Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, as to the Statutory Closing-day in the Combined District of Taumarunui and Manunui.

WHEREAS the local authorities of the combined district of Taumarunui and Manunui, as constituted for the purposes of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and comprising the Borough of Taumarunui and the Town District of Manunui, have failed to decide what working-day in the week shall be the statutory closing-day for shops in such district :

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 18 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint Wednesday to be the statutory closing-day for shops in the said combined district of Taumarunui and Manunui.

Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Whakatane) Order 1941.

PURSUANT to the Oil Fuel Retail Hours Emergency Regulations (No. 2) 1940, and pursuant to a requisition in writing received in that behalf, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct as follows :—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Whakatane) Order 1941.

  2. This Order shall apply to all establishments engaged in the sale by retail of oil fuel and situate within nine miles of the post-office in the Borough of Whakatane, but not including the establishment situated at Thornton.

  3. This Order shall come into force on the 3rd day of March, 1941.

  4. On and after the coming into force of this Order all such establishments, except as hereinafter provided, shall be closed for the sale of oil fuel for the whole of every Sunday, and shall on every Friday be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on every Friday, and shall on every other day of the week be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 6 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective days provided that the establishments situated at Taneatua, Awakeri, and Poroporo shall on Sundays be opened at 9 a.m. and closed at noon (with the exception of the establishment of W. H. Semmens, which shall not be opened on Sundays), and on Wednesdays shall be closed at noon, on Saturdays shall be closed at 9 p.m., and on Fridays shall be closed at 6 p.m.

  5. This Order shall not apply to (i) days observed in the area as public holidays, (ii) the period from 21st December in each year to 5th January in the following year (inclusive), or (iii) the period from Thursday to Monday (inclusive) at Easter in each year.

  6. In every successive week commencing upon the coming into force of this Order one of the establishments hereinafter named shall, in the weekly rotation hereinafter set out, be opened on Sunday from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m., and shall on every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 7.30 a.m. till 8 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective days.

Order of Rotation.
First week .. Armstrong and Co., Ltd., Whakatane.
Second week .. Campbell and McIsaac, Whakatane.
Third week .. R. W. Schofield, Whakatane.
Fourth week .. S. K. Schofield, Whakatane.
Fifth week .. Brabant Bros., Ltd., Whakatane.

  1. In alternate weeks, as hereinafter set out, commencing upon the coming into force of this Order, the establishments hereinafter named shall be opened and closed in the same manner as that set out in paragraph 6 of this Order.

Order of Rotation.
First week .. E. Mahy, Ohope Beach.
Second week .. A. Donaldson, Ohope Beach.

  1. Nothing in this Order shall apply to the establishment of Meads’ Ltd. at Taneatua in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the New Zealand Government Railways Road Services, or to Brabant Bros., Ltd., Whakatane, in respect of the supply of oil fuel to the New Zealand Government.

  2. Nothing in this Order shall affect the supplying to any person on the written authority of an officer of Police of oil fuel that may be urgently required at any time while all of the above-mentioned establishments are closed in pursuance of this Order.

Authorizing the Laying-off of Roads of less Width than 66 ft.

WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of Shirley Extension No. 20, affecting Lots 1 and 2 on D.P. 5119, being portion of Rural Sections 880 and 880x, Block XI, Christchurch Survey District, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that the proposed road shown thereon should be of the width of 66 ft. :

Now, therefore, I, Frank Langstone, Minister of Lands, do hereby, in pursuance of the power conferred upon me by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of every other power me thereunto enabling, authorize the laying-off of the proposed road of a width of not less than 50 ft. : Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.

Levin Abattoir District extended.—(Notice No. Ag. 3812.)

Office of the Minister of Agriculture,
12th February, 1941.

IT is hereby notified for public information, in accordance with the provisions of subsection (7) of section 15 of the Meat Act, 1939, that,—

(1) By deed of agreement dated the 4th day of December, 1940, made between the respective corporations of the Boroughs of Levin, Foxton, Shannon, and the County of Horowhenua, the abattoir established for the Borough of Levin has been made available for the respective districts controlled by the councils of the said boroughs and for part of the district controlled by the council of the said county as hereinafter described.

(2) The Levin Abattoir District, as affected by the said agreement, shall comprise all that area described in the schedule hereto, and—

(3) The Council of the Borough of Levin shall be the controlling authority of the abattoir for the purposes of the said abattoir district described in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF THE LEVIN ABATTOIR DISTRICT.

ALL that area for the time being comprised in the Borough of Levin, the Borough of Foxton, and the Borough of Shannon, and all that area situate in the County of Horowhenua known as the Wirokino Riding; and also all that area situate in the said county being that part of the Tokomaru Riding bounded generally on the north-west by the Manawatu River from the north-eastern corner of the Wirokino Riding to the point where the Shannon–Foxton highway crosses the said river; thence in a south-easterly direction along the Shannon–Foxton highway to the point where the said highway enters the Borough of Shannon; thence by the Borough of Shannon to the Shannon–Mangahao highway; thence in a south-easterly direction along that highway to the Tokomaru Stream; thence in a southerly direction along that stream to the eastern boundary of Section 10, Block XVI, Mount Robinson Survey District; thence in a southerly direction along that boundary to the Mangahao River; thence in a southerly direction along that river to the southern boundary of the Tokomaru Riding; thence generally in a north-westerly direction along the southern boundary of that riding to the Manawatu River.
