The Timber Industry Labour Legislation Modification Order 1941.

WHEREAS it appears to me to be necessary for securing the public safety, the defence of New Zealand, the efficient prosecution of any war in which His Majesty may be engaged, and for maintaining supplies and services essential to the life of the community, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, pursuant to the Labour Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, do hereby order as follows :—

  1. This Order may be cited as the Timber Industry Labour Legislation Modification Order 1941.
  2. This Order applies to workers in the timber industry and to the employers of such workers.
  3. The provisions of the New Zealand (except Canterbury) Timber Workers’ Award, dated the 17th day of June, 1940, and recorded in Book of Awards, Volume XL, page 833, and of the Canterbury Timber Workers’ Award, dated the 30th day of September, 1940, and recorded in Book of Awards, Volume XL, page 1569, shall be and are hereby modified to the following extent, viz. :—
    (1) That in all logging operations and bush sawmills it shall be permissible to make up on a Saturday time lost in any of the preceding three weeks in lieu of the preceding five days prescribed by clause 2 (b) (ii) of each of the said awards ;
    (2) That on the production side of the industry only, in lieu of the requirement in clause 3 (a) of each of the said awards that in respect of overtime worked on Saturday such overtime shall be paid for at the rate of time and a half for the first four hours and double time thereafter, such overtime shall be paid for at the rate of time and a half for the first eight hours and double time thereafter.
  4. This Order shall come into effect on the day of the date hereof.
  5. The Timber Industry Labour Legislation Suspension Order 1940 is hereby revoked.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments, prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Mount Eden of certain Goods comprised in the Trade of a Florist.

WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the florists’ shops within the Borough of Mount Eden, has been forwarded to me desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a florist, namely—flowers (whether fresh-cut or made up), artificial flowers, pot-plants, and raffia—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trade within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I do hereby direct that on and after the 5th day of January, 1942, the sale of the said goods within the said borough shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, after the hour of 6 p.m., on Fridays after the hour of 9.30 p.m., and on Saturdays after the hour of 5 p.m., with the following exception : On the working-day immediately preceding any day generally observed as a whole holiday, the sale of the said goods is prohibited after the hour of 9.30 p.m.

Timber Control Notice No. 33.

NOTICE is hereby given that in pursuance of the Supply Control Emergency Regulations 1939, and the Timber Emergency Regulations 1939, I, Alexander Robert Entrican, Timber Controller, hereby require and direct as follows :—

  1. This notice may be cited as the Timber Control Notice No. 33.
  2. This notice shall come into force on the day following its publication in the Gazette.
  3. No proprietor shall, without my precedent consent, use or cause to be used any binding wire for tying into bundles manufactured parts of butter-boxes, cheese-crates, or any other wooden containers except when transportation to the place of assembly includes carriage by ship.
