Appointments and Promotions in the New Zealand Naval Forces.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments and promotions in the New Zealand Naval Forces:—

Acting Warrant Writer Owen Roland Skyrme, New Zealand Naval Forces, promoted to rank of Acting Paymaster Sub-Lieutenant, New Zealand Naval Forces, to date 1st May, 1941.

Chief Petty Officer Arthur Beevor Wilkinson, N.Z.D. 400, promoted to Temporary Acting Gunner, to date 6th May, 1941, and appointed to H.M.S. “Tamaki,” 6th May, 1941.

ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE (NEW ZEALAND).

Lieutenant-Commander (Acting Commander) Andrew Douglas Holden, promoted to rank of Commander, to date 30th June, 1940, and appointed H.M.S. “Matai” in command on commissioning, to date 1st April, 1941, and as Senior Officer, 25th Mine-sweeping Flotilla in continuation. (Amended orders.)

David Sutherland McClymont, Esquire, D.S.C., appointed Honorary Commander, to date 30th April, 1941. To act as Naval Authority in and for the Mandated Territory of Western Samoa.

Keith James Richard Wylie, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (E) (to serve under T. 124 agreement), to date 2nd May, 1941, and appointed H.M.S. “Matai,” to date 2nd May, 1941.

ROYAL NAVAL VOLUNTEER RESERVE (NEW ZEALAND).

Able Seaman Wilfred Harold Heath, A/1413, promoted to rank of Probationary Sub-Lieutenant, to date 11th May, 1941, and appointed H.M.S. “Matai” additional temporary for Fast Mine-sweepers, to date 11th May, 1941.

Signalman William Joseph Brown, O/7356, promoted to rank of Probationary Sub-Lieutenant, to date 12th May, 1941, and appointed H.M.S. “Matai” additional temporary for Fast Mine-sweepers, to date 12th May, 1941.

Anthony Ruthven Clarke, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant, to date 29th April, 1941, for service in Malaya.

Alexander Henry Yule, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant, to date 29th April, 1941, for service in Malaya.

Fred Taylor, Esquire, entered as Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant, to date 29th April, 1941, for service in Malaya.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, and transfers of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:—

STAFF.

Hon. Colonel J. Wood, C.M.G., relinquishes the appointment of Director of Works and the honorary rank of Colonel. Dated 28th February, 1941.

William Langston Newnham, A.M.I.C.E., is appointed Director of Fortifications and Works, and is granted the honorary rank of Colonel. Dated 1st March, 1941.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 24, dated 20th March, 1941, relative to Captain (temp. Major) R. J. Eyre, N.Z. Staff Corps, is hereby cancelled.

Lieutenant and Quartermaster (temp.) J. S. Thomson, N.Z. Permanent Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Chief Instructor, Weapon Training, Mobilization Camp, Papakura, and is appointed District Weapon Training Officer, Northern Military District. Dated 8th May, 1941.

N.Z. PERMANENT STAFF.

W.O. I (Staff Sergeant-Major) John Henry Kearney to be Lieutenant and Quartermaster (temp.), and is appointed Chief Instructor, Weapon Training, Mobilization Camp, Papakura, vice Lieutenant and Quartermaster (temp.) J. S. Thomson, N.Z. Permanent Staff. Dated 8th May, 1941.

N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.

Lieutenant D. Watson relinquishes the appointment of Company Commander, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, Wellington, and is attached temporarily to No. 5 Area, Wellington. Dated 2nd December, 1940.

CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.

2nd Lieutenant (temp.) P. L. Laing, 4th (Works) Company, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 1st April, 1941.

THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN).

The undermentioned officers, 3rd Battalion, are granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 1st May, 1941:—

Reginald Noble Hamlin to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 1st Battalion (Auckland). Dated 14th May, 1941.

N.Z. ARMY SERVICE CORPS.

Captain J. D. Swan, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain, is appointed Supply and Transport Officer, Northern Field Force, and is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 8th November, 1940.

Lieutenant R. V. McDowell, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Lieutenant, is appointed Supply and Transport Officer, Central Field Force, and is granted the temporary rank of Major. Dated 17th February, 1941.

Kyrle St. James Beehan to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 1st Reserve Mechanical Transport Company. Dated 1st April, 1941.

John Hamlin Buchanan to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 1st Reserve Mechanical Transport Company. Dated 10th May, 1941.

Ronald Rex Fenton to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 5th Composite Company. Dated 12th May, 1941.

N.Z. MEDICAL CORPS.

Alexander Watt Beveridge, M.B., Ch.B., F.R.C.S. (Edin.), to be Lieutenant, is posted to the 8th Field Ambulance, and is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 17th April, 1941.

CORPS OF N.Z. MILITARY POLICE.

William George Evans to be Lieutenant (temp.), and is posted to the 4th Provost Company. Dated 10th May, 1941.

N.Z. CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.

The Rev. James Hay, Chaplain, 4th Class, Retired List, to be Chaplain, 4th Class (Presbyterian), Area 9. Dated 19th May, 1941.

OFFICERS STRUCK OFF THE STRENGTH OF THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE.

The undermentioned officers are struck off the strength of the 2nd N.Z. Expeditionary Force:—
