Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Retirements of
Officers of the N.Z. Military Forces.

Wellington, 1st March, 1941.
His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
transfers, and retirements of officers in the N.Z. Military
Forces :β
STAFF.
Major A. B. Sievwright, N.Z. Army Legal Department,
is appointed Legal Staff Officer, Central Military District.
Dated 19th February, 1941.
Captain J. S. Hanna, N.Z. Army Legal Department,
relinquishes the appointment of Legal Staff Officer,
Central Military District. Dated 5th December, 1940.
Lieutenant T. Bassett, N.Z. Temporary Staff, relinquishes
the appointment of Adjutant, 1st Composite Company,
N.Z. Army Service Corps, and retains the appointment
of District Transport Officer, Northern Military District,
Auckland. Dated 1st October, 1940.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster (temp.) A. Brant, N.Z.
Permanent Staff, is appointed Adjutant, 1st Composite
Company, N.Z. Army Service Corps, in addition to his
present duties. Dated 1st October, 1940.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) R. H. Perrett, N.Z. Staff
Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Area Officer,
No. 8 Area, New Plymouth, is appointed Instructor,
2nd N.Z. Mounted Rifles Brigade, and retains the
temporary rank of Captain while so employed. Dated
19th January, 1941.
Lieutenant R. G. A. Farnell, N.Z. Army Ordnance Corps,
ceases to be posted to the Main Ordnance Depot,
Trentham, and is appointed Assistant Inspecting Ord-
nance Officer, Trentham. Dated 14th February, 1941.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Captain J. S. Hanna, N.Z. Army Legal Department, to
be Captain, and is attached to Headquarters, Central
Military District, Wellington. Dated 6th December,
1940.
Captain J. S. Hanna ceases to be attached to Headquarters,
Central Military District, and is appointed Deputy
Assistant Adjutant-General, Central Military District,
Wellington. Dated 20th December, 1940.
Lieutenant T. Bassett is granted the temporary rank of
Captain whilst holding the appointment of Transport
Officer, Northern Military District, Auckland. Dated
1st November, 1940.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) F. C. Cornwall, M.C., The North
Auckland Regiment, to be Captain, and is appointed
Company Commander, No. 2 Training Battalion,
Mobilization Camp, Papakura. Dated 1st February,
1941.
Lieutenant R. L. Forrest is granted the temporary rank
of Captain. Dated 1st February, 1941.
Lieutenant R. Dickinson is granted the temporary rank of
Captain. Dated 1st February, 1941.
Lieutenant W. F. Dudson is granted the temporary rank
of Captain. Dated 1st February, 1941.
Lieutenant (Acting Captain) E. King relinquishes the acting
rank of Captain and is granted the temporary rank of
Captain. Dated 1st February, 1941.
Lieutenant R. J. McDermott relinquishes the appointment
of Adjutant, 2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve,
Wellington. Dated 5th November, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant J. C. Boyd, Reserve of Officers, to be
Lieutenant, and is appointed Adjutant, 2nd Battalion,
National Military Reserve, Wellington. Dated 12th
February, 1941.
Captain G. Holderness performed the duties of Adjutant,
2nd Battalion, National Military Reserve, in addition
to his present duties, from 5th November, 1940, to
11th February, 1941.
Henry Richard Holloway, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant,
N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer,
Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 10th February,
1941.
Bevan Sydney Wilkie, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z.
Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobiliza-
tion Camp, Trentham. Dated 11th February, 1941.
James William Wylie, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z.
Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobiliza-
tion Camp, Trentham. Dated 14th February, 1941.
Lieutenant A. A. McConnell, M.C., National Military
Reserve, to be Lieutenant, and is appointed Company
Commander, 2nd Infantry Battalion, Mobilization Camp,
Papakura. Dated 1st February, 1941.
THE AUCKLAND (East Coast) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant O. P. Coleman is granted the temporary rank
of Captain. Dated 5th January, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) P. B. Mulhern relin-
quishes the temporary rank of Lieutenant and is granted
the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 6th January,
1941.
Lieutenant C. N. White, D.C.M., is granted the temporary
rank of Captain. Dated 14th January, 1941.
THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant H. R. Cameron is granted the temporary rank
of Captain. Dated 29th January, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) G. S. Wilson is granted the
temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 29th January,
1941.
N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant P. M. Barclay, 9th Heavy Battery, 9th Heavy
Regiment, is granted the temporary rank of Captain.
Dated 13th December, 1940.
Lieutenant T. P. L. Reaney, from the Hawke's Bay Regi-
ment, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st July,
1935, and is posted to the 4th Battery, 2nd Field
Regiment. Dated 22nd November, 1940.
N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.
Lieutenant C. R. G. Bassett, V.C., from the National
Military Reserve, to be Lieutenant, and is posted to the
1st Signals Company. Dated 3rd January, 1941.
Lieutenant C. R. G. Bassett, V.C., 1st Signals Company,
is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 10th
January, 1941.
Eric Allison Muir Buckman to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.),
and is posted to the 2nd Signals Company. Dated
11th February, 1941.
James Phillips Garner to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), and
is posted to the 4th Signals Company, Wellington De-
tachment. Dated 11th February, 1941.
THE AUCKLAND REGIMENT (Countess of Ranfurly's Own).
Captain J. W. Solomon, 2nd Battalion, is granted the
temporary rank of Major. Dated 11th November, 1940.
THE NORTH AUCKLAND REGIMENT.
Lieutenant (temp.) W. J. Reid, D.C.M., 1st Battalion, is
granted the temporary rank of Captain. Dated 1st
February, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) A. L. Mackey, 1st Battalion, is
granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated
1st February, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) H. J. W. Hewin, 1st Battalion, is
granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated 2nd
February, 1941.
2nd Lieutenant (temp.) L. W. Reid is granted the temporary
rank of Lieutenant. Dated 3rd February, 1941.
THE WELLINGTON REGIMENT (City of Wellington's Own).
Ralph Kingsley Skjellerup to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.),
and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 7th February,
1941.
THE HAWKE'S BAY REGIMENT.
Lieutenant T. P. L. Reaney ceases to be attached to and
is transferred to the N.Z. Artillery. Dated 22nd
November, 1940.
The Hon. William Edward Barnard to be 2nd Lieutenant
(temp.), and is posted to the 2nd Battalion. Dated 6th
February, 1941.
THE TARANAKI REGIMENT.
Lieutenant H. C. Johnson, 2nd Cadet Battalion, is
transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b), Area
8. Dated 18th February, 1941.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (temp.) R. N. Stevenson
2nd Cadet Battalion, lapses. Dated 21st February,
1941.
THE CANTERBURY REGIMENT.
Captain C. A. Noble, 5th Cadet Battalion, is transferred
to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 10. Dated
14th February, 1941.
THE NELSON, MARLBOROUGH, AND WEST COAST REGIMENT.
2nd Lieutenant L. B. Galbraith, 1st Battalion, is transferred
to the Reserve of Officers, Class II (b), Area 9. Dated
