Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

Wellington, 18th December, 1940.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman, Glen Eden Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

GLEN EDEN TOWN BOARD.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Town District of Glen Eden taken on the 5th day of December, 1940, on the proposal of the Glen Eden Town Board to borrow the sum of one thousand two hundred and thirty pounds for the following purposes:—

(a) The reconstruction of Valley Road Bridge and approaches.

(b) The reconstruction of Valley Road Culvert and approaches.

Votes.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. .. .. .. .. 113

The number of votes recorded against the proposal was .. .. .. .. 40

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

The reconstruction and sealing of carriage-way in Valley Road.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 56

I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

Modifying Exemptions under the Import Control Regulations, 1938.

Office of the Minister of Customs,

Wellington, 8th January, 1941.

PURSUANT to clause 15 of the Import Control Regulations 1938, the Minister of Customs doth hereby withdraw the exemption contained in the notice under the said clause 15 dated the 7th day of December, 1938, and published in the Gazette on the 8th day of December, 1938, so far only as it relates to goods described as follows, namely —“ Goods not exceeding £10 in value (New Zealand currency) in respect of any one importation imported per post by persons for their own use and not for the purposes of sale or business ” and in lieu thereof doth hereby exempt from the requirement of a license under the said regulations the following goods, namely :—

Goods which—

(1) Do not exceed in value in respect of any one importation the sum of ten pounds (New Zealand currency) ; and

(2) Are imported in a postal packet ; and

(3) Are imported by a person for his own domestic use and not for the purposes of sale or business, and not for use in the trade, calling, or profession of the importer ; and

(4) Are not imported in connection with a contract of sale and purchase wherever effected which has been negotiated or solicited by any person in New Zealand on behalf of the vendor ; and

(5) Are not imported by the same inward mail as any other goods despatched from the same country of origin by the same exporter.

Provided that goods imported by the same inward mail as any other goods despatched from the same country of origin by the same exporter shall be allowed the benefit of this exemption if the importer satisfies the Collector of Customs by such evidence as the Collector deems sufficient that the goods comply with all other conditions of this exemption.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased, in terms of section 8 of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1927, to direct the removal of the name of

John Leopold Stewart Wright

from the Commission of the Peace ; and it is hereby notified that such name has been removed accordingly, and that such removal will take effect on and from this 7th day of January, 1941.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block IV, Whangaparaoa Survey District, for Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road—and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken : And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Raukokore and is there open for inspection ; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

Exemption Order under the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940.

PURSUANT to the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, the Minister of Transport doth hereby order and declare that the provisions of clause (1) of Regulation 7 of the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, so far as they relate to drivers of heavy trade-motors shall not apply to Alexander James Brown, of Waianiwa.

Dated this 24th day of December, 1940.

Exemption Order under the Transport Licensing Emergency Regulations 1940.

PURSUANT to the Transport Legislation Emergency Regulations 1940, the Minister of Transport doth hereby order and declare that the provisions of clause (1) of Regulation 7 of the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, so far as they relate to drivers of heavy trade motors shall not apply to Margaret Jean Cowden, of Stokes Valley.
