And whereas it is expedient that the boundaries of the
said Counties should be altered in such manner as is deemed
to be in accordance with the said report, that the area to
be added to the Kaikoura County should form a new Riding
to be known as the East Coast Riding of that County, that
the number of Councillors for the said East Coast Riding
should be fixed, and that the remaining portion of the East
Coast Riding of the Awatere County not included in the
Kaikoura County should form part of the Flaxbourne Riding
of the Awatere County :

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power
and authority conferred on me by the said Act, I, George
Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway, the Governor-General of
the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the area described in the First Schedule hereto,
being now part of the Awatere County, shall be added to
and form part of the Kaikoura County ; that the boundaries
of the Kaikoura and Awatere Counties as so altered shall
be those set forth under the respective headings in the
Second Schedule hereto ; that the area added as aforesaid
to the Kaikoura County shall form a new Riding to be known
as the East Coast Riding of the said County ; that the
boundaries of that Riding shall be those set forth in the
Third Schedule hereto ; that one Councillor shall be elected
for the said East Coast Riding ; and that the area described
in the Fourth Schedule hereto being the remaining portion
of the East Coast Riding of the Awatere County aforesaid
shall form part of the Flaxbourne Riding of that County :

And I do also proclaim and declare that this Proclamation
shall take effect as on and from the first day of October, one
thousand nine hundred and forty.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

AREA TO BE EXCLUDED FROM AWATERE COUNTY AND
INCLUDED IN KAIKOURA COUNTY.

ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District commencing
on the sea-coast at a point due east of the southernmost
corner of Section 2, Block X, Whernside Survey District ;
thenoe due west to the Main South Highway ; thence
northerly by the said highway to the common boundary
between the Tirohanga and Ben More Estate freeholds as
delineated on D.P. 1003, Blenheim Land Registry, and by
the said boundary and the eastern boundary of S.G.R. 184
to the northern boundary of S.G.R. 184 ; thence generally
westerly and south-westerly by the northern boundaries of
Small Grazing Run 184, Section 1, Block IX, Small Grazing
Run 187, the eastern and northern boundaries of Section 10,
Block III, the northern boundaries of Sections 90, 9, and 1,
Block VII, and Section 1, Block VI, all of Whernside Survey
District, the north-eastern and north-western boundaries of
Section 1, Block VIII, Pastoral Run 121A, and Section 1,
Block VII, all of Tapuaenuku Survey District, and by the
north-western and western boundaries of Pastoral Run 121
to the Clarence River ; thence easterly by the middle of the
Clarence River to the sea ; and thence northerly by the
sea to the point of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

KAIKOURA COUNTY.

ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District commencing
on the sea-coast at a point due east of the southernmost
corner of Section 2, Block X, Whernside Survey District ;
thenoe southerly by the sea to the Conway River ; thence
westerly and northerly by the middle of that river to its
source ; thence by a right line to Mount Ross ; and thence
by a line due west to the Clarence River ; thence north-
easterly by the middle of that river to the western boundary
of Pastoral Run No. 121 ; thence northerly by the eastern
boundary of the said run ; thence generally in an eastern
direction by the north boundaries of Pastoral Run No. 121,
Section 1, Block VII, Run 121A, and Section 1, Block VIII,
Tapuaenuku Survey District, Section 1, Block VI, and
Sections 1, 9, and 90, Block VII, the northern and eastern
boundaries of Section 10, Block III, the northern boundaries
of S.G.R 187, Section 1, Block IX, and S.G.R. 184, all of
Whernside Survey District ; thence southerly by the eastern
boundaries of S.G.R. 184 and the common boundary between
the Tirohanga and Ben More Estate freeholds as delineated
on D.P. 1003, Blenheim Land Registry, to the Main South
Highway, and by the said highway to a point due west of
the southernmost corner of Section 2, Block X, Whernside
Survey District ; and thence by a line due east to the sea-
coast, the point of commencement.

AWATERE COUNTY.

All that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded
on the north-west and north by the Marlborough County,
described in New Zealand Gazette No. 17, dated 10th March,
1932, on page 473, from the western boundary of the Marl-
borough Land District to the mouth of the Awatere River ;
thence by the sea to a point on the sea-coast due east of the
southernmost corner of Section 2, Block X, Whernside

Survey District ; thence by the boundaries of the Kaikoura
County hereinbefore described and the middle-line of the
Clarence River to the boundary-line between the Provincial
Districts of Marlborough and Nelson ; thence along that
boundary to the confluence of the Clarence and Acheron
Rivers ; thence up the middle of the Acheron River to the
Guide River ; and up the middle of the Guide River to the
Barefell Pass ; thence north-westerly along the boundary-
line between the Marlborough and Nelson Provincial Districts
to the southernmost point of Marlborough County, the point
of commencement.

THIRD SCHEDULE.

EAST COAST RIDING.—KAIKOURA COUNTY.

ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District commencing
on the sea-coast at a point due east of the southernmost
corner of Section 2, Block X, Whernside Survey District ;
thenoe due west to the Main South Highway ; thence
northerly by the said highway to the common boundary
between the Tirohanga and Ben More Estate freeholds as
delineated on D.P. 1003, Blenheim Land Registry, and by
the said boundary and the eastern boundary of S.G.R. 184
to the northern boundary of S.G.R. 184 ; thence generally

AREA ADDED TO FLAXBOURNE RIDING, AWATERE COUNTY.

ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded on
the east by the western boundary of Run No. 121, on the
south-east by the Clarence River, on the west by Elliott
Stream, and on the north generally by the Kaikoura Range.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued
under the Seal of that Dominion, this 16th day of
September, 1940.

Revoking the Setting-apart of Settlement Land, in the Southland
Land District, for Selection by Discharged Soldiers, under
Ordinary Tenures.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by section three of the Discharged
Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, I, George Vere Arundell,
Viscount Galway, Governor-General of the Dominion of New
Zealand, do hereby revoke (in so far as it relates to the land
described in the Schedule hereto) the Proclamation made on
the thirtieth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and
sixteen, and published in the Gazette of the second day of
November then instant, page 3420, setting apart settlement
lands for selection by discharged soldiers, on ordinary tenures,
under the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act,
1908.

SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.

SECTION 2s, Lamont Settlement, Block I, Mabel Hundred :
Area, 150 acres 1 rood 1 perch.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued
under the Seal of that Dominion, this 17th day of
September, 1940.
