Appointments, Promotions, and Transfers of Officers of the
New Zealand Military Forces.

HIS Excellence the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
transfers, and resignations of officers of the New Zealand
Military Forces :—
COMMAND.
Lieutenant-Colonel W. W. Jefferd, The Hawke’s Bay
Regiment, is appointed to command the 1st Battalion,
vice Lieutenant-Colonel J. H. Irving, F.D., posted to
the N.Z. Temporary Staff. Dated 10th July, 1940.
N.Z. STAFF CORPS.
Lieutenant P. S. Gillingham, Reserve of Officers, N.Z. Staff
Corps, is transferred to the Active List, and is attached
to the Staff of the Director of Mobilization, Army Head-
quarters, Wellington, with the honorary rank of Captain.
Dated 10th June, 1940.
N.Z. REGULAR FORCE.
The undermentioned Captains (temporary Majors) to be
Majors :—
E. L. G. Bown, N.Z. Staff Corps. Dated 2nd December,
1939.
H. E. Erridge, N.Z. Army Ordnance Corps, dated 23rd
February, 1940, with seniority next above Major J. N.

N.Z. ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS.
The undermentioned to be Lieutenants and Quarter-

W.O. I (Armament Sergeant-Major) S. Thomson, and is
appointed Officer in Charge Workshops, Northern
Military District, Devonport.
W.O. I (Armourer Sergeant-Major) T. G. Chapman, and
retains the appointment of Chief Armourer, Trentham.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Allister Imlach McCowan to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental
Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization
Camp, Papakura. Dated 25th June, 1940.
Laurence Fergusson Taylor, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant,
N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer,
Mobilization Camp, Trentham. Dated 1st July, 1940.
Percy Bruce Ogilvie Davidson to be Lieutenant, N.Z.
Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobiliza-
tion Camp, Trentham. Dated 5th July, 1940.
James Michael McBrearty, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant,
N.Z. Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer,
Mobilization Camp, Burnham. Dated 6th July, 1940.
Mervyn John Wall to be Lieutenant, N.Z. Dental Corps,
and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobilization Camp,
Burnham. Dated 6th July, 1940.
Stanley Naylor Jolly, B.D.S., to be Lieutenant, N.Z.
Dental Corps, and is appointed Dental Officer, Mobiliza-
tion Camp, Papakura. Dated 8th July, 1940.
THE OTAGO MOUNTED RIFLES.
Major F. Waite, D.S.O., V.D., from the Reserve of Officers,
to be Lieutenant-Colonel, and is seconded for duty as
Commissioner, National Patriotic Fund Board. Dated
1st July, 1940.
THE MANAWATU MOUNTED RIFLES.
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (temporary).

THE NORTH AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant J. F. Hannah, Retired List, to be Lieutenant,
with seniority from 17th June, 1940. Dated 26th
June, 1940.
N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Major A. H. W. Evenden, Retired List, to be Major
(temporary), and is posted to the 9th Heavy Battery,
9th Heavy Regiment. Dated 25th June, 1940.
Captain C. A. Williamson, 10th Heavy Regiment, is granted
the temporary rank of Major. Dated 1st April, 1940.
Major H. N. Webster, from the Reserve of Officers, to be
Captain, and is posted to the 3rd Battery, 2nd Field
Regiment. Dated 1st June, 1940.
Captain H. G. Flux, from the Reserve of Officers, to be
Captain, with seniority from 15th June, 1939, and is
posted to the 8th Battery, 8th Medium Regiment.
Dated 4th July, 1940.
Lieutenant A. W. Easther, from the Reserve of Officers,
to be Captain (temporary) and is posted to the 3rd Battery,
2nd Field Regiment. Dated 1st June, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant C. S. Maguinness, 9th Heavy Regiment,
is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant. Dated
26th June, 1940.
THE NORTH AUCKLAND REGIMENT.
Lieutenant G. D. Moon, from the Reserve of Officers, to be
Lieutenant, with seniority from 22nd June, 1940,
and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 9th July,
1940.
2nd Lieutenant J. Subritzky, from the Reserve of Officers,
to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st November,
1939, and is posted to the 1st Battalion. Dated 2nd
July, 1940.
2nd Lieutenant J. L. D. Woolloxall, 2nd Cadet Battalion,
resigns his commission. Dated 2nd January, 1940.
Henry John Waitangi Howin to be 2nd Lieutenant (tempo-
rary) and is posted to the 1st Battalion, with seniority
next below 2nd Lieutenant (temporary) M. C. Astley.
Dated 16th December, 1939.
William Henry Yorke, M.C. (late N.Z. Rifto Brigade
(Territorial Force)) to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority
from 19th June, 1940, and is posted to the 1st Battalion.

Lieutenant R. R. V. Challiner, from the Reserve of Officers,
