Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the Purposes of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, Section 3.
IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, the Minister of Transport does hereby declare the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which the public have access therein, shall be subject to the maximum speed-limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.
SCHEDULE.
SITUATED within Waitotara County—
All that area of Fitzherbert Avenue, Fox Road, and Town Belt Road commencing at the junction of the northern boundary of Fitzherbert Avenue with the boundary of Wanganui City as now constituted; thence along the northern side of Fitzherbert Avenue to Town Belt Road; thence along the south-eastern side of Town Belt Road to the boundary of Wanganui City as now constituted; thence by a right line across Town Belt Road; thence along the north-western side of Town Belt Road to Fitzherbert Avenue; thence along the northern side of Fitzherbert Avenue to Fox Road; thence along the north-eastern boundary of Fox Road to a point 2 chains north-west of the north-western boundary of Oxford Road; thence by a right line across Fox Road; thence along the south-western boundary of Fox Road to Fitzherbert Avenue; thence by a right line across Fitzherbert Avenue; thence along the southern boundary of Fitzherbert Avenue to the south-western boundary of Carlton Avenue; thence across Fitzherbert Avenue to the commencement point; the whole area being indicated by the plan marked TT. 1645, deposited at the office of the Transport Department at Wellington, and thereon coloured yellow.

Special Order made by the Akaroa Borough Council altering the total number of Members of the Council.

THE following special order made by the Akaroa Borough Council is published in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933.

AKAROA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Moved by the Mayor.
Resolution altering the number of members of the Council.
In exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 148 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933, the Akaroa Borough Council resolves by way of special order as follows:—

Exclusive of the Mayor, the said Akaroa Borough Council shall consist of six members in lieu of nine members.

The alteration hereby made in the number of the members of the said Council shall take effect on and after the 1st day of May, 1941, and the Councillors to be elected in the month of May, 1941, shall be elected in accordance with the provisions of this special order.

We hereby certify that this is a true copy of the special order passed at a special meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council held on the 26th day of June, 1940.

Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Rotorua) Order 1940, No. 2.
PURSUANT to the Oil Fuel Retail Hours Emergency Regulations 1940, and pursuant to a requisition in writing received in that behalf, I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour, do hereby direct as follows:—

This Order may be cited as the Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Rotorua) Order 1940, No. 2.

This Order shall come into force on the 2nd day of September, 1940.

This Order shall apply to all establishments engaged in the sale by retail of oil fuel and situate within six miles of the Post-office in the Borough of Rotorua.

On and after the coming into force of this Order all such establishments except as hereinafter provided shall be closed for the sale of oil fuel for the whole of every Sunday and shall on every Friday be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 8 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on every Friday and on every other day of the week be opened for the sale of oil fuel from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective days.

This Order shall not apply to Labour Day, the birthday of the reigning Sovereign, the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labour Day, and, if the birthday of the reigning Sovereign be celebrated on a Monday, the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding that Monday and also shall not apply to the period between the 1st December in each year and the 30th April in the following year, inclusive.

In every successive week commencing upon the coming into force of this Order two of the establishments hereinafter named shall in the weekly rotation hereinafter set out be opened on Sunday from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. and on every other day of the week from 8 a.m. till 9 p.m. and closed at all other times on the said respective days.

First week .. Rotorua Rental Cars (Proprietor: A. J. Andrews). Cadman’s Parking Station, Limited.
Second week .. Jones Brothers Garage, Limited. Rotorua Tyre and Rubber Company (Proprietor: J. L. Witherow).
Third week .. Thermal Garage (Proprietor: R. C. Avery). Wells Arawa Service Station (Proprietor: J. S. Wells).
Fourth week .. Rotorua Motor Transport Co., Ltd. De Luxe Service Station (Proprietor: J. Geaney).
Fifth week .. Hall Nicholls, Limited. Duffy Service Station (Proprietor: H. F. Preston).
Sixth week .. J. C. Bates and Son, Limited. Geyser Service Station (Proprietor: J. B. Rassmussen).
- In alternate weeks as hereinafter set out commencing upon the coming into force of this Order the establishments hereinafter named shall on Sunday be opened from 8.30 a.m. till 9.30 a.m. and from 5.30 p.m. till 6.30 p.m. and be closed at all other times on Sunday.

Nothing in this Order shall affect the opening of the establishment of Mr. S. J. Blackmore at the Rotorua Aerodrome for the supply of oil fuel to aircraft.

Nothing in this Order shall affect the supply of oil fuel to any person at any time on the authority of an officer of Police.

The Oil Fuel Retail Hours (Rotorua) Order 1940, gazetted on 18th July, 1940, New Zealand Gazette No. 74, page 1725, is hereby revoked as from the date of the coming into force of this Order.

Making certain Land “Rateable Property.”
PURSUANT to the provisions of section 16 of the Urewera Lands Act, 1921–22, I, Frank Langstone, Native Minister, hereby give notice that all the land which was comprised in the Ruatoki No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 Blocks and which by virtue of certain provisions of the said section 16 has been deemed to be excepted from the term “rateable property” as defined by the Rating Act, 1925, shall cease to be so excepted.
