Alterations to the Scale of Charges upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1926, and its amendments, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, Robert Semple, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges and to the Goods-Local Rates Scale of Charges made on the 13th day of April, 1939, and published in the Supplement dated the 19th day of April, 1939, to the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th day of April, 1939, in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic.

GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES.
PASSENGERS.
4. Sleeping-berths.
Paragraph 5 By omitting the words “and New Plymouth – Taumarunui.”
LUGGAGE, PARCELS, ETC.
55. Parcels Rates.
Paragraph 8 : By omitting the words “Parcels not taken delivery of within four working-hours after being available for delivery will be held by the Department as warehousemen.”
67. Local Rates and Regulations.
THROUGH BOOKING TO PORTS ON THE KAIPARA.
By omitting paragraph 1 and substituting the following :—

  1. Parcels, &c., booked through between stations on the North Island Main Line and Branches and ports on the Kaipara will be charged at the following rates for conveyance by steamer, in addition to the railway rates and charges to or from Helensville as specified in the Scale of Charges :—
    From or to Dargaville, Mangawhare, Turiwhiri, Aratapu, Mititai, Arapohue, Bradley’s Landing, Horehore, Te Kopuru, Tatarariki, Tokatoka, Tikinui, Ruawai, Tangaihi, Pouto, Beacon Point, South Head, Hohanga, Tangowahine, Kirikopuni, and Ports north of Dargaville.
Charge for parcels up to 28 lb. each s. d.
Parcels over 28 lb. and up to 1½ cwt. 1 4
Parcels exceeding 1½ cwt., goods rates (as set out in Goods-Local Rates Scale of Charges) 2 9
Dogs, each 2 9
Perambulators, each 4 3
Bicycles, each 3 0
Motor-bicycles, each 9 0
Motor-bicycles and side-car, each 11 6

GOODS, LIVE-STOCK, PARCELS, AND LUGGAGE.
68. Classification of Goods, Live-stock, &c.
By adding the following :—

Paragraph 3 : By omitting the words “quantities of less than 1 ton will be charged pro rata of the tonnage rates, subject to a minimum charge as for 1 cwt.” and substituting the following :—
“Quantities of less than 1 ton will be charged pro rata of the tonnage rates, subject to a minimum charge as for 56 lb. In no case shall the charge be less than 7d. for distances up to and including 25 miles and 10d. for distances exceeding 25 miles.”
Paragraph 5 : By omitting the words “quantities of less than 1 ton will be charged pro rata of the tonnage rates, subject to a minimum charge as for 1 cwt.,” and substituting the following :—
“Quantities of less than 1 ton will be charged pro rata of the tonnage rates, subject to a minimum charge as for 56 lb. In no case shall the charge be less than 3d. for distances up to and including 25 miles and 5d. for distances exceeding 25 miles.”
102. Storage.
By adding to paragraph 1 before the word “Consignees” in first line the words “For the purpose of computing storage charges.”
