Applicants are required to produce documentary evidence
of their farming experience and financial position. The
ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination
of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to
pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising
the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, license-fee, and
amount of weighting for improvements.
SCHEDULE.
SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SOUTHLAND COUNTY.
Education Endowment.
SECTION 1, Block VI, and part Run 254B, Blocks V, VI,
XV, and XX, Wendon Survey District: Area, 7,336 acres.
Annual rent, £180.
Weighted with £2,100 (payable in cash) for improvements
comprising old dwelling, sheds, fencing, roading, &c.
This run is situated about five miles from Waikaka Township. Altitude is from 700 ft. to 2,390 ft., and aspect is
variable with a considerable proportion of warm faces.
Manuka and boxwood are in evidence on portions of the
run. The hill country is flanked by two open valleys on
east and west which contain fully 800 acres of level to
undulating land carrying good natural grazing, and of which
500 acres are capable of cultivation. Foxglove and sweetbrier have spread on low portions of the run. The property
generally is well clad with silver tussock and native grasses.
ABSTRACT OF CONDITIONS.
- Date of possession: 1st April, 1941.
- Term of License: Twenty-one years from 1st March
following date of selection, with contingent right of renewal
over the whole run or, if it is subdivided, over one subdivision. - One half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, license-fee
(£1 1s.), amount of weighting for improvements, and statutory declaration to be lodged by the successful applicant
immediately his application is declared successful. Rent
commences from date of possession. - Applicants must be not less than twenty-one years of age.
- Personal residence to commence within one year and
to be continuous thereafter. - No person may hold more than one pastoral run except
on the recommendation of the Land Board and with the
approval of the Minister of Lands. If a husband holds a
run his wife is deemed to be a runholder and vice versa. - Rent is payable half-yearly in advance on 1st March
and 1st September in each year. If not paid within thirty
days of due date a penalty of 10 per cent. is added. - Licensee to prevent destruction or burning of timber,
burning of snow tussock, burning of other tussock, except
in July, August, and September; to prevent growth and
spread of gorse, broom, sweetbrier, or other noxious weeds
or plants; to keep down rabbits; and to refrain from burning
grass during such months as the Commissioner of Crown
Lands shall from time to time determine. - With permission of the Land Board and the Minister
the licensee may—
(a) Cultivate a portion of the run and grow winter feed
thereon.
(b) Plough and sow in grass any area not exceeding
3,000 acres.
(c) Clear of brush or scrub any portion of the run, and sow
same in grass.
(d) Surface sow in grass any portion of the run. - License is liable to forfeiture if conditions are violated.
