounded to the north-east by a line at right angles to the Christchurch-Timaru Main Highway at a distance of 20 chains measured along the centre-line of the said main highway in a north-easterly direction from its intersection with the centre-line of Aylesbury Road; bounded to the south-east by a line at right-angles to Burnham Road at a distance of 3 chains measured along the centre-line of the said road from its intersection with the centre-line of the Christchurch-Timaru Main Highway; and bounded to the south-west by a line at right angles to the Christchurch-Timaru Main Highway at a distance of 35 chains measured along the centre-line of the said main highway from its intersection with the centre-line of the Burnham Road, the boundaries of the whole area being indicated by a green border on the plan marked TT. 1664, and deposited in the office of the Transport Department at Wellington.

Approval of a Testing Officer under the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940.

IN terms of Regulation 5 of the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, the Minister of Transport does hereby approve, until further notice, of the person named in Column 2 of the Schedule hereunder being a Testing Officer under the said regulations for the authority specified in Column 1 of the said Schedule.

Exemption Order under the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940.

PURSUANT to the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, the Minister of Transport doth hereby order and declare that the provisions of clause (1) of Regulation 7 of the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, so far as they relate to drivers of heavy trade-motors, shall not apply to Edward Oliver Leith, of Wright's Bush, Southland.

By-law of the Hastings Fire Board approved.

Department of Internal Affairs,

Wellington, 5th July, 1941.

PURSUANT to section 60 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, I, William Edward Parry, being the Minister charged for the time being with the administration of the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, do hereby notify that approval has been given to a by-law, dated 19th June, 1941, made by the Hastings Fire Board, fixing charges in respect of fires outside the Fire District.

Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.). Air Commodore Hugh William Lumsden Saunders, M.C., D.F.C., M.M., R.A.F., of Wellington.

Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.). Lieutenant-Colonel Derisley Thayer Wood, of Whangarei.

By-laws under the Rotorua Borough Act, 1922.

WHEREAS by section 8 of the Rotorua Borough Act, 1922, the control and ownership of electric light and power for supply of electrical energy to the Borough of Rotorua is vested in the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts, as incorporated by the Rotorua Town Act, 1907, and the Rotorua Borough Act, 1922:

And whereas in respect of these works the said Department has all the power for the time being conferred by law on Borough Councils, except the power to borrow money or make and levy any special rate:

And whereas by the license granted by the Governor-General in Council, as published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th November, 1931, and 1st October, 1936, the said Department is authorized to generate electricity and erect electric lines within the Borough of Rotorua and portion of the County of Rotorua as set out in the Schedules to the said licenses:

Now, therefore, the said Department, in pursuance of such powers and all other powers thereunto enabling it, doth hereby revoke by-law No. 35 (i) of the by-laws published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 2nd February, 1939, and substitute therefor the following amended by-law, and doth hereby declare that such revocation shall take effect and such new by-law shall come into force on the 1st day of July, 1941:

By-law 35 (i):—Discount will be allowed on current accounts only, and is subject to the following conditions, namely:— (1) That the full amount of the account, including all arrears, is paid within fourteen days of the reading of the meter.

(2) Except that should the last day of the period allowed for discount be a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, discount shall be allowed on the working-day immediately following.

(3) In any case of hardship the Minister in Charge of the Department may allow discount if payment is made within seven days after the last ordinary day for the allowance of discount.
